this is essential for all level 60 mages. it probably should have been listed with the mage quests, too.

you take the quest form DM library, accessable from west and north instances but the quest NPC, Hydrospawn, is in the east instance and is immune to frost.

It is indeed an essential mage quest. Luckily the Hydrospawn you need to kill is a very easy to kill and easily accessible mob. You (the mage) and two level 60 friends should be able to dispatch the Hydrospawn without too much trouble. I was able to kill it playing a friend's T2 rogue along with my mage friend's help.

This is now trainable in patch 2.0.1. The only reason to do this quest now is to avoid the training cost. Ultimately not worth it.

I was exploring Dire Maul with my 70 mage, when I was surprised to find that this quest rewards you with 11g40s at level 70. So it is still worth doing today. :-)

Hydrospawn can quite easily be soloed.

This quest gives 500 reputation with Shen'dralar nowadays, i just completed it so i know =).

The fastest way to get to him is to go into Dire Maul East and jump down into the garden (you may want to use slow fall). Go to the south-east corner of the garden (dodging the wandering adds) and in the doorway.

Hydrospawn is in the pool just in the doorway.

Just finished this quest and awarded me with 500 rep with Shen'dralar,maybe blizzard changed it.

Hmmm...it would seem that the changes made in 4.0.1 to conjure food/water (now just refreshment) have made this quest impossible to complete. it's still there, as is the boss u have to kill, but i just cant complete it.

Venture to the Warpwood Quarter and extract a portion of the elemental essence of the Hydrospawn. Return it to me and I shall teach you a useful cantrip.
