if you are at the right level.. you should be able to solo this.. i did as a 46 mage. Whatever class u are.. disable 1, take out boss, take out the active one, then take out the one u disabled.. if u aren't a class that is that converse... grab a pot or two

Just Solo'd him as a 42 shadow priest, I cleared all mobs around him except one that was too close, then I pulled the close one, killed it and then the boss killed me, then I could rez next to him and kill him without any adds. One mana pot did the job

If you are careful and pull from the side, you can grab him and just one of his guards. I was able to sheep the guard closest to me, and only Shalzaru was pulled. Be careful though - the mobs around him spawn ridiculously fast. Just drinking my water to replenish mana sometimes brought new spawns down on me.

Solo'd as a 45 Enhancement Shaman.

Aggro'd the far left mob (A caster for me), which I made quick work of.

I then pulled his other helper, a warrior, easily taking him out without taking almost any damage at all (lol windfury luck) and then proceeded to take out Lord Shalzaru. I casted my Racial Passive (Gift of the Naaru) and ended the battled with 95% health.

Easy. Getting back out was fairly time-consuming though, the mobs do respawn entirely too fast.

lvl45 hunter with lvl44 pet: All mobs were pulled without "social" agro.
Also the guards and the Shalzaru shouldn't socially agro if you pull them at the right moment (when the guard and Shalzaru have the most distance between eachother) regardless of what level you are when doing it.

In the water next to the Shalzaru there's an underwater cave, but the only thing I found there were 4 mobs and a mine (Mithril).
If you decide to venture into there, then be aware that by the time you come out, all mobs from the beginning of the cave up until the water have respawned. As said above: The respawnrate is quite fast.

second try i was able to pull 1 out of his 3-man pack solo and managed to kill him fast while my stoneclaw totem tanked the 2nd add

was very hard on my lvl anywayz; i recommend beeing at least 42 when trying alone as he is 47 with 2 adds if unlucky

For the Protection Paladins out there:

I've soloed this quest at level 47, and I found it pretty easy, but rather slow, because you just can't run in aggroing all mobs, most of them are naga sorceress that use Frost Magic and even with your Frost Resistante Aura (Rank 2) you won't be able to take less than 100 dmg per cast, lucky then tend to stab you with their stick sometimes.

The second problem is that when these naga are at 15% or lower health, they will run, aggroing other mobs, so I guess you realized you'll be using the Judgement of Justice all the time, for preventing them to run. I would recommend using Hammer of Wrath when they run, but the mobs here are pretty close to each other, so it would be dangerous.

After you enter the cave, have some things in mind:

The mobs are real close to each other.
75% of the mobs inside are casters.
The mobs respawn really fast
Remember that casters can't attack you if you aren't in their line of sight. This cave has decent corners and pillars to hide behind, so that they must chase you, instead of you needing to get to them, which would be dangerous, because you would aggro more mobs.

So here is a typical strategy for fighting your way to Lord Shalzaru:

Load up Seal of Justice
Aggro mob and make it come to you
Use Judgement
Load up Seal of Light
Repeat

After you reach the dead end of the cave, you will notice that the mobs you killed all the way along are already respawning. As you look to Lord Shalzaru, he will be protected by 2 casters. Please, notice the column of stone on their right side, make your way up to behind that column and wait for the right moment to aggro the caster mob that protects Lord Shalzaru, it will begin to cast Frostbolt, then hide behind the stone column, she will follow you, without aggroing Lord Shalzaru. After you kill this caster mob, it will be easy, as Lord Shalzaru himself uses more melee than spells. Just aggro and kill him, don't forget to take the that he drops (because this quest isn't about killing him, it's about recovering that relic.

note: if you are a miner that can harvest Mithril, the veins respawn very quickly. While I was inside the cave I got 5 points up in Mining from only 2 harvest points.

Rewards:
4150 XP and 150 Rep with Darnassus
Also unlocks Delivering The Relic, which consist of talking to a NPC (on the same building where Latronicus Moonspear is) and you will receive more 5550 XP and 250 Rep with Darnassus.

Boss is very easy soloed as 43 Mage just getting to him is a pain. Use Frost ward its Ftw. I just Pyro pulled the boss and he nothing else agroed. Ended up with 18 Big mouth Clams lol.

45th Fire mage easily done....Pyroblast....fireball....fireblast and he dead, pulled him right through his guard and no social aggro grabbed relic and recleared entrance and done.

