Definitely one of the contenders for Plate look-alike for any Mail-wearing class who wants to look that bit beefier.
Another favourite of mine for this purpose is Ironhide Mail, but one thing generally goes for both of them: drop the helm.
Both aren't really that pretty nor significant. The Ironhide's Helmet is rather clumsy and the Ornate one is more like a circlet than a heavy helmet.

This set uses the Silver version of the "B4 Plate" artwork, one of a number of mail sets that use plate skins. It forms six pieces of a seven-piece set of the art.

Unfortunately there aren't any shoulders available that use the proper artwork and colour for this set. The "Ornate" ones use unrelated art for some reason, and so aren't listed here. For such a beautiful set, it's a real shame that the proper shoulders aren't available. In fact none of the sets that use the three colours of this artwork (see below) use the proper shoulder art.

Like many older sets, there actually isn't any headpiece artwork. While there is a "Ornate" headpiece, it uses unrelated artwork and so also isn't listed here.

There are only two other colour variants of this artwork in the database and both are available as sets, see:

For Hunters who want a nice match for weapons, I've mogged the Sonic Spear and Ironfeather Longbow with this set, and I've actually gotten many compliments on it.

Elmo delle Profonde Profondità (silver/yellow) and Corona del Fulmine (silver/blue), along with other recolors of the Ten Storms shaman tier helm, are excellent alternatives for the helm.

Paraspalle della Stirpe Nera and other shoulders that share the same model and color scheme. try Spalletti dei Guscioaureo if you are looking for a bit of contrast - it's not too bad.

If you're like me and really want this set but the prices on AH are just crazy, never fear the gear farming is not as painful as you might think! Below is how I easily farmed this full set, as well as others, in less than a fortnight.

1. Download NPCScan
2. Manually enter the following rare NPC IDs (***Please note that the most recent versions of NPCscanner now has these listed, just double check them before you start, just in case but if you have the most recent NPCscan you shouldn't have to add a thing.) Again just in case these are the key ("key" because they have the highest drop rate of this gear) NPCs to find:

* HUNTER PETS. Before you kill please at least do a full /who (include lvl85.) 90% of the time you'll be the only one in the zone anyway but some of these pets are still highly sort after. If there is a hunter just ask them 'are you here to tame a pet' if they say yes ask which one, if it's the one you've spotted do the kind thing and tell them (that NPC will respawn again in a few hours) if they say no the NPC is all yours.

(Yes there are some more new rares in these areas now BUT the ones above still have the highest drop rate and I've yet to score a ornate piece from any of the new mobs, so sure kill them if you come across them but it's not a issue if they are not there to kill.)

3. Plot your best route that covers Winterspring, Un'Goro Crater, Silithus, Burning Steppes, Swamp of Sorrows & Blasted Lands.

4. Do a full sweep of each zone, killing these specific NPCs when you get the scan alert. When you finish the route exit the game clear the cache and do it again. Make sure you clear your cache after every lap, you need to be fully out of the game, not just on the character screen. You'll be surprised at how many NPCs you killed are up again on your second lap.

5. In Blasted lands the rares drop either Sfera di Draenetista Perfetta or Frammento di Draenetista Imperfetto. Always turn these into Kum'isha il Collezionista as the rewards are containers that contain 1-2 armour pieces (the blue also gives you a blue armour or weapon.)

I do this and within a fortnight I have the full set for : Ornate, Templar, Abjurer's, Mystical, Swashbuckler's, Wanderer's, Councillor's & Heavy Lamellar as well as most parts for Engraved, Lord's, Gothic Plate, Revenant & Emerald Plate sets.

Give it a go.

I got this set on my hunter, it took about a week to get all the pieces. I killed all the rares in Blasted Lands, Swamp of Sorrows, and Silithus daily to get all the pieces but it was so worth it. I paired it with Phalanx Cloak, ~~Kiril, Fury of Beasts (LFR version matches better),~~ (as hunters no longer use melee weapons) and Ironfeather Longbow. Loque'nahak and albino drake also match very well.

EDIT: I'd also like to add, that I only went to these places once a day, I didn't farm ever couple hours like some people.

I've kitted my hunter out with this set, minus the helm. I've been trying to get Elmo delle Profonde Profondità off of Calcarovina, but for now I'm using Elmo del Gladiatore Selvaggio from BRD. The blue on that doesn't quite fit, but the silver and gold are just about perfect color matches for the rest of the set, and it fits the overall plate feel of the set. For my weapons, I'm using Bastone del Nucleo Ghiacciato and Verdetto.

