After 5 runs farming for this item on my feral druid, it finally dropped and the hunter in the group need-rolled and won it. Hunters, you guys do not need expertise. Way too many hunters don’t seem to understand that.

I hope some hunter who is considering rolling for this ring against a melee class reads this and decides to pass. Having a hunter of my own, I would never roll on this if a melee class wanted it. There are better blue rings out there that don’t waste stat points on expertise. Just as melee classes pass on the bows and guns to you (and they should), leave this one to the melee classes.

Rolling on this ring as a hunter.. it's like a rogue is rolling on Red Sword of Courage just because it has +hit and 143dps.. (omg, this sword is good for my OH! go away you tank!)

If every melee dpser in your grp is going to QQ just because you need that extra 100 dps, go for Mobius Band which drops from CoS with a higher drop rate.

While its blue and not pretty purple, it gives you about 2.75 more dps. For BM hunters anyway.

The problem with deciding who gets this ring is because there are just not enough good items out there yet.

At first glance it screams melee dps. But then with that much agi and stam, it is really good for a feral tank in 3.0.8 (and expertise and attack power do help with threat, so they are not wasted). And finally when you look at the other ring options for a hunter, you realize that this is top 5 best rings for them too.

So what do you do? I personally say that melee dps, the feral tank, and the hunter all go for it. But your other tanks only roll if none of the above need it.

If anyone knows of a better ring for a feral tank, I'd love to hear about it!

Edit: I found this one https://www.wowhead.com/wotlk/item=37784 which might be better for the feral druid 3.0.8, but I'm still looking for a second ring that is better than the Hemorrhaging Circle.

This is "arguably' not the best of hunter rings as it has expertise which does nothing for a hunter, so it would be polite to pass to a melee DPSer who would benifit more... but if you are like I was and ran with a mage and 2 pally's then you might be able to get this one without any debate. NO ONE CAN ARGUE that the +agi and +AP are not great for a hunter.

As a hunter i am sick of ppl QQing when they see that i have it... it was miles better than my Bjarngrim Family Signet which is what most hunters seem to run around with.

I would pass to melee though... probably...well... yeah...

The very simple solution is to form your groups with your brain instead of letting lfg do it for you. If you want this item then don't go with hunters that don't have it. If you are a hunter and want this item then don't go with a melee that wants it. Its that simple, when I run instances I form the groups and I ask people straight out if they are after my item. If they are after the item I want, then I give them a no thanks. DPS is a dime a dozen, so you will always find some that don't want the items you want.

Moron. The game is built to give semi-equal drop offerings to every class. So, if you spend the same amount of time in dungeons, you have the same chance of having YOUR optimal gear drop. Just because you spent the same time as a rogue or druid in that particular dungeon does not mean a ninja-job on their optimal gear is acceptable. It means that you need roll your optimal gear always, pay deference to them on gear that would waste 33 valuable expertise points on you (even if it would be an overall improvement for you) and expect them to do the same for you on gear that is good for them, but optimal for you.

As a rogue I passed on the Utgard crossbow twice even though its stats were, at the time, way better than what I was using. Why? Because even though it had some very real benefit to me, it gave much more to the hunter in the group.

Threads like this make me understand why so many people hate hunters. They're just too often clueless and selfish. If a hunter rolled on this when any other melee dps wanted it, I'd immediately kick/ignore him.

Are there any hunter specific epic rings that i may have missed pre Naxx? I have looked through the list and can see rings for all classes except hunters. This ring might be nice due to the ap and stat increases but expertise is kinda useless. Are hunters expected to pay for their rings where other classes can just farm instances?

I just can't bring myself to wear an item with a superfluous stat on it. It would be like wearing a tank or spellcaster ring... pointless as it adds little to no value to your build. Besides that, due to that one unnecessary stat, you are forced to pass on it through basic etiquette to a melee class. Gief us a Haste, AP, Agi and stam/int ring plx! But back to the original question... am i missing something?

This ring dropped for me in first heroic (Culling of Stratholme) and I hadn't looked at different loot tables beforehand so it came as a huge surprise to me that it only drops in Gundrak.

This is actually quite good for Hunters (bar the expertise). I would roll on it if nobody else needed it. Let the Melee take it, then if no one wants it yeah, I'll take it for sure. And I have enough of rep on my realm that people don't question how I gear, so all's good =P

I can say as a hunter, I was tempted when I saw it drop last night. But I didn't roll on it as the DK could have gotten more use out of it than I would have. I will one day have one though... probably on the day I run Gun with a prot warrior, holy priest and 2 other mages.

OK, first of all, let me say, I play a hunter. Secondly, I had this drop earlier today, and i passed on it, even though it was an upgrade, because there was a rogue in the group. I understand that expertise is a dead stat for hunters, but the other stats aren't. And all the QQ rogues that have replied before me, quit rolling on gear that you don't need. I can't count how many times I've had to roll against rogues (or warriors for that matter) for bows or guns...

