It is only possible to get these from items (player) level 51-60 from Azeroth.
Outland items do not give Greater Eternal Essence at all.

Both Illusion dust and Eternal Essences are decently cheap to get by disenchanting https://www.wowhead.com/wotlk/item=14111 (tailoring).

Something is seriously wrong with Blizzard...instead of these things getting cheaper with BC the prices have went WAY up, 15g each on my realm.

They need to up the drop rate from DEing, or make them purchaseable or something.

The problem with greater eternal essences is the "upgrading" of gear that they did, back when they brought out Tier 0.5

Basically, alot of gear used to be greens, and as such dropped GEE's. But when they upgraded the old greens to blues (as example, Cadaverous Set, and indeed alot of Scholo stuff), the "drop" rate of Greater Eternals fell. Blue's give large brilliant shards (or the booby prize, nexus crystals). Greens are what you need.

I feel you. Im getting enchanting up and I have more shards and dusts than I know what to do with but they aren't worth jack since I dont have my essences. I am four pts away from BC enchanting but can't get essences. /tear

Well I can at least say I'm not alone now. I just can't seem to get enough of this...perhaps it's the Burning Crusade's curse of leaving the mainland? I guess I'll have to go back and farm a bunch of old dungeons. Anyone have a better idea for me? Anyone know the best place to get items to d/e for this?

that's probably because you didn't read his comment and you disenchanted items that REQUIRED lvl 63 or higher, and didn't look and weapons with their ITEM LVL around 63.

take one look at the "disenchanted from" tab in wowhead and you would have saved yourself the trouble, and from making your comment.

On wow-head it says it is created by 2 Lesser Eternal Essences however it requires 3 of them like all other Lesser > Greater transmutes.

For now I'm finding that the best place to get these as a 70 druid is by soloing the first three guards in DM North, they sometimes drop blues but mainly a green item that you can de for dust or an essence, often 2 greater eternal essence per boss

If you are a tailor/enchanter, you can make quite a lot of these easily by disenchanting Runecloth Shoulders.

These give up to three Essences or five Illusion Dust and both sell well on the AH, so if you are wanting one for an enchantment/crafting but get the other then you can just sell them on at a profit.

The materials for the shoulders are easily farmed or bought cheaply from the AH. Runecloth is very easy to get in huge numbers from farming Stratholme, plus you will also get a few green items there which disenchant into Essence/Dust too.

Of course, if you are not a tailor/enchanter who likes to farm then this won't be much use to you. But I make a lot of gold by selling these on the AH to the weekend BG twink crowd.

what i normally do to DE and sell high is to buy lvl 51-55 weapons on the AH for 10g or less. There is a chance for illusion dust but the chance for greater eternal essence(usually two) is about 80%.

I wouldn't recommend this for anyone whose server sells greater eternals for under 9g, my server is aroundd 10-11g each and i've made about 300g in the past week just doing this.

Despite what you may see here, it does take three Lesser Essences to create a Greater Essence. What you see here is actually a quirk of the way Blizzard handles the spell. On Blizzard's end, a two-step process occurs:

You use the first Lesser Essence, destroying it in the process.
A spell is cast, which destroys the other two Lesser Essences, and creates a Greater Essence.

This spell here--step two--is the spell that gets listed here on Wowhead.

Greater Eternals and Illusion Dust can be a HUGE moneymaker for tailor/enchanters. I've found the best way to generate GEs or IDs is by crafting Wizardweave Turbans from runecloth, a star ruby, and a rune thread.

I find Turbans more profitable than shoulders because when a Turban des into Greater Eternals it always disenchants into either 2 or 3, never just one. When it drops illusion dust, you get 2, 3, 4, or 5. My drop rates run about 20% 2 illusion dust, 20% 3, 20% 4, 20% 5, 10% 2 Greater Eternals, 10% 3 Greater Eternals.

So a quick example: if runecloth is 20s per piece, and star rubies are 4g each and rune thread are 50s each, then your cost to make the turban is 10g50s. If illusion dust sells for 3g and Greater Eternals sell for 15g, then your average take from a disenchant is 15.9g. The trick is finding enough runecloth and star rubies.

My server goes through waves. I can often find runecloth for as low as 6s per piece in stacks of 20, but I average 15s per piece. When I first discovered this, star rubies were selling for 1g50s but now they're up to 4g for an average ruby. I get occasional droughts of reasonably priced runecloth now that most folks are 70,but I get through those droughts by farming my own or just waiting till prices cycle back down. Fortunately about once per week I've been able to get full stacks of rubies at reasonable prices, but your results may vary.

Blizzard doesn't set the AH prices, that's your fellow players.

