Easiest tactic to kill this level 56 elite is as follows.

Clear all the top level of Fire plume Ridge. When engaging, run straight to the back of the cave, he will follow. This will ensure you do not get knocked off the cliffs with his ability as your inside.

Once at the back of the cave, use the rod to remove his almost invincible aura. Nearly all forms of crowd control work here, frost nova, fear, stun. Make sure he never receives his aura back, and it should be either solable or in a group of 2.

Although this chain is quite long, many people don't realize it's all just a tribute to the Legend of Zelda. Link's Master Sword a.k.a. Linken's Master Sword and other parts of this quest are all remeniscent of the Zelda franchise. Blizzard's little fun game of "guess what we're referencing." :)

Took down Blazerunner before we got the quest to kill him with a 54 and 56 shaman. One tanked/DPSed while the other healed, and he went down within a minute.

Later, we came back and trashed him with the shield-killer item you get from the quest to kill him. He went down FAST.

Keep your back to the inside of the cave, or if you can't get past him, pick the mountain wall next to his cave on the left if you're looking towards the inside. He'll bounce you up a bit, but if you're relatively quick to react, you should have no trouble.

Note that the reward for this quest, the Linken's Boomerang (http://www.wowhead.com/?item=11905) is a great item for Paladins, as it gives them a viable pulling tool if they don't have Holy Shock.

I found an easy way to get to Blazerunner by killing one or two elementals max.

1) Go to 47, 52
2) There's a cliff, you need to pass to its right. Try to jump, you may have a little trouble here, but it shouldn't take long.
3) Go to 47, 49
4) There's another cliff, but it's easy to climb.
5) Finally, go to 48, 49
6) Another cliff, also easy.

You should be right next to Blazerunner. Though, you won't aggro him if you pay attention. I suggest you to run in the cave like mikedoh said.

If you don't kill him fast, you may have to cast the spell to remove his aura. I figured it out after two deaths :p

With the help of the above comments i soloed Blazerunner as a 57 Frost Mage.

Mana shield, Ice Barrier and Fire Ward up before you run in.
Wait about 10 seconds so the spells can be ready when the initials run out. I think Dampen Magic also helps here.

I basically just ran in and summoned my water elemental, used the totem and Frost Novad the guy where he was, moved to the back of the cave and nuked him. Try and always keep your shields up, and have your mana gem handy. I used cold snap and summoned my elemental again, and repeated the strategy. With the time it took for me, i had to use the totem a second time.

Killed him on second try, and didnt have any health pots.

As a 56 DW Enhancement Shaman with not bad gear, soloing this guy was impossible. I got him to about 25%, after which he regained his aura and I was screwed. That was the best I could do before giving up after 4 attempts.

He hits for around 300-400 every hit, and with 3k total HP and mail gear, you don't last long. I recommend finding one other person to help you with this.

Soloed as a 56 rogue. Just used Evasion when i was at 50% health, then used a major healing pot and adrenaline rush.
Also used a thistle tea at the very beginning of the fight just to Slice and Dice asap, and a mechanical yeti! :)

Solo'd this earlier as a 54 affliction lock. It'll be rough if you're a class w/o any form of CC, as he can hit pretty hard. I just chain feared and kept all my DoT's and my VW on him. The VW eventually died, but I was able to stay alive w/ the help of a healthstone. Good chunk of XP for this whole line, as annoying as it was flying all over Kalimdor.

just solo'ed as a lvl 55 frost mage had to use coldsnap for the extra frost nova and ice barrier though but just using the water elementals frost nova twice plus mine pretty stopped most damage, as well as frost barrier and fire ward other than that it was pretty easy just using frostbolt although i had to pop a mana pot to keep my mana up

Soloed this as 55 boomkin. Pulled with anti-shield-thingie, threw in treants, IS and SF until treants died (Aquementas at 40% or so), then roots and nukes until dead. Didn't get hit once, 2/5k mana left, no pots or innervate used.

Very pie-like in terms of simplicity.

Just soloed Blazerunner as a 54 Warlock. With his force-shield protecting him, I sent in my voidwalker to attack, ran through to the back of the cave, used the staff to disable his shield, health-funneled my VW, tossed on dots, then sacrificed the voidwalker when he was nearly dead. I let Blazerunner take a few swings at me (with my back to the wall) then feared him. While feared, I summoned my imp, dark pacted twice, reapplied dots, and let him run wild as I feared him again, reapplying dots and/or lifedraining as needed.

Never dropped below 75% health. I don't see melee classes doing this so simply, unless you're burning your cooldowns and you're buffed up on potions and backups.