Ok, so as a hunter, here's my take on it. Aside from the expertise, this is a great ring for a hunter. The only pre-Naxx ring that I'd consider replacing this with is Signet of Edward the Odd, and considering that it is quite expensive, this is a pretty good alternative. Granted, I would not roll against a melee DPS class, however I was in a group where no one else was interested so I took it. It did take me awhile to get over the fact that I was about to equip a ring with a wasted stat, however, the increased DPS was worth it to me.

I know that there are other rings out there pre-Naxx that are decent for a hunter, but none are really better. The one that's closest is Mobius Band, but since there are 2 ring slots, it would most likely be more ideal for a hunter to have both.

This ring is a perfectly valid and acceptable role for DPS warriors, DK's, and Ret Pallies. As was pointed out there are only TWO dps rings with strength on them (which is THE optimal stat for said classes, yes), but they're both raiding items. So pre-raid, this is (as has also been stated) the best melee dps ring available for any class. Will some classes hold onto it longer? Maybe. But I doubt it'd be held onto for any longer by a rogue who had an opportunity to roll on https://www.wowhead.com/wotlk/item=39277 or https://www.wowhead.com/wotlk/item=40074 both of which are also available in Naxx (or 25 man naxx, as is the second case).

I've been farming for this ring for about 3 weeks now almost every day. It dropped once (the plate epic gloves seem to drop the most), i thought it was mine, beeing the only melee dps in the party, but surprise surprise! The tank (druid) out-rolled me on the need roll. Is it just me or was that a text-book ninja?

The 2 most important things for an enhance shaman to have maxed out are hit rating and expertise. This ring will definitely help in that area.

Maybe I have really bad luck, but I think the drop rating on this has significantly decreased. I've run this about 16 times now, and the ring has dropped once (Which, as a rogue, I got out-rolled by a tank DK for offspec).

I've never seen this drop and the first time I see it drop, a hunter accidentally rolled on it b/c it had Agil, Stam and AP. I guess another few dozens runs and I'll get mine. :(

There are 17 level 200 rings that drop from heroic 5man bosses.
- 9 caster
- 5 tanking
- of the remaining 3 rings.... hunters are "allowed" to roll on 1 of those and its a rare.

I ended up with this ring on my freshly dinged hunter since the melee dps in group didn't need.

Turns out I'm still wearing it a looong time later, as i've yet to have a chance to roll on anything better.

Did gun'drak with a pug recently and the ring dropped again. When the melee rolled on it i mentioned that i already had it and that it was a great little ring. The rogue then proceeded to abuse me in whispers for being a huntard and 'stealing' a ring off melee classes for the next five mins.

in summary - yes this is a great ring for hunters but we should always ASK before rolling on anything with expertise, it's no different then rolling on something with spell power. or something.. and melee.. please don't assume the worse if you see a hunter wearing one :).

Ran Gundrak today and this dropped.

Lost it to a "Tank" Dk. He is my younger brother and he took it because it was epic, thats it. And today I got his account back from the guy that hacked it and he repays me by taking the best rogue dps ring before raids.

So having read the page and looked at the stat budgets on the ring, would the priority order be;

1. Kitty Druid, Bear Druid and Rogue (They all use the 4 stats mentioned above and gain the most out of them)

2. DPS Warrior, DPS Death Knight, Ret Paladin, Ench Shaman (Again they use all the 4 stats; Agi = Crit, AP = Str, but gain slightly less out of the stats than melee Druids and Rogues)

3. Hunter (Expertise is wasted on them as Bullets and Arrows cannot be dodged)

4. Prot Warrior, Tank Death Knight, Prot Paladin (all def capped) (Agi = Block/Parry, but most tanks would have better rings that raise stamina more and give bonus's to def and block/parry/dodge)

Then factor in off specs, disenchanting then the group greed roll.

Anyone want to correct me on this?

Please read this in its entirety before downranking.

It has been my long-standing belief that Hunters are, on average, not significantly less intelligent than the general WoW population. There are, however, several reasons they seem to be:

1) Confirmation Bias - You hear that Hunters are idiots, you see a few stupid Hunters... the person who told you Hunters are stupid must've been right, no?

2) Easier to play badly - Note that this isn't saying that we are harder to play well, just that it's easier to do stupid things with your pet if you actually have a pet to do stupid things with (for example). Also, the in-game descriptions for stats aren't always clear about exactly what stats do... and since everyone seems determined to call Hunters "melee" (including some developers), it shouldn't be too surprising when uninformed Hunters stack melee stats. Indeed, even in Northrend will you find Mail "of the Tiger" gear.

