A level 70 Proto-Drago Elusivo walked towards the lure. Note that I was a lvl 64 hunter at that time. It wasn't hard to defeat and skinning it gave me quality 2 Scaglie Adamantine.

I was able to create another Esca per Creature Elusive which was on a 12h cooldown.

Tracking what I've found so far, these have been all over the place, just putting them down where I am when the cooldown is done.

23 Lures:

9 x Elusive Vorquin
2 x Elusive Hornstrider
2 x Elusive Feral Bakar

Does not seem worth putting your points into early. You do not get anything special from skinning these elusive creatures. The things you skin along the way to shorten the CD are generally more rewarding. An okay feedback loop but pretty disappointing usually.

Edit: It seems to give higher quality mobs now that I'm playing more. My skinning has been 100 since day 1, I've barely spent knowledge points so I don't know what's changed but I STILL think it's not worth it. The mats I get are still not any better than anything else I'm skinning.

Fun mechanic! You craft lures using Carne Ipotetica and then you set them out in the world and wait for creatures to show up. Killing and skinning the creatures gives you special skinning materials.

I have Mastery 40/40 and i was able to spawn a Rare with it (Frigidpelt Den Mother) used it at her location for testing and she spawned.

she always spawns the first time you use it infront her cave every day. tested it with other beast rares but havent found any other you can spawn with it.

Worth noting that he elusive creature summoned is level 70. My level 63 druid had to kite for a while to kill it.

40/40 Mastery in Bait Crafting enables you to find rares. Here are some that I found, would love for others to post more if they see them.

Has anyone encountered these bugs with the Bait?
1. When I try to infuse it with Earth, the cast goes off but nothing actually happens, I am left with the matts and now Infused Bait.
2. When I actually managed to infuse it, I couldn't place it down to summon, flew all around the place until it seemed to have worked in the Rockfang pit thing in Ohn'aran Plains

This is the way elusive creature bait works! It summons a skinnable creature. Pre-20 points, it will be a random normal level 70 creature with "elusive" added to it (e.g. elusive feral bakar, elusive salamanther, etc.). *WARNING!* It will summon a level 70 no matter what level you are, so be careful if you're level 60 or 61.

Once you reach 20 points in "mastery," you have a chance to randomly summon level 70 elite creatures (e.g. elusive prime alpha proto dragon, elusive elder rockfangs etc.), anywhere, that give better skinnable drops (guaranteed 1 x dense hide, 1 x lustrous scaled hide, etc.). These are not location-based.

Once you reach 40/40 in "mastery," you can go to specific spots (coordinates below) in the Dragon Isles and summon level 72 rares that drop at least 3x rare skinnable things like dense hides, lustrous scaled hides, salamanther scales, rockfang hides, etc, along with resilient leather, adamant scales, and so on. Infusing the elusive creature bait with elemental infusion seems to have no effect on what you're summoning other than adding rousing elements to the skinnable loot you get. You can summon each rare once per day and they are guaranteed to be summoned when used at the coordinates below.

I found a 3rd one! Elusive Ferocious Titanfang (level 72 rare) at 48, 51 in Theldraszus. I used it (twice, just to be sure it wasn't a fluke) on the ledge where the Eldoren the Reborn perches. I tried it with a normal elusive bait and an earth-infused bait. Both worked. So adding to the list:

Been trying to get the ice bears to tame and anytime I try to use the bait in Azure Span I get the message: "There are no worthwhile creatures in this area to lure out." So far the only place I can get it to work in the zone is where the Elusive Elder Frigidpelt spawns which can't be tamed. I have had no trouble getting it to work in the other zones, only Azure Span gives me that message. I have completed all the quests and maxed out the mastery sub-specialization on bait crafter so I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. Do I need elemental infusion frost for Azure Span and the bears?

I put 40 point into the bait skill and I'm 13 in mastery (still working on getting more point) and here's what I have observe so far:

-Skinning now reduce CD by 16mins per skin which, if i guess correctly, will be about 25-30 mins per skin once both Mastery and Elemental Infusion are maxed!
-Skinning small creature that give gray item and no leather still reduce the timer by the same amount as normal mobs! Try the beginner area with all those tiny proto drake + Bottle Pheromones ;)
-40 point into bait is suppose to reduce the CD by double the normal amount when skinning Elites or Rares but so far it seem to still reduce the CD by 16 mins just like normal mobs! I'm guessing either the talent is bug or it only apply to some elites!

Will try to update the info once I'm max mastery.

Fun fact, as a level 61 shaman uncapable of killing one of those, the beast just died about 5 minutes after I tried to kill it (my BL was about to come off cd) and I could skin it freely.

Earth bait worked on the Frigidpelt.

However they seem to be a daily skin, you probably have to rotate though the spots to get the best results.

On my level 64 druid, I used an elusive bait and the creature was level 70. I was guardian, so it would have been fine. A 70 monk came and touch-of-death'd it, and even though I got several damaging abilities off on it - I was unable to skin it because the monk did so first. We were not in a party, same faction - not WM. The body disappeared and I was left with nothing. Fairly disappointing, but I guess I'll wait until 70 so as to avoid this happening again :(

Is anyone else having an issue where no matter what you do or where you try no rares will spawn for your bait? I might just be dumb, but I have tried multiple locations multiple times and I always just get a random mob.

