The prereq quest is The Final Piece, given by the log that drops from the High Chief: http://www.wowhead.com/?quest=5123

For 59 twinks wanting a new patch 2.3 trinket, killing the chief gives you 1360 xp (incl. rested bonus), turning in The Final Piece is 4650, and this quest for a 59 rewards 9300: total of 15310 xp. You avoid any extra xp by not killing the chief's shaman friend (which is trivial now) and by not turning in the High Chief Winterfall quest.

Upon some further investigation it looks like you have to be on the quest to kill this guy to get the Log to drop, and this is the end of a chain. Tried killing him without being on the quest but no Log dropped. This is a problem for 59 twinks who haven't done the chain previously.

Have I missed something?

Do note, you will get a mail from Kelek Skykeeper for the translation of the book http://www.wowhead.com/?item=13158

You do not need the book to turn in the quest.. it's trash and SAFE to delete the book (mail)

In order to get the Item that starts the quest from High Chief Winterfall you have to complete the questline involving killing him first.

I deleted the book, upon reading that it was safe to do here, and found you DO need the book to get the reward. I tried killing him again to get it and he's not dropping it anymore. Just to be safe DON'T delete it until after you get the reward.

I did this quest before patch 2.3.

I got the translated book in the mail and had it in my bank for a loooong time.

Am I just S.O.L. on the trinket? The spell damage one is still worthwhile even at higher levels (there are a few similar items in Outland which also have a "Use" that boosts healing and or spell damage, but this is still decent).

I just completed this quest today, this quest has definitely not been removed. I was actually quite shocked at the trinket rewards for this level, I will be doing this quest line on all of my alts from now on!

[The Winterfall are no longer a threat to me, but if you still want to find out what was driving the furbolg to create and consume this strange firewater, I think you should seek out Kelek Skykeeper.

He is part of a group known as the Emerald Circle, druids that are committed to their work in Felwood, healing the land from the corruption.

Kelek has much experience with the furbolgs in Felwood, and may be able to tell you more about the log.
