The 2340 mana returned on use works out to 39 +mp5, compared to Seaspray Albatross' total of 43 +mp5 when you combine it's on-use effect and passive effects. The fact that it's a bigger return on a longer cooldown is a good thing imho, with the Albatross it's up so often that you tend to forget to click it and you hardly notice the bonus. The addition of 42 int and 2 sockets makes this an excellent trinket.

Also, note that this is now a much better PvP trinket than the previous ones in this line ;)

Currently one of the highest mana regen trinkets available, depending on your class and how you gem it. I threw 2x 27 spirit dragon's eyes in it for my druid.

It won't be my primary healing trinket, particularly for trash, but it excels on long fights, just like the Seaspray Albatross did pre-Wrath.

For some rough calculations:

2x27 spirit gems = ~62.1 spirit (with living spirit talent)
5.04+9.31 = ~14.36 spell power (with lunar guidance and imp tree of life)
19mp5 while casting, unbuffed (will vary with your current stats, and increase with raid buffs)
77mp5 while not casting, unbuffed

As for the use alone, it's worth 39mp5 overall, bringing the total to around 58mp5 in combat, probably much higher with raid buffs.

You could socket for more int, spellpower, or some combination if you so desire, but I chose to maximize the regen potential of the trinket for intense healing situations. Personal preference really.

I would suggest putting normal gems in there, and using the prismatic for "bad sockets" on your gear (yellow for resto, blue for balance etc).
Also if you use another trinket (+spell power in less mana dependent fights) you are wasting 2 epic dragon eye gems you could have active on your armor sockets instead.

With two 16 Spirit gems this equals 53.8 MP5 if used every cooldown, plus benefits from 42 int.
I'm using this macro for lifebloom to make sure it is used always:

Activating this trinket summons a small owl that will follow you for the duration of the mana restoration. :)

I put two +27 intellect gems in there, and you can see the mana pool and crit rating I have most definitely reflect that. A must-have for any jewelcrafting paladin healer.

Srsly.

27k mana raid buffed, you can't go wrong.

Up until recently, I've had +16 int gems in this, and it is a beast of a trinket. However, regardless of the 50% -healing on Divine Plea, i still rarely use it. It sure does aid a lot in keeping a high mana pool, (1k+ mana if gemmed with dragon's eye) but its use is rather fail. Consider how much mana u gain from Divine Plea over 5mins, now compare that to the 2340mana per 5mins from its use. Surely it should share the cooldown of the other figurines? the serpent is 2mins? or 3mins? and lol, lets not forget 1min on the crab? so why 5min for such a small mana amount?.

If paladin:
Consider these with Divine Plea; the mana regen gained from all that extra mana should be more than any mp5 or spirit would gain you from say Dazzling Forrest Emerald or Seer's Forest Emerald (math calculations needed).

Due to the fact that almost every other post says to add https://www.wowhead.com/wotlk/item=42148 to this item, Let me say it so everyone understands. The Socket Bonus on this is USELESS. Use https://www.wowhead.com/wotlk/item=42148 on gear you need the bonus for, while you add okay gems to this. Prismatics should be for filling in those gem slots for the epic bonuses on items, not for 2 MP5. Personally, I'd put https://www.wowhead.com/wotlk/item=40010 or the cheaper https://www.wowhead.com/wotlk/item=41440 for the MP5 and the bonus if you are really desperate for gemming this.

Is this on use effect usable on the General encounter, i.e does it count in the same way as manapots/innervate and such?

I have a holy pally, socketed this with 2 20mp5 gems...Now gives 42 Int and 42 MP5 Passively, not even counting the use effect...

According to Rawr, if my only trinket is this, there are only 7 trinkets better then this, The new badge item, Illustration of Dragon soul from Hero OS, and the other 5 are from Uldaar Catches at minimum (quite a few of those are even in hardmodes).

Matching this with easy-to-get Egg of Mortal Essance (40 Emblems of Hero) or Embrace of Spider (Maexxna in Reg Naxx), we only add 1 more item from Uldaar as upgrade over the combo of Owl and one of the easy ones above.

Worth making Asap when you hit 75, and using 2 JC gems allows you to save your other JC gems/tokens for recipies and 1 other item worth giving a JC gem (like helm with meta). Once you get 2 of the few upgrades to this, feel free to bank it or unsocket your JC-gems to give to your Highest level gear.

Lustrous Dragon's Eye JC's can have 3 equipped
This trinket with those two gems is no point in theorycraft about, cause JC healers will most likely have use them elsewhere. So, the next best thing is Lustrous Majestic Zircon

So lets see, two of them, makes it 22mp5 from gems(with socket bonus)
The use effect, as stated earlier, are 39mp5.
42int = 630mana(if in a 300sec fight = 10.5mp5)

So, for a mp5 trinket, this one gives 71.5mp5(in a 5min fight)
