Its also not a quest item nor Bind on Pick-Up, so a very good way to check for it, is in the Auction house, its usually pretty cheap, and will save you a ton of time...

Both tin and copper veins drop it and you can mine more than one per vein!
Also mobs drop it ofcourse.

I think it'smuch easier to kill the Redridge Drudger in the cavern. The drop rate i slightly high imo

I bought the 5 Rethban Ore in the AH for 40s... can't get any faster then that!

Hmm, u can find this in North-west corner in redrigde. In a cave (Entrance 19.27)

The drop rate is around 10%

Well, whoever thought of only making this easy for miners should get a headbutt cause I just spend 30 minutes grinding these ores. pfff

Wowhead has the drop rate at 39% from the Drudgers which are L19-21.

While I am aware the representative sample reference above is larger, a drop rate of ~4/10 implies around 11-12 kills for all 5 which was not the case for me - I had to kill 29 to get the 5, with a drop % of 17. I think this is worth noting as it would be logical to assume you would get 1-2 out of the first 5 mobs but I actually begin to think I was in the wrong place or that the game was bugged due to the fact the first 10 or so dropped nothing.

Rethban Ore is named after the man who first found it, Bart Rethban. When smelted it's not as strong as iron, but its ore has a dark, flat color that some scribes use in their dyes.

Alright so i guess a few people are asking around about this quest, as it's "quite hidden"
Here are some guidelines or information that can be quite helpful.

You get the Rethban Ore from Mining Tin Vien and Copper Viens

OR you can kill A specific Gnoll,
Redridge Drudger Level 15~21 Humanoid. got 494 - 531 health.
Pickpocket does not work, in the way of getting Rethban Ore that is. Drop Rate is about 43%.

Hints;
Try and use Find Minerals if you into the mining buissness, If you can you can always Disarm the Gnoll in question, as he got no abilites just plain auto attacks.

You can get the Rethban Ore from the Drudgers inside of the cave. Btw, I had a very strange drop rate so if you don't get it right away, keep killing.

Incredibly, I got two of these in Thousand Needles, along with two solid stone. Never heard of it so came here. Looking at the obsolete quest I am thinking... did the gnolls or whatever get washed all the way over here from Redridge come the Cataclysm?

This quest has been unavailable for years, but you can still mine Rethban Ore (which has no purpose outside this quest). I just got some today in Feralas and came to see if they re-instated the quest. Nope. Even though it's not a grey item, it IS vendor trash.

I randomly got a piece of Rethban ore somehow while questing in Searing Gorge.

Rethban Ore is named after the man who first found it, Bart Rethban. When smelted it's not as strong as iron, but its ore has a dark, flat color that some scribes use in their dyes. It can be found in the Rethban Caverns, north of here.

We usually have some in stock, but we're too busy preparing for Orc attacks to gather any. And besides...Redridge Gnolls are now living in the Rethban Caverns and their Drudgers are gathering the ore themselves.

So if you need some, you'll have to get it yourself.
