Excellent tank trinket, and it's epic, so I'm guessing it's more like a Guardian's Alchemist Stone than an Indestructible Alchemist's Stone.

I just noticed that it requires level 80, not 85 to use. So you can powerlevel Alchemy at 80, and then rock with ilvl 359 epic in Hyjal and Vashj'ir

I could see this potentially being a pretty cheap source of Maelstrom Crystal once herb prices come down a bit. Volatile Life seems to be abundant with just casual herbing. Something to keep in mind for any alchemist/enchanter characters.

Edit: Apparently Blizzard agreed with my comment and as of the 1/18 hotfix: "Lifebound Alchemist Stones can no longer be disenchanted."

I gathered / farmed the mats for this sweet trinket for my protection paladin. I created the item, mats were consumed, but i didnt get the item. the combat log didnt even show that i made something, but i skilled up from 504-505

Sadly this trinket is absolutely terrible (coming from a PVE assassination rogue), the mastery on it is worth around 250 ap. This means that even a trinket with a measly 126 agility (or more) without any other effect is better than this. Obviously the stamina is useless because im not a tank. Why couldnt blizz release an int and an agility version too?

This is definitely good for casters and tanks, and likely for every other class as well. And not just for the 213 Mastery Rating.

In Cataclysm, Blizzard said they're putting more Stamina on gear for non-tanks, which means we're probably going to be needing a lot more health to handle lvl85 content. Just because you're not tanking doesn't mean whatever you're fighting isn't going to have AoEs or attacks that target a random person (which most likely won't be the tank).

And a boost to health/mana potions is good no matter what your class is in these situations. Casters are probably going to opt for a mana pot over health since Blizzard is kinda nerfing mana regen, but that just means that the 40% extra mana you get is that much more important.

realistically, very few caster dps classes will be using this item...even though it does have a nice 40% buff to pots and an amount of mastery. But the stam mastery and pot bonuses, however good they might be surviving large amounts of damage, upping the class specific mastery bonus, and increasing mana regen, they will not outweigh the dps gained from another epic, blue, or even green trinkets that could otherwise fill the slot.

many other trinkets have a use, that can be used more than once a fight, and can directly increase dps. the mastery on this trink does increase dps, but the use is only once per fight...and is really only beneficial if the caster needs/can use a fairly small boost in mana, maybe for cooldowns. 40% more from a pot once a fight is nowhere as useful as a a trinket that can be used 3 times a fight..unless maybe you have serious mana regen issues, and even then its questionable, as one 140% pot wont fix the problem.

imo, i would like to have seen a version(s) of this trinket not only undoubtedly good for all classes/specs, but one that may have somehow been useable after the first teir of content. as it stands, this is really only useful as a Philosophers Stone to most dps casters. and even thoes tanks/few dps that find merit in using this trink, it will be quickly replaced in the first cata raids.

For the record, when you hit 500 Alchemy making this will give you 5 skill-ups. So will the Flask of Enhancement.

BUT the problem is if you make the Stone first, the Flask will no longer give you 5 skill-ups; making the Flask first will give you 5, then the Stone after will still give you 5.

So make sure you create this second! Otherwise you'll not only miss out on 5 easy skill-ups, you'll waste a lot more money on mats. :(

So my question is this, does the alchemist stone benefit the mana gained from Potion of Concentration? If it does I may consider keeping it on for a while, but if not, this trinket will be fairly useless as I am only using Potion of Concentration now as opposed to Mythical Mana Potions. Please reply!

This is probably the most economical way for alchemists to go from 500-515:

At 500, make Flask of Enhancement first for the 5 skillups to 505. It will no longer give 5 skillups at 505, while Lifebound Alchemist Stone will no longer give 5 skillups at 510.

For 505-509, use any combination of Transmute: Living Elements or Transmute: Dreamstone.

If your server is anything like mine, Hessonite and Nightstone is significantly selling higher than the other stones due to their need for leveling JC. In particular, Hessonite x15 is needed for 510-515 for Alchemy normally, but if you make Lifebound Alchemist Stone at 509, you will still get the 5 skillup benefits and skip all the way to 514, thus lessoning the need for Hessonite.

An interesting thing to note is that this is disenchantable... while it is not exactly the cheapest method of getting maelstrom crystals, an alchemist/enchanter might be able to turn a decent profit in these early days of Cata selling to players who need their crafted epics RIGHT NOW.

For those who are wondering, the Health/Mana restored effect applies to other potions as well, not just Healing or Mana Potions. I tested it out with a Mysterious Potion and got a health restored of over 20,000 health, non-crit with this trinket equipped.

Best use for these stones is currently for creating Maelstrom Crystals. Why you ask?

Volatile Life x50 = 375g
Cinderbloom x12 = 84g
Heartblossom x12 = 131g
Azshara's veil x12 = 216g

Mats Total Price = ~800g
Maelstrom Crystal Sell Price = 1100g

YMMV according to server price's but this is how it is on mine currently. I generate around 6k per day using this strat typically, gotta make sure not to flood the server market though.

Do not make Flask of Enhancement when it is yellow, i repeat do not. I read up about the 5 extra points it gives you like the lifebound alchemist stone does but when i made it i got no points and wasted mats. I'm not sure if it is the same with the lifebound alchemist stone so i would read up on it if you are in the yellow for it.

While I do agree this is mostly for tanks, Mine has seen more-than-limited use on my Kitty DPS. While it is not itemized perfectly to suit Melee DPS, it does have a few things going for it, like
A) That is a poop ton of Bleed Damage (Mastery)
B) while the 40 +Agi that can be put into it is far from the best, it is more useful than a straight Mastery or Mastery/hit trink
C) Having 4k extra Health can be useful when a boss does a crazy AE attack
D) For those classes not concerned as much with mastery, it is reforge-able to be slightly more useful
I'm not saying that it is an ungodly useful trink, but it will do until you get a drop from a normal, which I have yet too, but I am seriously wanting that patch to come out so I can get 400 Agi in place of 400 Stam (If it is a 1:1 ratio :P)

I don't mean to sound a bit picky but now that patch 4.0.6 is releasing new alchemist stones making this trinket tank related, shouldn't the socket bonus contribute to the spec as well? +10 parry, dodge, or even it's primary attribute; stamina like the others will be pretty nice instead of critical strike rating since the bonus will be quite useless to tanks after the patch... I just don't like anything go to waste.

Now that we have the other stones available ingame, doesn't this one look like it is a bit underbudgeted?
I mean, 1 primary stat or rating = 1.5 Stamina. this one hast 19 extra rating, but is 70 stam short of what it should have if the ratings were the same.

I feel like this is a must-have for DK tanks nowadays. Stamina and Mastery are still your most important two stats, and the socket is nice too. Easily better than most of the other easily accessible epic trinkets for early raid tanking.

Does anyone know if you can use the Lifebound and Vibrant stones or are you only allowed to have 1 alchemist stone on? It says unique-equipped but I wasn't sure if that meant not having 2 of the same trinkets on versus 2 different trinkets.