Frankly, it's a normal and logical effect, too: the level of items that Greater Eternal Essences come from via disenchanting is very close to the level where people will be transferring to Outland, so at that point, most people aren't focused on gear but on getting those last couple levels. They know any gear they pick up right then will be replaced almost immediately upon getting to Outland. As a result, people aren't selling gear in that level range on the AH very much, and people aren't working on professions very much either, so the majority of the items these Essences come from get vendored. All of this results in a lower supply of the items being available, and since I'm sure that we're all familiar with the most basic law of Supply and Demand...lower availability while demand remains means higher prices.

Absolutely fantastic way to make money for enchanters. There are lots of people running Strath etc now, willing to get rid of some green weapons on AH for much lower prices than what you can fetch for selling these.

On Magtheridon, it's a seller's market for these, and it doesn't seem to be changing. They go for around 25g per. Stacks are sold for considerably less, but they are infrequent and expensive. I have ench/tail, and even though I can d/e my own tailored crap, it wasn't enough to get the required amount of these to level up enchanting sufficiently.

If you want to get 2 of these Greater Eternal Essence really quick, solo the first boss in DM West, Tendris Warpwood. Provided you have the key to the dungeon, you can do it in less than 15 minutes. I started to solo this boss with my survival hunter at lvl 70, in Northrend greenies: never died once. Just keep in mind to clear protectors in the courtyard before aggroing the boss (the big walking trees, not the small ones). Every other trash will not go aggro on toons lvl 67+ (that's the level of the lowest lvl pet i bringed there).
Tendris drops a green staff or a green shield that disenchants into 2 Greater Eternal Essence. If you're really unlucky (!)you'll get the blue drop (reset and repeat).

Also a good tip in order to get https://www.wowhead.com/wotlk/item=16203 and https://www.wowhead.com/wotlk/item=16204 is to do this quest https://www.wowhead.com/wotlk/quest=8522

In the box you get there are the green items that give these items very much.

Plus from the https://www.wowhead.com/wotlk/item=21436 (if you have 30 of them) you can turn them in to this guy https://www.wowhead.com/wotlk/npc=15701#ends he will give you another box which most of the time also has a green item in the item level needed for both the mats.

PS:
This is only doable if the AQ-event is still going on your server.

This helped me alot and hope it will also help you in leveling your Enchanting to 300.

The inflation on these things is vulgar. ITS CHEAPER TO BUY WEAPONS AND DE THEM. Here's what I did:

-Open up the AH and search all weapons between lvl 51 and 60
-Turn on your disenchant spell
-scroll over the weapons and find the ones with ENCHANTING LEVEL 200
- if they're less than about 10g, BUY THEM.

DE'ing items with enchanting level 200 gives two Greater Eternal Essences nearly every time.

While I do completely understand why these are ridiculously over-priced these days, here's a funny thing I noticed on 5 different servers I play on. Why do people post Lesser Eternal Essence for almost the exact same price as the Greater Eternal Essence? Are there that many stupid buyers? Or just stupid sellers? Inquiring minds want to know...

EDIT: I've noticed this with just about all essences btw.

I personally found Felcloth Shoulders to be a very good source of this stuff. Two bolts of Runecloth, and Felcloth is relatively cheap. I got four or five in disenchanting six shoulders, at the cost of twelve bolts and about twelve gold.

The easiest way to farm these (in my own experience) is to get on your level 80... Go to Stratholme and destroy/loot everything that moves. You'll be killing two birds with one stone because they mobs in Stratholme also drop ample supplies of Runecloth which is used for reputation increases (for you people who do that sort of thing) and also making items in tailoring; I.E. Runecloth Headband to later disenchant to get even more. It's recomended that a Paladin or Death Knight do the farming, because the mobs are pretty big and a lot of caster clothies don't do so well. A Shaman would also be prefered but not so much a Hunter.

By far the easiest way to make money on every server that I've played on is by following this simple procedure every time you enter an auction house.

1) Search for Armor in the 56-59 range
2) Buy any green item that is selling for <=4g
3) Disenchant and sell mats

These items all disenchant into 2-5 illusion dust, 2-3 Greater eternal essences, or very very rarely 1 large brillliant shard. You more or less break even with the dust if you can sell them for 1g each which is pretty standard, and you make a killing by selling the essences for roughly 6g each. I've been doing this on Bronzebeard for over a year, averaging about 15g in profit each time I enter an auction house. Not bad for no work at all.

