Grants access to old Scarlet Monastery

Looted as a reward from Zucca Ripiena as PigeonD said during Hallow's End world event.
The drop rate is not 100% but it does appear to be fairly high. Having all 4 curses may improve drop rate as per reports of other people.
Key is also obtainable on the Auction House or reportedly also from Arcanist Doan's chest, as mentioned by Kruggov in the comments.

After you obtain the key, head to the Scarlet Monastery. After entering the building, you will find on the left side a keychain with quest mark above it. Complete this quest.
Afterwards, when you interact with the keychain, you will get La Chiave Scarlatta buff after which you can interact with previously locked door to 2 old dungeons and enter them. Current portals to Scarlet Monastery also function as portals to the old dungeons they used to lead to. Interacting with the keychain repeatedly removes/reapplies the buff.

As of now, you can access all 4 previously removed dungeons.

This unlock is account-wide.

Is it level locked to any particular level? As in, will it drop to anyone able to fight Horseman or is it only a 70 drop? (EDIT: Think I answered my own question, lower level characters get a different loot container ("Loot Stuffed"), so they can't get it)

Is it really necessary to tie the Old Scarlet Monastery unlock to an event which is only available for two weeks in an entire year?
Is it really necessary to make the key a low droprate, with one chance per day for every character?
Is it really necessary to make it available only to max level characters?

Zul'gurub, Naxxramas and Scholomance were fun and interesting to unlock, this one seems really stupid in comparison.
Out of all the things, old items from Vanilla dungeons added back just for player enjoyment should not be walled behind FOMO nonsense...

Apparently you can also get the key from Arcanist Doan's chest in old SM. Which means getting the key can also be done by asking someone who has already unlocked old SM to grab one.

EDIT2: Apparently its once per week per account. Nice to see it's not a one-time deal.

The supply of this Item will be unlimited, since it also drops at 100% from the chest in the old Scarlet Library. So if you are not lucky at the event AH will soon be flooded with that item.

The key inside the dungeon can only be looted once per bnet, regardless of how many wow accounts you have

Fun fact, we can loot more La Chiave Scarlatta at the end of the Library, it's unique and you can trade it, in case you want to help your unlucky friends or be a j*rk and sell it to the AH

I killed the Horseman on 20 different toons yesterday (with no curses) and didn't get a key to drop.

Today on my first Horseman attempt, I clicked the wickerman to get all 4 curses, killed the boss and the key dropped.

I'm unsuccessful in sharing a lockout when I don't have a key.

A friend of mine tried to create a group for me to get in here without myself having the key (having sold it). When he zoned in, he got the old instance, but when I zoned in, I got the new Mists of Pandaria one. How are folks able to share this dungeon? We tried resetting instances and both heroic and normal.

Once you unlock old Scarlet Monastery, La Chiave Scarlatta is farmable. Simply run Armory wing and hope for it to drop. I did multiple runs and i received a lot of keys either from the last boss Herod, or from the mobs at the end of the dungeon.

EDIT: I am definitely not a troll. If the keys are not dropping anymore, it was a mistake and it was fixed. But personally, I received a lot of keys from Armory, same as a lot of people from gold making community.

apparently you need to be at LEAST lvl 60-70 to even have a remote chance of getting the key. dunno if that's legit or not, but it def sounds like something Actiblizz would do. but honestly, even if its not the case, i don't really see any reason to log into lvl 20 characters to do this stupid event now. (due to me not having an active account, i can't do the event on a lvl 60+ character)

You CAN do the dungeons at low level. I just did a run on a level 10 protection paladin on every one of the old dungeons. Dropped ilvl 60 gear suprisingly.

For those looking to grab additional keys to give to players or sell on the AH. You can loot keys from Doan's Strongbox in the old Scarlet Monastery Library Wing. The key can be looted Once Per Account, Once Per Week. The chest will respawn after the weekly reset and can be looted as long as the character you are on doesn't have a key in their Bags or Bank (due to the unique tag).
