If you accidentally (or on purpose for that matter) delete your Blackened Urn you can pick it up again from Archmage Alturus by using dialog option that opens up if you don't have Blackened Urn in your inventory or your bank.

This is useful because not only does it open up one free slot in your inventory when you don't need to use it, it also allows you to get it in front of Karazhan every time you are actually going to use it and not rely on remembering to bring it to raid from your bank every time.

You do not lose the urn after the quest it is provided for.

You will need to bring the urn to Karazhan and use it to summon the dragon on any subsequent visits to the dungeon if you want to down Nightbane during that visit.

Only one person needs to bring it per raid.

It might go without saying, but Nightbane can only be summoned and killed once per visit. You cannot re-summon him and kill over and over on the same run.

This is now a grey item, with no more Use effect. It now has flavor text that reads the following: "Though the urn now appears to be empty, it might still be worth something to a vendor." It vendors for 2g.

Although this item is now gray, you can still Summon Nightbane.
An Urn is provided on the ground in the Master's Terrace which has the same of effect of previously owning the Blackened Urn.

edit) on a side note. After downing Nightbane in slightly over 1 minute, the doors to the Master's Terrace did not open and we had to get summoned out. bug maybe?

A group of us were clearing Kara for the achievement we could not summon nightbane from the urn on the roof. I'm not sure but I believe no one in the raid had an urn with them.

I believe, in order to "activate" the urn on the ground to summon Nightbane, someone in the raid has to have fully completed the quest chain that leads to the summoning of Nightbane. If nobody has completed this quest chain to do so, then the raid cannot perform a summons. The urn itself is no longer needed, but the quest chain completion still is.

I have completed the quest chain and had the urn in my bank until the patch that deprecated it, at which point I vendored it. I was in Kara just now helping a few new people get the achievement and I was not able to use the urn on the ground, yet another player in the raid was. She still possessed her urn but did not have it with her.

Just wanted to add that on subsequent visits I have been able to interact with and use the urn on the ground to summon Nightbane. It appears to have been a one-time bug.

Do you have your terrain detail up? I think it's like the skull used to be, you have to be close, and have detail all the way up to see it

The Blackened Urn is now on a floor on the terrace where you summon Nightbane. The item is no longer needed for summoning.

There's currently a bug with the Blackened Urn on the Terrace in Karazhan, where it won't allow anyone to interfer with it. I talked to a Gamemaster earlier about it, and was told that if you simply do a "soft reset"(which means allow for the instance to reset normally while nobody is inside of it), the urns should be usable.

My group disbanded after this, so I'll report back tomorrow when we've tried entering again.

EDIT: When I returned earlier today I could indeed summon Nightbane with the urn, so if your group is having problems using it, simply leave the instance for a bit untill it has reset and you should be fine.

Just wonder, can I pick up the quest, sell the Urn to the vendor, abandon the quest then pick it up again, and sell it again?

I did the quest but could not summon nightbane. I sold my urn. After doing some quests to get the kara key, I came in again a couple days later and still could not summon nightbane. Did I mess something up when I vendored the urn? How can I summon nightbane?

Oh tragedy happened, I sold Blackened Urn to the vendor but Archmage Alturus does no longer replace grey version of the Urn. Is there actually any other way?

Just an FYI, I'm doing old Karazhan with a new character and the Blackened Urn is available to click on the Master's Terrace.

Here's the actually current info now that Noctumor was removed way back in 7.1:

Noctumor is summoned in the old Karazhan raid by clicking Urna Annerita, which is now an interactable object instead of an item. The urn is located on the lowest level of the Master's Terrace (i.e., the first spot in the raid where you can go "outside"), right in the middle of the curve along the outer edge. It is accessed from the bottom of the Broken Stair (either the door under the stair, or the door just barely beyond it if you hang a left). You can access this area via two points:

The Servant's Access Door (southmost side of the top level of the Grand Ballroom, which is itself outside the Opera Hall)
The very upper level of the Opera Hall

The latter is only accessible after defeating the Opera bosses and continuing upwards through the door that opens, and I believe the former is only unlocked after defeating that fight anyways, so it's easiest to go through the Opera Hall.
