The Darkmoon Faire Field Guide

It’s your passport to riches, my friend. Y’see, we need a few things -- just some junk, nothing valuable to a big hero like you. We call ‘em Darkmoon Artifacts, and there’s all different kinds to be found all over Azeroth. The Darkmoon Field Guide helps you discover artifacts while you’re explorin’ dungeons, slayin’ monsters, and fightin’ in Battlegrounds. Without a guide, you’d never notice ‘em, and it’ll help keep you focused on the stuff we want. Whether you just reached level 10, or you’ve crushed the biggest baddies in the land, we need somethin’ from nearly everybody. There's not much info on how the PvP items come about.

I received a Captured Insignia while looting a body in Isle of Conquest. So far, I've not received anything for capturing bases, flags, towers etc or for winning a battleground.

So, all I can say is make sure you loot those bodies!

Edit - Please don't down rate relevant info which was posted within hours of Darkmoon going live. Just because it may be obvious now, it wasn't then when people were looking for information. Cheers!

Just confirming getting the Banner of the Fallen from looting/removing insignias off players while doing SOTA tonight, and also getting Grisly Trophies from them - counting towards the Test Your Strength quest items needed. All while the Darkmoon Adventurer's Guide was in my bag, ofc. There's some more info on the page for the Darkmoon Defender achievement.

Please keep in mind that the quest is not repeatable during one DMF festival. After you complete the quest you cannot get it for the second time, as it states when you use an item for the second time "You have already completed this quest". In other words - you can do the quest once every month.
Now, to all the naysayers, Blizzard has confirmed that these quests are to be repeated each month. Source
They have also stated that the quest drops that happen in the dungeons/raids/BG’s happen all the time, even if the faire isn’t in town. Source

I'd recommend going to Isle of Conquest to farm for this. It's a 40-man, so there are a lot of people dying, and it has a lot more actual PvP than Alterac Valley. Most active combat is near the keeps, and the enemy keep is often your best bet. A few stragglers will periodically rez, only to be torn up by your own forces, leaving behind their corpses, fresh for looting. Be sure you're the first to snag their insignia; this isn't group loot.

What is this? This item Banner of the Fallen starts the quest that you can turn in with the Darkmoon Faire whenever it is in town.

How do I get it? In order to be eligible to loot this, you must have the Darkmoon Adventurer's Guide in your ~~bags~~ inventory - which can be obtained in one of two ways:

Receive it as a reward from Gelvas Grimegate after completing The Darkmoon Faire for Alliance or The Darkmoon Faire for Horde.
Receive it from Selina Dourman just by talking to her, she stands at the first tent on the left-side of the entrance to the Darkmoon Faire.
Note: if you have The Darkmoon Faire quest in your quest log, Selina will not offer to give you the guide - you will either need to drop the quest and speak to her again or simply hand in at which point you get the guide anyway.

Where do I get it?

This particular item can be looted by removing insignias from fallen enemies in battlegrounds.

Why do I want it? There are several reasons that you may want this item:

Receive 5 Darkmoon Prize Tickets upon handing it in - these tickets allow you to purchase mounts, pets and other collectibles whenever the Darkmoon Faire is on.
Receive 250 reputation (or more depending on your racial/guild bonuses etc) with the Darkmoon Faire - great for anyone who is either a rep junkie or is working towards The Insane title awarded by the Insane in the Membrane achievement.
Having completed the quest that this item starts will count towards the achievements Darkmoon Defender and Darkmoon Despoiler.
Gold gold GOLD - since this item isn't BoP (bind on pickup), it is tradable and sellable via the auction house. If you don't care about the above three points, then you can profiteer from someone who does!

What else do I need to know?

The quest can only be turned in once per Darkmoon Faire. You can certainly collect more of these, however if you've turned in for the current faire, you'll have to wait till it's next in town.
This item can be looted anytime - that is to say, the Darkmoon Faire does not have to be currently on in order for you to be able to find these puppies.

Just a hint here guys.

The item is BoP so you can sell it on.... If you got alot of it from PvP on your low lvl alt you can go sell it on AH for a few golds ( 200 - 600 ), but it depends on server. On sylvanas it goes for 450g each. Its a quite fast way to grind golds on a low lvl char :-)..... Hope it helped

For those of us who don't like/won't queue for BGs, is there any chance these could drop from doing some of the world pvp? Halaa, Blue Sky Logging Grounds, etc...

Its pretty stupid that you cannot hand these items like you can hand example rogue decks example. I have got 4 Banner of fallen, 2xCaptured insignia and adventurer's journal allready since the first new darkmoonfaire. And they are stealing my bank space... So these should be repeatable

It is February 4, the day before third round of DMF starts and I can pick up the repeatable quests already. It seems Blizzard fixed this. Yay.

It is January 1st and the second round of DMF is here. I am unable to start the quest for Banner of the Fallen, Adventurers Journal or Captured Insignia. I appears that they can be used only once as of today. I could however turn in the other 5 that drop from dungeons and raids.

These Darkmoon Faire artifacts cannot be turned in more than once, even in different months. You get the message "You have completed that quest" if you try to accept the quest from the item again. This does place a smaller limit in the total number of tickets one can earn every time the Faire comes to town.