Best of luck though, this is a fun quest and it's definitely worth seeing through to the end.

Soloed Blazerunner as a 54 shadow priest. Stayed out of shadowform... Opening cast sequence:

Bubble
Vamp Touch
Vamp Embrace
Dispel Blazerunner Aura
SW: Pain
Fear

Then alternated Mind Flay and Mind Blast. The first time you get the urge to cast a heal, fear and then bandage instead. Makes the difference at the end of the fight when you're low on mana.

Solo'ed as a level 55 Beast Master hunter.

1. Freeze trap
2. Pet sic
3. Totem
4. Bestial Wrath -> Intimidation
5. Shots and Mend Pet
6. Pull pet back when it gets near death, mob runs into freeze trap
7. Mend and bandage your pet
8. Repeat from step 2.

Very easy. Don't forget the chest at the back of his cave.

Was a little harder than i thought... long quest. Any way got there with after a lev 66 dwarf finshed with it has about a 10 minute spawn time MAKE SURE TO TAKE OFF IT BARRIER THING!

Soloed as 54 Affli warlock. Easy fight if you don't forget to renew that aura-removing thigie. Died once since forgot about that -> he recovered -> nuked me badly.

Done like this:
Felhunter go + Unstable Affli while he's running to the sucker
Siphon life
remove aura
curse of agony
corruption
Death Coil
Fear
Life tap
renew what's missing
fear
life tap
drain life
...
shake, rinse, repeat.

And yes, felhunter is best pet for this fight. Imp simply useless, succy dies too fast, VV useless. And felhunter live long enough and do some additional DPS that is also good.

Level 61 paladin: solo, died twice before I finally finished. This is what I did.

I had the Silver Totem of Aquementas on hotbar. I used a sword and shield. (If you use a two-hander, you will NOT arm the totem if you click on the hotbar icon.) You WILL need to re-arm the totem at least twice if you're solo.

Keep in mind this is not how you HAVE to do it. This is simply how I FINALLY did this.

(My advice is this: Drink a combat potion immediately before engaging Blazerunner. Add any enhancements to your weapon and shield. Have a high level healing and/or mana potion ready, preferably on hotbar. Make sure buffs are up and not about to expire. I strongly recommend rebuffing before the battle. Make sure any and all cooldowns are up.)

Just to make this fight even more difficult, the totem has about a 30-second cooldown if you arm it from the hotbar. It will have no effect on Blazerunner when you click from hotbar; it simply arms and you will wait on the cooldown.

I made sure health and mana bars were full. I buffed Greater Blessing of Might, drank Winterfall Firewater http://www.wowhead.com/?item=12820 (if you spent any time in Winterspring, you should have some) and applied a rune to my shield. I cleared the area immediately around Blazerunner's cave to avoid nasty adds. I summoned the yeti. It didn't aggro anything in the vicinity and didn't run off to find a mob. I armed the totem and waited on the cooldown, keeping Blazerunner in sight. I used my fire protection aura.

I aggroed Blazerunner and used the totem. (Once it's armed, you CAN use it by clicking the hotbar icon.) I switched back to my shield, and the fight was on.

The first thing I did was run past Blazerunner and turn my back to the back of his cave. If I had to pick one thing that means success, THIS IS IT. Otherwise, he's got a strong knockback and will whomp you all over the volcano, into lava, into other mobs, etc., and you'll feel like he's hit you all the way back to Tanaris.

This wasn't an easy fight. When he's not using his fire attack, he's hitting physically, and he's got one hell of a punching arm. I took down maybe 1/4 of his health before I realized I had 1/4 of my health LEFT.

I healed out of it. By this time, his aura was back up. (The aura comes back after about, oh, a minute. Maybe a little less.) Re-armed the totem, waited on cooldown, etc.

The second round went better than the first. Blazerunner seems to get weaker the longer the fight lasts. I managed to take him down to about 1/3 health before I had to bubble out. Here, something interesting happened. While I was bubbled, the yeti seemed to SCARE Blazerunner. Ol' Blaze looked like he was trying to run while the yeti chased him around the cave. Luckily, they don't go far. lol.

Heal, totem, fight. Heal, totem, fight. I popped a mana potion when Blaze and I were finally down to about nothing. I got off a heal. Luckily, I never saw Blaze do the same. At this point, it was pretty much over. I judged Seal of the Crusader on him over and over just to take down his remaining health quickly. I didn't want any nasty surprises. Out of mana but with about half my health, I finished Blaze.