I've also added Insegna della Crociata d'Argento. It looks really good with the set and covers up that exposed midriff. Then I've also added Doppiopetto di Sepulcra. It covers those bare biceps with black metal plating. It looks really good and the black in the pair give the set a little bit of a darker look, which I like. If you don't prefer tabards, the breastplate is going to leave some of the purple from the shirt showing, so you may want to use Camicia Gialla or Doppiopetto Filigranato d'Oro instead. It looks a little weird, but it's probably better than purple. I've tried other shirts, but the whites are too light and the grays are too dark. (I know that doesn't make sense considering I've gone with a black one, but it's because it looks plated rather than just a matte cloth. Just trust me and look at the ensemble. Tell me that doesn't look good.)
I'm currently using a staff, but I realize that alot of other equally dashing hunters maybe be using polearms (until MoP anyway), and I have the perfect match for them: Alabarda della Desolazione, It's actually even better than my staff. Same for Sganciarazzi Semovente X-54 as the ranged weapon. If you don't mind (or have a way to turn off) gun sounds, the silver and gold accents compliment the armor perfectly.

MoP EDIT: I've switched out a couple of the ornate armor pieces (The shoulders, chest, and belt) in favor of the pieces from the Azure Serpent Set. Also, I got a new gun that perfectly compliments the outfit: Valvola della Pressione di Yan-Zhu. As a bonus, unlike a lot of guns and crossbows, it actually looks good stowed on your back. It kinda looks like a fancy sword. And now, obviously, the melee weapon can be disregarded. So here's the new ensemble, with included alternates for the shirt and gun.

Best place to farm the whole set is the rare spawns in Blasted Lands. They spawn every couple of hours and I was able to farm 2 full sets and so many extra chest and leg pieces that I cornered the market on my server for them. I got at least one piece off of all of them. Also they drop the reddish version as well, but those pieces don't drop as frequently

I'm using this set on my Shammy- a female Drae with white skin and hair. (Everything looks striking on a snow colored toon, lol.) The clunky ornate shoulders looked horrible on a female, so I went with Golden Scale Shoulders. I'm also watching AH for Grunt's Pauldrons, which have a blue feather/gold look. For shammies, there is also an Ornate Shield that goes well with the set.

If you're assembling this for your hunter, Arco Composito di Titanio fits nicely.

I disagree, greatly. Lohn'goron, Arco dei Cuorespino goes with it much better. :P

Unfortunately, I do not like the helm and have yet to find one to suit it. :(

I just put together this set for my Blood Elf hunter. It looks great with her long white hair. I can't decide which staff to use, as it's kind of ruined by the green glow of my enchantment. For my ranged weapon I might go grab Sganciarazzi Semovente X-54. Arco del Falco del Fuoco Celeste and Cannone Monomano dell'Iratruce also look pretty good with this set, and they're both easy to farm.

For my shaman I use a dagger (PVP) and a shield and Pugnale di Cristalli di Giada is absolutely gorgeous with this set, I think.
You get it from Magister's Terrace and it drops so frequently that I have had heaps of them. Great considering you have a chance at Globo dei Sin'dorei, the FoS mount and best companion in the game too.

On my hunter, i used a blue cape, bow and tabard. Cappa dello Squalo Demoniaco
and for a bow Cacciaragni delle Cripte
and my tabard: Insegna del Freddo
because those items are blue, my entire outfit is a blue, gold, and silver color.
(sorry i dont know how to actually link the items themselves, i tired several different things but couldnt figure it out so you lazy people gotta go to the links i gave xD)

If you're looking for less bulky shoulders than the set shoulders, Jazeraint Pauldrons are a nice alternative.

If you're looking for a matching staff, Solstice Staff has the exact shades of gold and silvery-blue as the armor.

The best shoulders for this set have to be Spallacci di Scaglie di Drago del Contendente -- It's a PERFECT match.

I also like to wear Benda per Occhio Feroce for the head piece and I switch out the legs for Gambali Corazzati del Protegginubi

For my hunter I match the chest, legs and belt of this set with:

Shoulder: Spallacci di Scaglie di Drago del Contendente Perfect match!
Hands: Guanti di Scaglie di Drago del Contendente Quite similar to the set gloves but a bit "upgraded" on the ornate side.
Feet: Calzari Trionfanti I choose these instead of the set boots just because I think they look better on my worgens human form.
