Got this today for my warrior. Did some testing; seems to have a low proc rate with no internal cooldown. It'd go 20 or 30 seconds without procing at all, and then refresh itself sometimes.

if you're already def capped, wich I really hope since you have tanked a mother dragon >.<, this would be of much use?

Because 100 Defense will boost your avoidance stats, as well as the proc giving an extra 1.4k armor.

Also with current buff of Devastate and Warrior Tier-9 Tanking 2-Piece Set Bonus slow weapon is very usefull and buff tanking dps and tps.

Just got this blade and I did a little testing on the proc, have to say I am loving it.

Just spammed devastate on dummy and I would have to say the up time on the proc is at least 50%. It can proc while having the buff so means there is no internal cooldown. In the limited testing I did I got several chain procs, 3-4-5 procs in a row sustaining the buff.

Edit: Chanted mongoose, Does not show.

Everyone seems to be moaning about their enchant glows not showing up. This weapon already has a glow, so it will not show any other glow. Also, don't downrate this, because this is true and helpful.

Comparing Gleaming Quel'Serrar with Peacekeeper Blade from a Warrior perspective:

Gleaming Quel'Serrar:

+15.8 more DPS
+0.5 second longer swing (For devastate hits)
+Proc gives ~20 defense rating = 0,8% chance to parry and dodge (before DR), 0,8% chance to be missed (<2,4% mitigation in total) and 0,8% chance to block, totalling in about ~2% mitigation over an entire fight.

-No damage stats, not even strength
-No consistent avoidance stats

Peacekeeper Blade

+4 stamina (Neglible)
+31 strength (Increased by talents)
+<0,74% dodge
+<0,47 parry
+2.56 expertise (0,64% less chance to have your attacks blocked or parried, 1,28% totalled)
+1 socket for 30 stamina 20 def + 6 expertise rating or 15 stamina and 10 def + 6 expertise rating

For clarity, 20 defense = ~5 defense skill = <0,2% parry and dodge, 0,2% less chance to be hit and 0,2% chance to block.

The strength and expertise (Expertise is the best threat stat for protection warriors) out-performs Quel'Serrar's higher DPS/Max damage. It provides <1,21% mitigation on its own and <1,81% mitigation with a 20 def rating gem.

Don't think I actually like toting that stupid Peacekeeper Blade around, but it's probably BiS if you're restricted to non-HC 10-mans and maybe even past that.

base stats of peacekeeper blade are better, but when quel'Serrar procs its better. Trust on the procs & have a badass looking tanking weapon, or be a boring nerd & stay safe with peacekeeper blade?

Definitely notice an increase in Devastate damage and Devastate crits from the new Quel. Not entirely sure if this produces an increase in threat, though, since a faster weapon speed produces more Heroic Strikes and Cleaves in a shorter period, and crits on those abilities give damage bonuses.

However, the higher Devastate damage might also make it a good choice for prot pvp. (warrior prot, that is)

Might be minor, but keep in mind the proc from the sword also grants you 39 Attack Power through Armored to the Teeth.

Did a little testing. Assuming the proc rate is 50% (which is the lowest I've seen people report), the difference between this and the TotC 10 sword is this.

Gleaming Quel'Serrar

+Looks cooler

Crusader's Glory

+19 dodge rating
+52 strength

^This is basically worst case scenario, which is what most tanks should be thinking of when comparing items. The proc rate for me as a paladin tank is more like 60%, and I've seen some people claim they've gotten higher on boss fights. I'm sticking with Quel'Serrar right now just because I don't wanna drop 50g on another Titanium Weapon Chain (I'm cheap).

In my opinion, use Crusader's Glory if you want more threat from the STR. Use Quel'Serrar if you want a bit more defensive power. On my own character it added almost 1% more average avoidance+block, plus extra armor over CG. So it just depends what your preference is.

Ok, so last night I picked up Gleaming Quel'Serrar and I figured that I'd see exactly how viable it is for tanking.

To do this I opted to run a heroic (Gundrak specifically, since it was the daily) I realize that this would have some effect on the proc rate due to the fact that you have slightly more down time as far as your hit rotation goes, but it would be a fair assessment as a basis.

During the 25 Minute run I received Sanctuary twenty times, this would seem to be a normalized proc rate, it did not have a hidden cool down, because there were several times that the log showed the proc overlapping and just refreshing itself, but it still averaged to roughly 1 PPM.

This being as it is, I would say that the Gleaming Quel'Serrar is definitely not a viable tanking weapon compared to other weapons of similar quality.

Threat should never be the way you lean as a tank when deciding gear upgrades. It should always be for determining what would give you the most effective health.

I wouldn't say Threat should never be something you should look at when considering an upgrade. While effective health is something you should put ahead of threat with the current context of the game(threat currently is a non-issue in most cases). threat is still something to consider. There has been a select few fights in current endgame that have made me consider gearing slightly towards threat. ToC10/25 and ToGC10 Twins comes directly to mind(I haven't touched ToGC25 yet) depending on how the group decides to have me tank it(in regards to essences) and the capability of the healers.

I raided to Onyxia since 3.2.2 every week both 10 and 25 versions and now it finally drops for me
testing it right now
atm I got such stats from my procodile:

Total procs: 103
PPM: 2.23
Uptime: 59.74%
Cooldown: 2s

In other words it has no ICD and got 60% uptime
with all my diminishing returns (i'm almost full 245ilvl prot pally) proc gives me:

0.37% miss
0.51% dodge
0.42% parry
0.99% phys damage decrease via armor

So is it good for DW DK Frost tanking?
The answer is as always for DK's, situational. For endgame, you really should be running 2H otherwise you gimp your threat/aggro.

If you need additional damage mitigation and a bump to your avoidance, this blade is great. Probably, it gets more advantage in the hands of a Warr or Pal tank though. If you have problems generating sufficient threat, this blade will probably make the situation worse. I'll explain...

Here's what you lose over a similar def tanking blade (such as Peacekeeper or Rimefang's Claw - I'll ignore Falric's Wristchopper because the block vallue is unquestionably better itemized for a sword and board tank).

for DK DW ice, what this sword offers as benefits - nice upper damage for more threat gen on Rune Strike. Excellent proc value on armor. Excellent proc valule on miss (your not gonna see much benefit from the Parry or Dodge due to diminishing returns on the Def proc, your Parry and Dodge should already be quite high. But miss is nice - (although as a DK you'd rather have Dodge or Parry results on mob hit, to proc Rune Strike). Also it has a very nice stam stat, although Peacekeeper will be overall higher depending on how it is gemmed. (2x +30stam is common).

for DK DW ice, what this sword lacks - In a nutshell, a Strength stat. As a DK in frost, your main threat generators are Rune Strike, Howling Blast (and to a lesser extent, DnD). Howling Blast actually suffers from the lack of Strength since its damage (and threat) is based on AP, which is based on Strength (primarily). This means loss of AOE threat, which is the real advantage of Ice tanking over Blood. <- assuming you don't like cycling Heart Strikes on every mob in a group. So much faster to cast Hungering Cold (for the frost fever), then HB.

While all the above considerations I regard as still valid. The truth is as mentioned below. Overall DPS weapons are better with regards to aggro/threat. DK tanks get more-or-less equivalent defensive value from their Runeforging. After factoring in Diminishing returns, the additional avoidance doesn't offset the lack of threat.

As a DK, you're probably the OT anyways; so if a Warr or Pally needs it more, be generous and pass. The overall raid will benefit more.

Note: what I mentioned about strength for DK would also apply to a Tankadin.
