it seems that in the expansion not just rings but also so pieces of neck gear will have armor on it.
this neck is great for any tank out there, but i cant shake the feeling that this neck and the other necks with armor on it is a little gift from blizzard to relieve some of the strain that will be put on tanking feral druids in the expansion.

Best necklace in-game for feral druids as tanking. The other 1 from naxx provides +hit and 0.70% more dogde or some.. while this 1 gives more STR stam and expertise and ofcourse armor.

Yes, best in slot. However, it is a close call with the amulet of Autopsy.

You gain stam, strength, and hit (defense being somewhat pointless), but you lose dodge and -14 armour.

If it drops I'd take it, but if a DK or other feral needs it, I'd pass as I already have Autopsy.

In all, a minor upgrade over 10man Naxx version.

However, these two are both vastly better than the badge neck.

From the perspective of all plate tanks, this neck still offers a massive boost to effective health over all other necks in the game, plus a very nice tps/dps boost. Get it if possible!

An alternative is Heritage, not mentioned above (you'll probably prefer this to Amulet of Autopsy)

Edit: Forgot about paladins (I'm surprised nobody pointed it out) who gain very little from expertise. Still loads of effective health and survivability but it's not much of a threat neck.

I passed this as a warrior tank today, in favor of my drakescale collar (https://www.wowhead.com/wotlk/item=44660).

1) Drakescale has a little more strength, and if you put a stamina gem in the slot, it has an extra 2 stam.

2) The extra defense doesn't benefit enough to be worth it if you are already defense capped.

3) Expertise is always great to have, but I would prefer the parry and shield block over it.

Also not to mention, this is the 10 man maly neck, the 25 man one is even better.

Not to be confrontational, but your points 2) and 3) show a decided lack of basic knowledge about Tanking stats.

Defense is THE NUMBER ONE Avoidance stat in the game, EVEN AFTER 540. 540 is not a "cap." You are NEVER defense "capped" as a tank. Defense continues to provide more point-for-point avoidance than Dodge and Parry all the way up to 600 and above.

As for the Expertise, there's no point-for-point comparison since you're comparing Avoidance/Mitigation stats to Threat stats, but Expertise is one of the most important stats for a Tank. It's more than twice as effective as Hit up to 26 Expertise and still superior after that (useful all the way up to 64 Expertise).

Considering I'm a DW tank, the amount of expertise here should really help me out. That and of course the defense and the stam. From what everyone has been saying, the DK tanking gear is lacking on defense, so would this be the amulet I go for or are some of the others listed better options?

i agree that this is a rather good necklace, but there is always something better

i dont think anybdoy is ever gonna get THE BEST gear

with new patches comes new armor

with new expansions comes more levels and places

there will always be something new to get

cause if there wasnt, and u did have the best gear and all the cool mounts

the game would simply get boring

so we would prolly play it less, or eventually stop

and Blizzard doesnt want us to do that

so they got to make more and more every patch and exspansion if they want us to keep playing

thats the whole point of them

so basically this comment was referring to the 1st and comment and the one right before mine

but all in all

this is a pretty good necklace :)

I took this last night, over the heroic badge tank neck. Decent upgrade, lots of stam, extra defense, lost some hit and dodge in favor of the expertise and armor.
