We completed this quest with a group of four lvl 70s: two feral druids (tank-bear and cat), a beast mastery hunter for Tranquilizing Shot, and a holy priest. The fight against Maws was very easy; guess it would be possible to do it with just a tank and a healer.

~36 hours after you complete the quest, you'll receive a letter with 100 gold from Narain Soothfancy. Message reads as follows:

Champion,

The Blue Dragonflight believes that you are fated for greater things than even I could predict.

Despite what some would have you believe, our world needs heroes. In your darkest hour, when you face the blight of Kalimdor, recall the epic journies, trials, and tribulations that you undertook for an old gnome and let those memories lift your spirits.

After defeating Maws a world yell will appear stating "The beast returns from whence it came. The wrath of Neptulon has subsided." This is heard in old world and Outlands.

Yes, you can do all the quests but "Bang a Gong!". The reward is having done the prolly best quest chain in the game; so if you like a good story, do it :)

Yeah, just a note, this guy has 1.1 million life--I didn't look it up before I attempted him, so he kind of kicked my ass, even as an 80 hunter. Bring your t5 2set if you plan on soloing him! Or, you know, a healer.

Whoever soloed him as a shadow priest is a lot better than me!.... L80 5500gs.
DPS was healing me and I had a shield up whenever weakened soul dropped. It seemed ok for about 300k health and then Maws hit enrage and hits like a very angry shark... I think I could have just lived through it but it would have required a pot and then would have died on the 2nd enrage.

Save yourself some repair bills and bring a friend, it's a short ride from Org afterall

Very easy as a DK.

Even though I was mostly 264/277 geared. Maws is very easy.

Did it in roughly 4 minutes, used a tank spec, and DPS.

Just be on the save side, I even equipped 2 tank trinkets (Satrina's/Corroded Key), but that WAS NOT even needed. My health never went below 90%.

Just a small tip. He swims really slow. So if you're ranged you can easily just shoot him down with instants whilst strafe kiting him in a big circle. Granted i could throw a few heals as balance, but once i started the strafing he barely hit me at all.

Alright since it took me 2 hours to actually find this "maelstrom"
I decided to take a picture of the exact location, it will be uploaded after this post.
Keep in mind that most likely this quest won't be available when Cataclysm hits us.

Soloed as shadow priest easily at 80.
No need to kite, just stand and nuke.

[Did I mention the bad news yet? Its name is Maws: 100 feet of death and destruction. I guess I may have forgotten that little tidbit.

According to my superior psycho-psionic clairvoyance, you'll find that the best spot to cast this buoy is off the coast of Azshara, in the Bay of Storms.

Look for a swirling maelstrom, most likely cluttered with wreckage.

By the by, I hope you have friends.

Now if you somehow miraculously succeed, take the scepter shard to Anachronos.]