3) More obvious when playing badly - Pets cause more damage to the group when mismanaged than pretty much anything else in the game. A Hunter that thinks melee is good sticks out like a sore thumb as well.

4) There are a higher number of stupid Hunters... because there are a higher than average number of Hunters. We're a popular class, so even if we have the same proportion of stupid players as other classes, we'll have more idiots playing the class. Death Knights seem to suffer from this as well.

5) More attractive for new players - The extra customization of pets makes the Hunter class pretty appealing if you don't know much about the game. Perhaps a lot of players "graduate" to other classes, or decide that they enjoy the perks they get when playing alts, or something along those lines. New players tend towards being bad at the game, though not necessarily less intelligent.

Stereotyping someone based on any factor (including class) isn't cool. Judge people based on their merits alone. If a Hunter ninjas this over a Rogue/Druid/Shaman, feel free to stick them on your ignore list. Of course, do the same thing to the Boomkin or Mage that ninjas it over the Hunter. Assuming that the Hunter is an idiot/ninja just because they are a Hunter, though, isn't fair to the Hunter.

...That being said, Hunters - You can do a lot better than this. Both the Mobius Band (25 Hit is way better than 6 Agi, 14 AP, and 5 Stam) and possibly The Prospector's Prize (surprisingly, Int is about on par with Agi for Hunters if you don't expect mana regeneration beyond Replenishment; the Haste isn't great, but it isn't a wasted stat either) will give you more mileage than this and drop from Heroics.

Pick this up if nobody else wants/needs it, but this isn't the BiS pre-raid that some people claim it is. If the other rings put you over the Hit cap, change a gem/enchant. If your gear is Hit capped without gems, enchants, or rings, you probably are valuing Hit too highly (getting Hit capped is important, but if you don't leave yourself a little room to upgrade gear, you shouldn't be surprised when you can't upgrade gear properly).

Hunters Are prob some of the most intelligent players in the game as a good hunter can Kite, DPS , Drop aggro control there pet and direct Mobs to certain players all while not getting hit or not much. I played a hunter for 3 years before trying out another class and I think im gonna be a hunter at heart for ever. A good hunter is like a good tank or healer, the leetness of a good hunter can carry a suck group through a instance iv seen it done it first hand, I think the tard part should totally roll on DKs in WoTLK because there lvl 55 noobs as opposed to the 80 hunters at least the have to start at 1 hah.
As for this ring - if its a upgrade its a upgrade if you want this particular ring get a group that you know to go with you or put a group together say this is mine and Master looter that stuff. Im not a tard consider me a A hole if you wish but i would not pass to someone i just met in a pug unless they specifically said i want that ring. It should not be expected for you to Pass on loot if its an upgrade unless its specified before hand.

Just picked this up on my Druid(cat dps) on just my second run(just hit 80 on him 2 days ago) in H Gundrak, the first run, the ring also dropped(which is weird, I've run Gundrak a ton of times on my Paladin and have only seen it drop maybe twice), but had a dk and paly(ret) as the other two dps and another paladin as the healer, who also rolled on it : |. Dk won the roll, Second run, was the only one who needed(very geared group other than myself doing the achievements). Not a bad first couple days for my druid, got the staff of trickery on a roll, normally I'm unlucky with rolls.

I have it on my main, a hunter. Another hunter needed on it and I did too. Had much more agility and attack power than my old one. No one else wanted it. Just because I cannot use expertise does not mean I cannot use the Stam, Agil and AttkPwr. 3 against 1.

I agree that sadly some noob hunters haven't found the passive button on their pets, however the term "Huntard" is still used indiscrimately towards hunters for just about anything, and has been for years whether that is now true or not.
In BG's noobs who have no clue throw advice back in the face of hunters saying "yeah listen to the stupid huntard" or similar comments, even though they stink at playing their toon.
I actually (my main is a hunter) stopped pugging dungeons as almost every time I went in some other player unloaded abuse on me for just about anything, just for the hell of it, it seems, yet no other players complained about their use of language or wrecking the gameplay. "Your pet did that" concerning a wipe, even though my pet was next to me on passive is only 1 example of many. Repeatedly being called a retard, huntard and use of other much stronger language seems the accepted norm in the WoW community. I'm not from the States where the word retard seems to be the only and staple word of abuse (even though it denotes a disabled/handicapped person.....nice) and to many this word is offensive in the extreme, but I don't see any hunter bashers QQ'ing about that.

not sure i agree with people on this not being a need roll for hunters. the stats on the ring that hunters can use are pretty good even when compared to other similar pre-raid options.

i always ask before i need. in this case i would probably give way to the melees but too many times i get flack for needing (even when classes better suited for the item don't want to need it) on items some perceive not as a hunter item, like this one.