I looted him for vendor trash and a green. (An one-handed axe, I think.) Keep your wits about you because you still need to collect the flame to complete this quest. It's in a chest near the back of the cave. Open, loot, done. Don't discard your totem, either. Link...excuse me, LINKEN wants it back before he gives you your rewards.

You'll get a nice one-handed sword or an off-hand for your troubles. The sword is nice for the level. It also vendors for nice gold if you decide not to keep it.

But the boomerang is what I really wanted. I've got it on my hotbar and just spent some time wandering around Hellfire Peninsula, hitting stuff from range. Just a really neat trinket for all us non-ranged paladin. One day, it could save your life. ;)

Just soloed this quest as an 57 affliction warlock. Funny thing is, i forgot all about his aura and didn't use the totems at all. Fight without totem took me 5 min.
All warlocks should use this strategy.
Start fight with banishing him. Run to back of cave and send in Voidwalker. As soon as banish breaks, DoT him up and health funnel Voidwalker. When Voidwalker is about to die, rebanish use bandages and get Voidwalker topped of again. Rinse and repeat.
Remember i did this without totem. So if you use the totem this fight will be a piece of cake for any Warlock to solo.

Solod this as a 60 warrior. It should be noted I had some BC gear on. 31 fury, 15 protection.

The biggest problem presented when soloing this, is that you lose your off-hand slot. So, here is the trick. Use the totem to dispell his aura, then either fight it out till you die (or better yet kill him), or I guess running would work too. When you come back, you will be out of combat and the aura will still be gone. Just equip your off-hand or shield at that point. Prep and go at him again. I had about 6000 armor, 5000 hp and in defensive stance I only survived with about 130 hp left. Tried a fire protection pot, but those put your healing potions on cooldown. I think the only thing the FR would be good for is his fire shield that hits for 60-70 and a blast wave he does occasionally for 250dmg. He's mainly melee damage and with 6000 armor was hitting me for ~250. So, I elected to go with the healing potion. He didn't use the knockback on me once. So, not sure if I was lucky or if it's gone as of 2.3

I just finished this quest and this may be a bug, but when we were in the back of the cave we couldn't damage him. He could sure hit us but nothing we did was effective. We had to run out of the cave before any of our spells or weapons were effective on him. Wonder if this is something new since the latest patch?

Solo'd with a 57 Feral Druid. Not to hard.

Just clear some fire elementals in the area.

Cast the totem on Blazerunner to remove aura, he should be out of cave now, coming at you. Cast Entangling Roots, and start using Starfire. Continue casting Entangling Roots when it wears off. Use a mana potion, then innervate, then mana potion as needed. If cooldown on potions is not done yet, just keep it back with roots while you wait for potion cool down. Easy stuff.

Very easy to do this, make sure you have the totem equiped and ready to go.

If your pet can stealth do that first before you send him in. Cast Hunters mark on Blazerunner and send your pet in, right before your pet strikes use the totem to remove aura, then cast mend pet, beastial wrath, rapid fire, then go to town, took him out under 30 seconds. He never touched me.

It's important to note that his 'aura' does not show up as a debuff! I made the mistake of fighting him and waiting to look for some kind of aura buff before using the totem. Instead, begin the fight by using the aura-removing totem on him. Fighting in the cave works well. The aura shows up as a king of blue shield around him, as soon as you use the totem this will dissapear and he will attack. From there go all out.

Soloed him as a lvl 60 enhance shammy, and survived with barely 23 hp left, not at all an easy fight.

I can confirm that as of patch 2.3, he STILL uses a knockback, so the above advice about going into the cave to avoid being sent flying is still good. I was unable to solo this as a lvl 56 paladin with mainly blues, even using divine shield and lay on hands. FR is also not very important as most of his damage is physical.
It was no problem however grouped with a same level hunter and I would think pretty much any group of 2 around 55-58 could handle this, although it's obviously easier with a healer.

This guy sucks to solo if you're used to having a shield. 54 Prot Pally, well-geared. I put up fire resist aura, bless might (for quicker kill), and sealed and judged light. I had to pot, and i had about 10 hp left.

I'm guessing an ice mage can tear this guy down no prob.

Please read the above advice about the cooldown on the wand, it may save your life.

Depends on class, but i'm a 57 shadow priest and i can get him to about 25-30% before dying. Hes really hard and fears CD is too long before hes back hitting on you again. After a few tries i just gave up. So yeah, if you don't have tones of CC like other classes, don't try it without 2 people.

Stealthed my way up, and then sneaked my way into the cave. (if you have 5 points in master of deception, it should go smooth if you are careful)

started by cheap shot, using the totem, then evasion, blasting him with sinister strike then eviscerate...after that gouge, backed away, then cast blind on him, giving me the time to use bandage, after that blasted him again with everything i got :) ....used one healing pot in the process, and died twice...glad i'm done with that SOB..