The be text on the item is completely different. It used to say :

Use: Place the bait, luring an elusive creature after a small amount of time. Who knows what might show up?

The cooldown of Elusive Creature Bait is lowered by skinning creatures in the Dragon Isles.

Only usable outdoors in the Dragon Isles.

Now it says "An enticing bait to draw elusive creatures out of hiding."

It has no on use text and doesn't appear to have any on use effect. it seems like there is supposed to be some ability that uses it in place of clicking the item, but I don't see that anywhere in the skinning journal or the spellbook.

Edit: This was a bug and has been fixed.

Elusive Magma Cobra (RARE) can be summoned at /way 43.78 48.07 zaralek caverns.

Place it while your location is in the "burning oasis" named area.

Crystalscale Stonecleaver (Rare) can be summoned at /way 59.70 39.53 zaralek caverns.

Place it in the shallow pond in the middle of Deepflayer Nest. It gave me a Flawless Crystal Scale for 3 Skinning knowledge as well as normal skin results.

I think there may also be a colossal sulfurstrider? Or is that a regular elite summon?

If you are a hunter trying to find info on getting these bears:
MPORTANT! DO NOT ADVANCE YOUR MASTERY TO 40!
If you do then it will add rares into the mix of things you can summon, further reducing the chance of getting a bear to spawn. (the bears are elites but not rare) making it even more unlikely to get the bears to pop up. So don't do this.

Ok now that that's out of the way let's get the basics down. The Elusive Creature Bait has a chance to spawn various animals related to the area+zone you set it down in. Among the roster of summoned creatures is the Elusive Rimeclaw Bear, which as well as sharing the possibility to spawn with one other elite type and three other non elites- the bear itself can spawn in one of five colors, only two of which are unique: the purple one and the mint green one. So the odds are going to be annoying for most of us.

You need to have a minimum of 10 points in Bait Crafter and 20 points in Mastery in order to make and put down the bait. (note, if you don't invest a minimum of 20 points in mastery, the bear cannot spawn.)

There are no perks you can invest in that will increase the chance of the bears/elites spawning over other mobs. There are, however, perks you can invest in to make things go faster. Namely the Mastery perks at level 25 and 35, which increase the amount of time shaved off of the bait cd for each animal you skin. (up to 20 min per creature) This will drastically reduce your farm time if you have the points to spend on it. Just don't go past 35. There is no benefit to doing so and you don't want to accidentally hit level 40 and ruin your chances.
At first it was taking me 15-20 min to recharge the bait, but once I hit lvl 35 I could recharge the bait every 5 or 6 mins.

Optional: 40 points in the “bait crafter” section will give you double the time reduction on your bait when you skin a rare or elite creature. While this will be a nice bonus if you happen to have it, you wont come across too many creatures fitting the bill and since it costs 40 points to get, it's not worth grinding out if you don't nearly have it already.

If you happen to have friends/guildies/fellow hunters who are also willing to help you, this could go even faster since these mobs can be seen and shared. Just note that they will die and despawn after a few minutes so be careful.

As for the farming and spawning places of choice, I farmed my skins around Camp Nowhere in the Azure Span; focusing on the various dams and farming the beavers and otters in the area since they are all grouped together. I found it faster to just find big groups rather than go farther away looking for hyper spawns. The whole area is good for skinning but if you need a place to start, go here. /way 57.62, 54.22
(note: skinning any of the baby mobs, even if they dont look like babies, will NOT reduce your timer.)

Once my cd was back up, I would make the short flight up to Sylven Plunge, near the Rhonin’s shield FP in order to place my bait. Anywhere near the ice bear cave should do. dont panic if nothing happens for a while, it takes a bit of time for something to show up.
Now, this is most likely just luck of the draw here, but I did start getting more bears to spawn after I started placing my bait at the top of the path/ on top of the cave. (like i think 4 out of 7 baits were bears up there. Probably just luck but still worth a try. ) /way 64.68, 29.19

And that's about it. In parting i will leave you with a rough tally of what it took for me to get one bear of each color.

My ending stats:
Number of baits: 40
Bears seen: 7-8
Unique colors seen: 2 purple, 1 green
Time spent searching: 8 ½- 9 hours

Materials acquired:
2,600 leathers
110 scales
77 dense hide
3 lustrous scaled hide
4 flawless scales
And a whole lot of other misc stuff

Level 70 tried to kill elusive elder fridge pelt. It killed me three times easily. I waited to see if anyone else showed up and was about to give up when suddenly it just dropped dead and I was able to skin it! Heart attack? Old age? Whatever it was I'm grateful.

You can tame the "elusive" critters but they turn into just regular critters upon taming.

Does anyone else find it annoying that they have to place the bait on the ground? There is only 1 place you can put it, directly on your feet, so its seems just a useless step in the process.
It would be a lot more user friendly if I could just click the bait in my bags and it would automatically place it at my feet instead of me having to click there.

A super easy way to reset your bait cooldown while 10.2 is current is to go do a superbloom in a raid group. There are enough Artigliombra Ferino killed during the event that you can skin to completely reset your CD (~36 minute reduction per mob).
