The Kirin Tor is a league of magic users. Their command structuer was somewhat democratic before WC3. One of the members of their ruling council was Krazus also known as Korialstrasz, the prime consort of the red dragon queen Alexstrasza. The leader is now Rhonin, Krazus former apprentice. The city of Dalaran have been transported to Northrend to wage war against the blue dragonflight.

Krasus took Rhonin as an apparentice after the events described in the book "The Day of the Dragon".In the same book the Kirin Tor had not have a leader only a council of the mages most worthy of the membership.(because as I remeber they were not the strongest)

As they said in the comments on that page, you can get it at Friendly reputation.

Do I read this right, that Horde can get about twice as much rep for these guys from quests as Alliance? Or are there some Alliance quests that Wowhead has not yet picked up?

Pretty sure horde's turn locations are different, but the quests should be the same.

-Dailies (Cooking): Each awards 1(-2) Cooking tokens, and 150 rep.

Mustard Dogs – (4) Rhino Dogs (Rhino Meat x 4) / (4) Wild Mustard from Dalaran Courtyard, turn in to Archmage Pentarus (at Dalaran Flight point 69, 41).

Sewer Stew – (4) Chilled Meat / (4) Crystalsong Carrots from Crystalsong Forest (26, 40), turn in to Ajay Green (in Dalaran Inn Sewers).

Cheese for Glowergold – 1 Cheese (One More Glass – 53, 33) / 6 Half Empty Wine Glasses from around Dalaran, turn in to Ranid Glowergold @ 36, 28.

Convention at Legerdemain – (12) Northern Stew (Chilled Meat x 12) / 1 Jug of Wine (One More Glass – 53, 33), turn in to Arille Azuregaze (48, 38) – awards 2 tokens.

Infused Mushroom Meatloaf – (2) Chilled Meat / (4) Infused Mushrooms from Dalaran Sewers, turn in to Orton Bennet (Curiosities and Moore – 52, 55).

If you don't really need anything from any faction I'd recommend using the Kirin Tor tabard to get to exalted - most if not all vendors in Dalaran are part of the Kirin Tor, and personally Dalaran is where I find myself repairing the most. An exalted discount would definitely not hurt.

There are four factions in WOTLK that you can gain rep with from wearing their tabard (purchased from the faction's quartermaster at friendly reputation) while doing level 80 instances. All the four factions have a few epic rewards, a bunch of blue ones, and two types of head enchants - one with resistance/stamina and one with stats (listed below). These four factions are as follows:

Kirin Tor - Spelldmg/Crit
The Wyrmrest Accord - Spelldmg/mp5
Knights of the Ebon Blade - AP/Crit
The Argent Crusade - Stam/Def

I had a problem with the Kirin Tor because for some reason I couldnt even get to friendly rep to even get the tabard..
If you are in the same position make sure you do the quests in Borean Tundra at Amber Ledge, they will give you enough rep to get to friendly so you can get the tabard and start using it in instances!

Kirin: The Qilin, also spelled Kylin, or Kirin (Japanese and Korean) is a mythical hooved Chinese chimerical creature known throughout various East Asian cultures, and is said to appear in conjunction with the arrival of a sage. It is a good omen that brings rui ("serenity" or "prosperity"). It is often depicted with what looks like fire all over its body. (Hence the Arcanum of the Flame's Soul, Arcanum of Burning Mysteries, Flameheart Spell Scalpel, Fireproven Gauntlets and Robes of the Crackling Flame)

This is definetely the first reputation im grinding to exalted on my druid! What with the helm, the cloak, the arcanum, the dagger, the belt, and the robe, this reputation is a boomkin's dream come true. And if i decide to go feral, i have that staff and pants =)

Note that there are five different factions which which you can gain reputation by killing things in level 80 dungeons (don't forget the Horde Expedition or the Alliance Vanguard). However, they all have solo daily quests that award substantial reputation...except for the Kirin Tor, which has only a small amount of solo repeatable reputation, and only if you have the trade skill.