Quest chain, from start to finish for all steps, is worth 82250 xp. It's a good quest to do when the server is busy since you won't have to worry about competing for mobs and such. A lot of travelling though.

Upon completion, not only will you will have recieved 82250 exp like Jeho above me said, but you'll have a sense of accomplishment! I think this is probably one of the top 5 longest chains in the game.

As a 59 warlock I used the fellguard. First clear the ledge of all the mobs, then send it fellguard, dispell his aura. Fear him dot him with your shadow spells and cast drain life. Fear him again if it breaks. My fellhunter did die, but I got him down this way.

Much easier than I first thought when reading these comments. I could easily kill him as a 55 lock. Demonology. I didn't even have to resummon my Felguard. Just fear, dot and spam shadow bolts!

I soloed as a lvl 58 protection Warrior, ..

Cleared the front area, .as i ran to the back of the cave, i used the totem..when i got to the back i equipped my sheild ,, but boy does he pack a punch.. i died ,,boooo!

anyways,,got back ,,rezzed right at the back of the cave ,,grabbed a bit of lunch and applied a lesser ward of sheilding and a lesser rune of warding (my new favourite add ons), his aura was still gone , and i trounced him very easily.

While easy for other classes, this was not very easy on my level 56 Pally (holy). I brought out my tanking gear just in case, to try to give myself a slight advantage in that regard. All it earned me was a huge repair bill. I had no trouble clearing the mobs around the top, but the elite killed me three times before I called it a night. I'll be returning tomorrow with a guild member to help me, I think. My third effort was the most successful, getting him down to 60% health before he killed me. Still, dead is dead.

As 56 warrior, it was pretty easy, I charged in, used the rod, then equipped my offhand and ganked the !@#$ out of him with recklessness on. Used one potion because I have a bit low hp.

Soloed last night as a 57 lock.

Send in VW hit your debuff wand and run back to the back of the cave. Apply all dots and immediately health funnel to keep VW going. Once VW hits about 1k life BANISH! Health funnel VW back to nearly full and you still should have time to bandage back to full. Maybe even eat for a few seconds.

Banish = no "out of range" and no random adds. Keeps the fight inside the cave which is where you want it for safety sake.

He'll come out of banish and almost immediately his aura will come back up (you can tell because he'll get a hurricane of light thing around him). Hit your debuff wand again and re-dot. Re-funnel. Re-banish. Repeat as needed. My second banish still held him for nearly 30 seconds and I still had my cooldowns up for hp pot and healthstone to get my health back up after I refilled VW health.

For good measure at around 600 health I pulled hate, so I sacrificed and took the easy victory.

i know this is probably already mentioned in a previous thread but i found the quest rewards hilarious. linken's sword of mastery? also known as the master sword :) also linkens boomerang which has a proc chance to disarm or stun the opponent? in zelda (ocarina of time) when you used link's boomerang it would usually stun the opponent, flipping them on their back. just thought it was a good reference.

people do NOT make the same mistake i did. if you destroy the silver totem of aquementas before turning it in to linken, you can NOT complete the quest. it has to be abandoned and the quest is bugged. you can reaccept the quest from linken however you will not have the totem meaning you cannot remove his aura much less complete the quest. you also cannot reaccept the part of the quest to get the totem. i had to abandon it after ALL that work so i got no boomerang. however the quest rewards were #$%^ and i still got the xp.

L61 shaman, with good blue L61 weapon at main hand, killed him with selfhealing and healing potion. It's possible to fight him with some important totems.

The punt really messes with you...

Be in the cave.

And if you are a dual wielder the totem has to be in your off hand and you have to use it more than once.

Lvl 57 rogue who couldn't do with two low levels but succeeded with a Lvl 63 hunter helping. Thx.

Don't think about doing this unless you can heal a lot....I was dodging and he was hitting me for 500 damage...Don't last long that way.

This was ridiculously tough, even though it showed up as green for my demonologist (59), I was a minute too late to hook up with a previous group and ended up dying repeatedly solo. After a half-dozen deaths, I had to return to marshall's refuge for repair and more soul shards.

There are a lot of things to remember, the orb to lower his defenses the lava pool does about 600/second if you fall in. After the first death, I ran to the back of the cave and rezzed there repeatedly. I also set up my main weapon (2-handed staff) on action bar so I didn't lose my +24 intellect and +12 stamina. I think I'd have done it on the 2nd try except for that.

