This is possibly the most infamous quest in the entire game. Most people choose this as their least favorite, due to it's difficulty and the relatively poor rewards. That said, a warlock will have an easiser time with this due to Underwater Breathing...

The two ships can be found at 39, 28. You have to pick up Mist Veil's Lockbox from the ship lying on its side before Silver Dawning's Lockbox will spawn in the other ship.

Both lockboxes can be opened from the outside of the ship. Just stand behind the ship and move your cursor around until you find the box.

I strongly recommend you have an aquatic form for this quest. If you do not have an aquatic form, then at least group up. I attempted this with groups several times, without success. I eventually did it solo, but only with aquatic form.

Regardless of which lockbox you attempt first, you will have to enter the ship to open it. I couldn't open the lockboxes from the outside.

1st Lockbox - Ship closest to Auberdine. Enter through a hole in the north side of the ship. The lockbox will be to your right on the same level.

2nd Lockbox - Ship on it's side. Enter from the top level and fight your way down. Murlocs are everywhere, and you will have to kill all of them as you. This is not an easy swim, even with aquatic form. You will have to go to the very bottom of the ship to find the lockbox. By the time you make your way to the bottom, the Murlocs will most likely be back.

Elixir of Water Breathing can be very helpful on this quest if you are not a druid and are typically inexpensive.

Note: Shaman (lvl 22) and Warlocks (lvl 16) have buffs that allow underwater breathing if you find one in the area.

For me, the boxes were near the aft (rear) of the ships. Come in about center of the back side of the ship. You should be able to locate the boxes from outside.

I reckon it's much safer to do this quest with a water breathing buff than not. If a murloc aggros on you and you're halfway out of breath, there's a good chance you won't make it to the surface. Try to acquire a cheap water breathing potion or get a buff cast on you. In my case I just spammed trade politely for a "reasonably priced" potion and someone mailed it to me for free.

In reply to favre, the lockboxes are definitely at the bottom (ie. in the bottom-most deck) of both ships (one box in each).

I just tried this as a 17 druid. I could not get the chest from the outside. I double checked by going inside first to see exactly where it was. I was not allowed to unlock from outside the ship. Must be a fix.

In the last patch, virtually nothing could be selected through walls or typical pathing blockers. This has been identified as a bug and is expected to be fixed soon.

Then again, it's Blizzard. Could be a couple years.

Just completed as a level 15 druid. Only 'needed' to kill 3 murlocks at each location to reach box. Grabbing aggro from the murlock and then swimming to the surface was the best method for me since I did not have my aquatic form nor did I have potions. Both boxes are at the very bottom of each boat. You'll find the boats somewhere near 40,27. These are not exact coords, but if you stand there, you will see the boats. :)

A few tips:
1) Kill the murlocks quickly. When they reach around 5-10% health, they "run in fear." About 95% of the time they bring a friend back with them. :)
2) The Greymist Seers like to heal themselves, but are very squishy.

As the bug was fixed, I had to find the chests on my own. Both boats have a gaping hole on their bottom sides. Go in those, then swim the length of the boat. You'll find the chests at the opposite end as the hole.

I couldn't do this in one swim, as I needed to clear out blockers and I didn't have a water breathing buff on me.

I honestly dont understand why this quest is considered a lvl 17 Quest. I did it easily at 13. And Im not some well skilled WOW pro. And no I didnt click thru the walls.

I just did this on me 23 priest and I drowned each time I went after a chest. I couldn't target them through the walls of the ship, and each time I went inside close to the chest I got a murloc on me. This quest is still a pain if you ask me.

Murlocs don't know the ships are there, they swim thruohg the walls and decks of the boat. I don't know the boxes are there, swam inside and outside the boats and didn't "SEE" the lockboxes. I'll go back and try again with cursor on outside of boats and see if it works.

Just did this quest as a 19 priest. I'm an alchemist, so I had an elixir of water breathing. I got Mist Veil's lockbox first, and it was glowing. however, when I was looking for Silver Dawning's lockbox, it wasn't glowing at all. It's kind of hidden in the water, as it matches up with the boat. It's at the very back of the boat on the bottom level.

After a long searching (30 mn in druid aquatic form) throug the boat I also found both items at the bottom level to the rear of boats. They were barely visible.