As such, if you want reputation with the Kirin Tor, you should always wear its tabard when in a level 80 dungeon. The other reps...you can get without needing to put together a group.

I think its worth noting that rep with the Kirin Tor lowers the cost of the Exotic mounts sold in dalaran. It saves you a pretty penny if ur at exalted. I dont remember exactly but im honored and i think the mammoth costs me around 18,000g. So 2k gold cheaper at honored... exalted must be much lower

To shine some more light on the leadership of the Kirin Tor:

Rhonin is listed as the leader of the Kirin Tor, making him the head leader of the Council of Six, the ruling council of the Kirin Tor Along with him he has Modera (being the one who has been in the council longest) and Aethas Sunreaver(persumably, his name has given name to the Sunreavers Sunctuary, the Hordepart of Dalaran, there are some minor speculations if he is Kael'thas in disguise... The allaround joke about Kael'thas being constantly ressurected).
Ansirem Runeweaver, the former leader whom preceded Antonidas after Arthas killed him during the Seige of Dalaran and whom Rhonin succeeded. He can be found by the Crater of Dalaran in the Alterac Mountains.

Former members include but is not limited to; Antonidas, Kel'Thuzad, Drenden, Ansirem Runeweaver, Kael'thas Sunstrider and Korialstrasz in his humanform Krasus. It is unclear if Krasus still holds a place of power within the Kirin Tor, him being friend with Rhonin causes him to atleast have an official part in the ruling, especially concerning the Blue Dragonflight and Malygos.

Noteable members and former members of the Kirin Tor (who has not been mentioned yet) are Jaina Proudmoore, Nielas Aran, Vargoth, Khadgar and Arugal.

For a mage faction, this sure is important to paladins.

The Arcanum of Burning Mysteries, Shroud of Dedicated Research, and Girdle of the Warrior Magi are all excellent pre-raid pieces for Holy paladins. The arcanum is, in fact, must-have, and the belt is arguably pre-raid best-in-slot.

Holy Paladins hitting the dungeons will want to grind this faction to Revered as soon as possible to get these items. The legions of Blood Elf jewelcrafter paladins created with the release of the Burning Crusade will want to continue all the way to Exalted, when they get the extremely valuable Design: Runed Scarlet Ruby, with the very solid Fireproven Gauntlets for their tanking off-set thrown in as a nice little bonus.

If you are about 100 rep short to reach the next reputation level with Kirin Tor, and you are out of dailies/quests...

Go to Utgarde Pinnacle, kill the 13 non elite skeletons on the sides, it yields 2 rep per, a total of 26rep, run out, reset, and you can get 100 rep easy. That way you don't have to wait another day.

To make finding the quests I needed to pick up easier, I did a little filtering:

Sorted by Database > Quests > Northrend
-Increases reputation with... Kirin Tor
--and then sorted by required level so I know when I can pick up each quest as I level.

In patch 3.2, reputation discounts will apply to flying mounts, and Hira Snowdawn is a member of the Kirin Tor, which (hopefully) means that if you're exalted with the Kirin Tor, you will receive a pretty big discount.

The Kirin Tor seem to like alcohol. In japenese, Kirin means Beer, So it's technically "Beer Tor". I've also seen the wine vendor, and wine on every table. I wonder If the Kirin Tor started out as a wine-tasting club.

I haven't done them in a few weeks, but if I recall correctly, some of the quests in Kirin'var in Netherstorm now give you some Kirin Tor reputation. When my Rogue gets up high enough to go there, I'll double check by not doing anything in Dalaran until I finish Netherstorm and then checking Kirin Tor reputation.

It appears that as of 3.3, the cooking dailies in Dalaran give 195 rep with Kirin Tor (for non-humans). I don't see why they couldn't just make it 250, but every little bit helps, I guess.