I`ve read about this quest a lot here, and u all say that killing Blazerunner was pretty tough, so I prepared for the fight as a 58 balance druid.

But it all came out so easy :) just got him out of the cave, rooted and used moonfire + insect swarm, maybe it took some time and I had to use the scepter twice, but it WAS an easy kill :)

Just want to stress this here, for the melees:

If you believe you can kill him before the totem wears off (However long that is? My guess is a minute, based on the comments-- He didn't last long enough to get his aura back when I tried), for your own sake, either switch to a two-hander or dual-wield. Even if you're not really spec'd for either, if you're melee, you want as much DPS as possible here.

I just managed to solo this as a level 57 prot warrior, using two weapons after using the totem (Note, warriors: Thunder Clap is your friend! While Demoralizing Shout has a minimal effect on his damage, Thunder Clap can decrease damage by up to 1/6, or 1/11 if it's not improved. It still won't stop his casting, though...), and used only one major health potion and Last Stand, no other items or high cooldown skills. I even had 0 fire resistance, sadly.

i don't care what any1 says, this is a great quest chain, the xp alone is fantastic.
started earlier this week and have been looking forward to doing this quest since before i purchased the game! as soon as i hit level 47 i was off to un'goro, dismissing the level of the beasties there!

so anyway, solo'd the first 12 steps starting from level 47, as a combat rogue, and with a couple of quests thrown in from un'goro and felwood (which is a must at this level; to get the rep up for the furbolgs there, or you'll have a cold day in hells chance of getting through the tunnel to winterspring alive!) i finished this at level 49, and recruited the help of my fantastic guild members to help kill blazerunner, as i really wanted that sword!

all in all loved every minute of this quest, prepare to spend many dollar on FPs though as it involves loads of back n forth travelling. the sword looks great too, what a beast!

PS: i have the Master Sword! (cue classic tune of Link receiving an item)

After dying 5x and my sad gorilla getting wasted, I searched thru my bags to see what could help me. I'm a level 59 Orc Hunter with a 58 Gorilla with Thunderstomp 3 (The 55 Un'goro Elite at back of cave).

I tried mana and health pots, I tried Agility and others, but still, I freakin died. Calling on pals to help, I was at a total lost... then it hit me...

I've one last charge of a Mini Yeti I got from the "Are We There Yeti" quest... he was just enough dps with the pet, that I WAS ABLE to beat that FIRE BASTARD!!!

sadly, the pet died for #6, my armor is at %22 but my Yeti is with me and at my side. =o)

Soloing this quest is possible if you have a friend named "Mini" Yeti.

Tips for Warlocks doing this quest:
If your minion's health gets low, just Banish him and use Health Funnel. He hits pretty hard even on a Voidwalker.
Make sure you keep Curse of Agony and Corruption on him; he's immune to Fire, so Immolate's useless. If you're Affliction, throw in Siphon Life and Unstable Affliction to make things easier.

Even with these tips, he's still tough, so you might need a group anyway.

Sololed this as a 58 druid. Pretty easy:
1) Cast regrowth than rejuvenation, than shift to cat.
2) Wait for full energy bar, than use the off hand to dispel the barrier
3) Faerie Fire and Mangle. I powershifted twice, on the second time I ferobited and than used barskin. With Basrkin on I casted Regrowth first and than Rejuvenation, than shifted to bear.
4) Mangle (Bear) till he died.

I was near half life when I decided it was time for barskin. I ended with all life and full rage bar (was using only mangle just in case I had to use frenzied regeneration).

I think a level 56 druid can solo this too, he'll just have to use frenzied regenration and maybe a good pot after that. Probably Barskin willl be up again after that, so another Regrowth + Rejuvenation can be cast safely.
All those heals can probably help the fact that a lvl 56 druid has Mangle rank 1, while at lvl 58 a druid get rank 2.

Effectively soloed as a 58 paladin (my only help was a 51 frost mage who pulled him before I could hit him and then got splattered -_-). I just put up fire resist aura, used JoL/SoL, and beat on him, using the totem as needed. I had to pop a potion, bubble, and gift of the naaru, but all I really had to do was keep my seal and consecrate up and make sure to kill the aura ASAP. He takes a bit of time doing this strategy, but it's better than the alternative of dying repeatedly.

He was knocking me back into the cave, and Blazerunner himself ran to the back of the cave. He had gotten down to 2%, knocked me into a side wall, and as I ran back up to him, he gave me an evade bug and suddenly got back half his health. This evade bug immediately disappeared, and he began to hit me again.