SAme problem on The MAelstrom. Prices are as high as i can reach. We get ppl selling these for 5-6 G, but it's been going down for a while now. I'd like more comments on how to power grind these since their really needed.

wicked leather headbands...
seems to me the cheapest way to get hold of illusion dust and greater eternal essence.
12 rugged leather 1 runethread and 1 black dye.
obviously a skinner helps. but on frostmourne 20 stacks of leather i found for 1g 50s.
the headbands also sell well.
keep these in mind for levelling leather work also.

eumh.... I've made about 25 runecloth headbands, and only got two greater eternal essences from one disenchant.
So 43% dischance, NO WAY :(

ive tried DE every kind of runecloth item many many times and they all give EE's about the same, which is NOT even close to 43%. So I just do belts now since I dont need Ironweb silk. Get about 4% rate on DE for GEE and maybe 8 - 10 % for LEE.

It seems to me that the best drop rate of these is from level 51-55 green weapons. I got quite a few from D/E quest rewards from quests in un'goro and WPL. If u can find any weapons in this level range on the AH for less then 5g, i would buy them and sell the essences. You should make some good money like that.

yes, a very small entry says don't bother with wicked leather headband, wish i had noticed that entry sooner. spent all night farming rugged leather, made 34 wicked leather headbands. DE'd the lot. ended up with 47 illusion dust, and, out of the blue, 1 large brilliant shard. Yeah, yeah, beat the odds on the shard but I just can't get a GEE for the frikkin life of me. done all the runecloth, frostweave and wizardweave too. All in all, mat-cost-wise, runecloth headbands at maybe 4% have worked out "best", if you want to call it that, and half the time they're lessers, anyway. the amount of time I've spent trying to avoid paying AH prices could have been spent in outland raking in gold and just buying the damn things. Piss on the GEE's I'll pay the 12-15g and be done with it.

These essence go for 15g on kargath, my explanation, would be that the majority fo green items 51-58 come from pre-BC dungeons, i.e UBRS, LBRS, scholo, Strath, and since the BC, nobody runs those instances anymore, thus nobody gets lvl 51-58 pre-BC green's, leading to an inevitable decrease in the amount of eternal essence's farmed. Bottom line, you want these, grab a buddy and do a pre-BC instance.

Best way to farm these is if you're an enchanter and u can DE, farm DM East.Go the back door of DM East(from Camp Morache go east then north and back west till u see a pavillion). kill 3 bosses (Lethtendris,Hydrospawn,and Zevrim Thornhoof) in 10 min. DE the level 53 greens.Rinse wash repeat.This is easy if you're 70 u can pass most of the mobs to the 3 bosses.

If u are a Rogue or Druid 70 Startholme is easy but it takes time if u wanna clear all bosses. Whit some luck and if u can find rares ones u can get in 1 run 16 Large Brilliant.
if u wanna Greater Eternal Essence or Illusion Dust is also easy. I only clean scarlert part and at least u take 4 or 5 greens and also 2-3 Rigtheous Orb.

For Greater Eternal also u can go to Dire Maul north and kill 2 first bosses that they are almost at entrance so theres a fast drops.
2º boss can give u 2 greens items so is a nice way too, ofc u must be Rogue or Druid.

OK, just did it half an hour ago, wicked leather headband, DE pattern: 1 illusion dust, 2 ID, 1 greater eternal essence, 2 GEE. in the end I have 11 GEE and 27 ID from DE probably 30 some headbands

To the poster that got nothing but illusion dust, I don't know maybe you were unlucky. I just DE'd a 51 green (cloth gloves) and got 2 greater eternal essences. So far it looks like I can farm these mats from the mobs in DM East, which is comfortably soloable.

Epics = Crystals

Best way to farm these is to find Green Weapons.

For large brilliant shards, you'll get one almost every time you disenchant a blue item that's level 50 or higher, at least as far as my own experience has shown. (Reference to the post at the bottom of the thread)

u just disenchant lvl 46+ to get lesser and eternal essences, u have to enchant lvl 52+ blues to get large radiants

Disenchant any 50-60 blue item for large brilliant shards. DM tribute runs with your giuld are the esayest way to do this.

Hi all, looks like this may help some of you,

Since BC went live this mat has gone up loads, simple supply and demand I'm afraid.

DEs from green weapons and armor 52 plus (I think)

Green weapons have a ~79.5% chance to DE into essence
~19.5% chance to DE into dust
~1% chance to DE into a shard

Green Armor bits have a ~79.5% chance to DE into dust
~19.5% chance to DE into essence
~1% chance to DE into a shard

i dont think these stats are the same for BC equipment.

Best way I have found to farm at 70 is with guild runs in old 55-60 instamces. Scholo dropped about 10 greens last night and wass a very quick run with 3 70s and a 60 along for the XP. Also bring an enchanter with you for the BOp stuff, we got 12 large shards.

I'll just leave this here: When it comes to crafting gear for DE as cheaply as possible that can produce greater eternals, leatherworkers have a rather large advantage over tailors.