Certainly easy for a rogue with a water breathing potion, stealth swim, and sap, but most interesting was that the first box I picked up, Silver Dawning, had the "quest item sparkles." But not the second one, Mist Veil, so I wandered inside the ship aimlessly for a while. I see from the above that others have had the opposite experience. Could just be a minor bug.

No matter what, having a bunch of water breathing potions (in case you die) is essential for this quest.

this is tested. 25% of the time when being chased by murlocks in underpart of ship run into wall behind box until murlocks stop attacking leaving you free to brag box

also i have the mist veil's lockbox in the southern ship as the first one, i checked the northern one for the other box as suggested and it wasn't there, maybe it's random and always appears on the southern ship first...

I did this quest as a level 15 priest. Regardless of what class you are, this is a very easy quest. I swam through the windows in the bottom of both of the ships, killed two murlocs, and looted the chests. Not hard at all. No breathing potions or breathing buffs either. Whoever said this was voted the most annoying quest pre-TBC...wow. I found having to run back and forth from Darnassus to Lake Al'ameth more annoying than this.

The quickest way to get down to the remains is to use the X key on the keyboard. I've looked all over, and on several sites, and no one has mentioned that for diving down into the water.

Yes, a very easy quest for a Level 15 Warrior. Swim down, go through the windows on the first boat and the hole in the second, kill some murlocs, get some breath, loot boxes...

Very, very easy.

Just go to the bottom of the ships. Both have gaping holes you go through, fight 1 or 2, then get the boxes. Its easy seeing as how you on;y confront lvl 11-13

This quest is a lot easier now that you can stay underwater for longer before your breath runs out. Underwater time seems to have been buffed in 3.0.2.

Not sure if that's a bug but I took the time to search the ship from top to bottom 5 times. It was not there unless it has some ludicrously long respawn timer.

Easy quest. if u go carefully, u want have to kill more than 3 murlocs. there at the bottom of the ships. if ur a warlock just cast the unending breath. if not just get up for a breath after each ship

Rogues, you can complete this quest without killing a single creature. Just stay stealthed and head to the bottom of both ships through the holes in the hull. Neither lockbox has mobs immediately near it. I was able to pick up the box and re-stealth without detection. I did it in two swims to be safe. Even so, the quest took no more than 5 minutes to complete, if that. It may also be helpful to note that I am a level 13 untalented rogue with poor, broken gear and no equipped weapons (my character Victorie does not slay any creature but dragons -- ever -- so she keeps her weapons unequipped most of the time). If she can do it, so can you!

Due to the amount of adventurers senselessly killed by this awful quest, in Cataclysm a new plot is set up for you to send in a robot that blows up and kills all of the stinking murlocs instead. Very satisfying to finally have your revenge!

My favorite quest! even pre-BC. Brings back so many memories. idk why so many people thought it was so annoying, your breath timer rarely runs low, though i can sympathize with the high level murlocs.

I remember when I first did it, it was too hard so I promised myself I'd come back a few levels later for it. came back as a 16 druid, and had just gotten the then-rare(ish) aquatic form. I was new then, and it was awesome to me to just run in, kill the murlocs and proceed in aqua form.

You answered your own question. It was annoying because you'd get the quest at level 13 and by the time you were dead you realized that you were fighting higher level mobs. If all the spawns were up, you would accidentally pull more than you could handle, especially as a new player. And just try getting away while swimming dazed. Plus, with the general frustration of the limitations of swimming coupled with the cramped spaces, having to watch your breath meter which went down way faster back then, lack of sparklies to make it obvious where the chests were, the associated corpse runs...

That quest was like surgery. It was definitely easier for some classes to solo than others.

I always made myself do it, but I didn't really enjoy it.

Descrizione

Off the coast of Darkshore to our north are two wrecked ships - the Silver Dawning and the Mist Veil. Some time ago, both ships ran afoul of the blasted murlocs as they sailed across the vast sea into Auberdine. They now lie at the bottom of the ocean as trophies for those fiends.

Both captains didn't make it out that night, and their logs and other effects are still below in lockboxes. I'd like for you to recover them for us; it would mean a lot to the crew members still around these parts.