After reading the comments here I decided to try and solo this guy as a 55 combat rogue with good gear (Thrash blade w/goose, patch on legs all BC enchants, 17% crit 24% dodge...) and this is what happened:

Bewildered, I tried again and this time the dice rolled more in my favor and it really wasn't too hard. I actually dodged more than one attack the second fight and wasn't crit to hell, which allowed me to blind/bandage and then pot later in the fight before he finally fell.

So yes he is soloable, but no it's not an easy fight. Use the rod straight away and be mentally prepared with a game plan before engaging and I'd think any mid 50's class with decent gear would have a shot to do this.

this quest chain was so funny.As soon as i saw who i had to turn the pack into,i burst out laughing. the end of the chain took me a while to figure out. i got a 70 guilde to help me, and about ten seconds after i dispelled the aura he died. Quite fun. do it when you have the chance.

Soloed him kinda hard as a 52 BM Dwarf Hunter. Used the totem, changed wepon and sent my pet to attack. Popped BW, Intimidation and mend pet and just stood there spaming steady shot. When my pet died, he was down to 10% health and i popped fire trap and spammed moongoose bite and raptor strike. Used one major health potion, one of the best stroylines i have done, a lot of traveling, though.

I totally forgot about the totem by the time I got to the top of the mountain, so never used it, though I had it equipped on my off-hand. I had been planning on swapping it out for http://www.wowhead.com/?item=9639 to dual wield with http://www.wowhead.com/?item=869. I still killed him with my 57 fury/arms warrior. Someone hopped in and helped kill him though I didn't catch their name/race/class. And like someone stated earlier, make darn certain you're back is to the cave, so you don't get knocked down the side of the mountain. Also, if you need to be in melee range, keep some sort of DoT on him as often as possible, so while you're blown back, he's still being damaged.

Easily Solo'ed as a 56 Frost Mage. Put up Fire Ward, Mana Shield, Ice Barrier, and Summoned my Water Elemental before engaging in battle. Took his shield down, and it was a quick fight from there. Should be an exceedingly asy fight for anyone at or above his level, I solo'ed it as a 53 ret pally (hard for me of course, popped a lay on hands, major healing potion, and bubble healed). The only thing you want to watch out for if your gonna pull him into the back of the cave is a small ledge in the back right corner, if he knocks you onto it then he heals and goes back to the front of the cave for some god aweful reason, he did this to me the first time i tried and i had to wait 20 mins for my lay on hands to cooldown >_<

Ok, so i just made a breakthrough with this quest. I did it on another toon, and again he knocked me onto that little alcove in the back of the cave, but this time when he went back to the front of the cave i simply jumped down and looted the chest! no killing invovled! just let him get you on the alcove and then the cest is all yours, so do this at any level you want!

I find myself editing this again, but it would seem that simply having both items needed to complete the quest isnt enough, you also have to kill blazerunner ):

neat quest, lots of travel, but lots of xp too... (plus a boomerang!)
as a 59 demo lock, with felguard, it wasn't too bad of a fight. i had an elixir of demonslaying, which may have helped a little bit.
i tried to get past blazerunner to lure him into the cave, but he knocked me out and towards the lava pool... of course, the felguard went towards him and started hitting him, but i hadn't used the totem yet. sooo... my felguard subsequently died, and i ran into the cave and blazerunner started bashing on me... got me down to about 1/4 health, and i was popping my lock-rock (healthstone) and a potion to keep from dying when he stopped hitting me and gained all his health back (i'm guessing that the aura was back up?). so i got out another felguard and while i was doing that, blazerunner went back to the front of the cave...
.... ooookay.... soooo...
started again, with the totem to get the aura off, sent in felguard, DoT'ted a bit, drain soul, and he died with not too much of an issue. yay! i thought it to be a little bit strange that he was standing right in front of me and i wasn't 'in combat'.
and cherry-on-top-of-the-WoW-sundae..... I DINGED 60 after killing him! woot!
aiya's coords and directions are awesome! i had to fight a few 54/55 fire elementals, but no biggie.

Soloed as 56 feral druid in quest greens.
Open in cat form with ravage, run to the back of the cave, get a few more hits in in cat form. Apply wand as necessary, when you get low use barkskin, heal up, go into bear and outlast him applying the wand as soon as you see the blueish aura.
Had to use a well fed buff and solid stone statue.

One annoyance I noticed when sitting in the back of the cave is sometimes when he knocks you back he knocks you too far up the wall to be able to attack you and starts Evading your attacks while regaining HP quickly. If you notice this, take a step/jump towards him asap as HP goes up about 20% per tick if you keep sitting there and the fight will reset.

The quest bugged out on me, the totem wouldn't remove his shield so here's what I did as a level 57 Arcane mage:

1) I kited him down the mountain to an area with no NPCs

2) then I kept him slowed and kited him around a tree used frost bolts for damage, when low on mana I used Frost Nova with Evocation (Improved with Arcane Flows and Glyph of Evocation)

Edit: Ok I spoke to a GM and he confirmed it, the quest is indeed partially bugged, you can't remove Blazerunner's aura

Had a weird time with this on 05/09/09. Myself, a 56 balance druid and a 48 hunter were able to complete this, but we both remained confused on how it works even after the fight. Each of us had the totem, and we were each able to equip it and use it on Blazerunner after the 30 second cooldown. Regardless, we couldn't remove his near-invicibility. My starfire did about 30 damage, my DOTs did around 10 damage a click. My partner was doing effectively no damage.

Our saving grace was my treants, which, for reasons unknown to me, hit at their full power when nothing else did. They each did about 100 damage a hit, and there's 3 of them at a time so he went down by the third summon. All in all it took about 10 minutes. We were able to stay alive on account of me being able to keep him rooted basically the whole time, since we did almost no damage to him when the treants weren't out.

Extremely frustrating fight for me. I don't know if this is recently bugged worldwide, or that the single spawn had the misfortune of being bugged, or if we were doing something wrong that's obvious to everyone except us. Quest chain was really cool up to that point, though.

The quest is bugged, but doable. The Totem is currently best used by spamming it constantly (it has no use CD). This will both make Blazerunner unable to punt you, plus gives you around 88-90 or so health per use.

Hope this helps anyone else who has been fretting on the currently bugged nature of the quest. :)

This quest is currently bugged and using the totem has no effect on Blazerunner. As a result my attacks weren't able to deal more than 50-100 damage each and fighting him proved nearly impossible as he can hit for 500+ damage. Even kiting you're more likely to run out of mana before he can be killed.

My recommendation would be to make a friend with a level 70+ character well before the final quest and get them to help you finish it with the aura still on.

Just soloed this guy as a 54 Prot Paladin with ST and BRD gear had 4k hp, and for some reason even when i used the totem the aura would not go away so i fought him without using it, fight lasted about 7 or 8 minutes used Divine Shield to heal once because he interrupts spell casting and used lay on hands, other than had Seal of Light, Blessing of Sanctuary, Righteous Fury, and Ret Aura for buffs and used judgment of light and exorcism but not Consecration because it burns mana and he resisted it alot finished with 3/4 HP and full mana hope this helps.

Currently I cannot finish this quest. My pal who is a 62 shammy and my 53 rogue got roflstomped. The totem, no matter how many times i used it was not dispelling his aura. I'm not sure but it may just be a server side glitch. When checking the comments on Blazerunner the NPC I found a few similar claims. Maybe this is a new bug with the last patch that happens every once in a while.

I am a level 57 paladin and I was having trouble with the totem, it didnt seem to be removing his aura. I had a 1handed sword and the totem equiped while fighing him and was unable to kill him due to permenatly being knocked around and only being able to heal while bubbled.

I did notice however that when ever i used the totem, Judgement of Light would proc healing me a little. Using this i just decided to cast Judgement of Light and spam the totem hotkey, healing myself with Art of War every time it was avaliable. Fighting him in his cave I eventually managed to kill him without loosing more than 20%, even with low sword skill.

This quest is bugged for me. Using the totem does not remove the buff from the mob. This was also confirmed by a Gamemaster, he tried it himself and had the same problems.

Soloed as a 56 feral druid. A few tips for all classes

- Make sure you have the offhand equipped when you start the fight
- Fight him inside his cave, not outside
- Clear the top of the volcano first
- Once you have removed his aura, you can and should switch back to your two-hand weapon/normal offhand
- Don't forget to loot the chest

I started off in cat form, spamming mangle and rake until my combo points were full, then Rip him. If you can manage to rack up 3-5 more combo points before you start running low on health, you can go for a Ferocious Bite. Then go into Dire Bear form, hit Enrage and Frenzied Regeneration, mangle spam till dead.

I used one healing potion and frenzied regeneration. You will also want to consider Survival Instincts if you run low on health. The main challenge of the fight is the fact that he knocks you back constantly, but if you target him and run towards the red circle, you can still get some attacks in on him (but auto attacks are less effective).

I play a Druid and I'm really fond of staves. This turned out to become a problem with this one. You have to hold the totem in your offhand, in order to bring Blazerunners protective aura down. This means, no staves. On top of that, I use the Staff of Jordan, that gives a nice spellpower bonus. So that was also gone. And I could really tell that my spells where doing a lot less damage.

Eventually I picked up a mace from AH, that gave me a 13 spellpower bonus. With that I was able to solo Blazerunner. (I just got to level 58)

My advise is to run into the cave, so Blazerunner can't knock you off the cliffs, with his blows.

My advice to other Druids, is to Earthroot Blazerunner as soon as you can. Natures Grasp is very good for this, because his blows will keep interrupting your spellcasting. That makes casting Entangling Roots a lot trickier. When you are a Balance Druid, casting Force of Nature is a good idea, right after you rooted Blazerunner. Don't forget to throw in Faerie Fire and Insect Swarm. And than hit him with Starfire, Moonfire and Wrath. Whatever you prefer.

I also kept Rejuvenation an Regrowth on myself, so his blows woudn't do that much damage.

8k Hp, hits for 300 (physical) on plate, has a fire damage aura and occasionally does a blast wave. His protective aura is removable with the totem, else he'll be nigh on invulnerable and bounce you around all over the place.

Soloed as a lvl56 retri pala, I equipped the totem in off-hand (wait for it to come off cool-down) and used my BoA healing mace in the main-hand.

The key to the fight is to totally spam use of the totem to keep his protective aura off, while dpsing as much as possible in between. Had to heal once, good luck!

okay, so i think adriangarside may have come across the same problem i did when doing this quest. I actually used the totem as i was supposed to and aggro'd not just the blazerunner who's aura i dispelled but another one who's aura i did not as well. they were standing in the exact same spot and position and moved almost in sync or i may not have noticed. i'm a level 60 druid, i had to have a friend of mine who is a level 66 death knight come help me kill both of them, and i did not get credit for it until the second death, maybe this is a glitch? i don't know. but it would explain why adriangarside's totem seemed to not work. because dispelling one's aura i still saw the others.

Soloed Blazerunner as a 55 Druid. Just used the totem to get the aura thing off, used Entangling Roots and backed away a bit and started killing him. Then just repeated.

Elite as of 3.3.5 still.

Solo'd about 30 minutes ago as a 54 Shadow Priest. Cleared the two mobs infront of the cave buffed up with self buffs and Intellect IV scroll. 2.8k Health 4.5k Mana. Cast Shield on myself and dispelled his aura and threw on my dots then ran into the cave mouth. Once his aura was gone he didn't knockback at all. So I just kept my dots up while nuking him with MB and throwing out flash heals when needed. At the end of the fight I casting flash heal three times and ended up with about 1.2k mana left over and 1.3k health. The fight took about 2 minutes and 30 seconds. Priests should have the easiest time with this elite if you're decently geared (I have 619 GS without any boa's).

Alright, I just finished this quest solo as a 57 Retribution Paladin, here's how:

1- Follow, I started from the Northwest of Fire Plume Ridge and worked my way up easily.
2- Equip the totem on your off-hand. Wait until it is usable. Equip a one-handed weapon on your main hand (make sure your one-handed weapon skill is high enough otherwise you won't be able to pewpew)
3- Mount up and run straight to the back of the cave, past the elemental.
4- Spam (literally) the totem, you may not see the elite aura going away, that's fine, release Judgement of Light/Exorcism etc. whenever they were up while spamming the totem.
5- Bubble heal when necessary.

Should be quite easy. The trick is spamming the totem.

Just completed as a newly-dinged lvl 53 dwarf hunter (beast mastery spec). Pretty easy fight, equipped the totem in my off-hand, waited for the cool-down, then ran in to Blazerunner's cave, dropped a Freezing Trap and continued through to back of cave whilst he was frozen. Pet was on passive at this point. Got myself set, sent pet in (Olm the Wise, whom I had tamed the day before whilst killing mobs for the Silvery Claws!) and immediately used the totem. Once pet had aggro I started shooting and after a couple of seconds I used Bestial Wrath. The aura must have come back as my pet was knocked down the mountainside in various stages, I simply followed keeping my attacks going and using Heal Pet whenever I could. Pet still died but only when Blazerunner was at less than 5% health.

Whatever you do, do not ever engage him out in the open. I learned the hard way he will knock you into the pool of lava next to the cave. It's a %^&*! and a half gettng out and having to fight him all over again, let me tell you.

Soloed with a 53 fury warrior- no heirlooms, not the greatest gear. Left the totem equipped entire fight, hit it when it comes off c/d. Was sure to start the fight enraged with victory rush ready. Potted once. Food buff and the crystal spire shield buff. Executed and my girl was at 40%. She rocks. ;)