Did this as a level 45 Shaman easily.
Just kill all the Naga around before you reach Shalzaru.
He is guarded by a caster and a normal Naga warrior.
I was able to pull just Shalzaru and the warrior, did Lightning Bolt x2,
Chain Lightning, dropped Stoneclaw and beat Shalzaru to death and
then took care of the add.
Piece of cake.
But just a note, the creeps respawn pretty quickly in that cave.

You get to the island from the northwest corner. Up hill, then down, following the path until you go under an archway and enter the cave. When you enter the cave, you can go left, straight, or right. Go straight. I'm not a slow killer, and the mobs were respawning when I was about 4-5 mobs ahead, so just be prepared, they respawn quickly behind you. Going straight, it goes up a slight hill, and at the top is a large room with an island in the middle. There are a few mobs sprinkled around the room, and 2 guards with the main mob on the island. You don't need to clear the large room, just clear out one side so you can pull. The guards respawn differently each time, so one time they might be casters, one time melee, and the next time one of each. Both of the guards can be pulled separately by a priest with Mind Soothe. Obviously throw the soothe on the boss, and then pull each one of the guards separately when they are at their maximum distance from the boss. Again, once you enter the cave, you'll be lucky to have 5 minutes before the mobs respawn after you have killed them, so be prepared for that. It isn't hard, its easily soloable by a 42 priest, mostly shadow specced. I was never once below half health or mana, even on the main. You just have to keep moving, and don't *!@# around drinking after every mob or you'll have a respawn elbowdeep up your ass.

NOTE: Another thing I thought I would mention. ALL of the mobs here run off at low health, and with the large concentration of mobs in the place, the likelihood that you will get adds is good. Watch out for them.

As a level 45 rogue, I was able to stealth the entire way through the cave without pulling any of the Naga. I single-pulled a couple of mobs in the right side of the pond.
From there, I was able to single pull one of Shalzaru's body guards, and then I single-pulled Lord Shalrazu.
I just stealthed back out.

It wasn't as hard as I thought it would be, hope this helps other stealthers.

Piece of cake for my lvl 49 rogue. I snuck into cave without having to kill anything. Located the bad dude. I used premeditation and then attacked him. Wanted to back stab him but that part got messed up as he turned unexpectedly and discovered me. The two bodyguards were giving me lots of damage while I was stabbing him with my sword and dagger, so I had to take a health potion. Quickly killed him, looted him to complete quest, then used vanish with about 24% health left. Snuck out of cave the way I came in. Rogues can have it easy sometimes.

Yeah this quest can be a pain, i soloed as a 46 warrior. I was doing fine until i got about halfway into the cave then i died because if a pat agroing me. I released, ran back and rezzed as close to Shalzaru as i could. Once i got in his chamber, I killed all the mobs on the right side and pulled Shalzaru from the side and only got one add with him, still had to use a potion, but i was fine.

Just be careful when doing this quest.

Actually this guy is easier than I expected as a level 34 fury warrior. I had just dinged during the Scales quest, so I hadn't got any new abilities yet.

I was supposed to be killing him together with another 44 warrior, but he disconnected just before we got into the room, and didn't come back for five minutes so I thought I'd just give it a try myself...

He had two caster adds at the time, and with me being a warrior I thought "Oh well, a corpserun or two and he'll be down", so I charged forward and changed to Beserker Stance. While I was nuking down the first add, I noticed I had only got aggro from the Lord Shalzaru, and that the other add was still walking around at the other side of the island. Without using any cooldowns, I managed to get down Shalzaru and his add(remember to interrupt the frostbolts).

I had read the comments here, saying it was a pain in the arse, which it showed not to be for me... But I also read about the rare mob, so I decided I'd go check if it was there, which it was. For those people wondering what her name is, it's Lady Szallah. Just do a /target emote when you get up from the water, and you don't have to kill any mobs in order to see if she's there.

EDIT: I charged the add on the right side of the island when you enter the cave.

Did this as a 44 enhancement Shaman. I was able to pull him and one add, killed the add first then him. Had no trouble at all.

The adds next to him will either be melee or the casters. If they're casters and you're a shaman, kill one add first while keeping grounding totem down and shock as often as you can to avoid the spells and you should be fine.

Soloed as a 44 hunter marskman. pretty easy went on the right side and made my pet attack the first guard but i aggored the other 2 guards and Shalzaru. Made my pet take all the hits and healed it. I got down to 50% health at the least.

Here is a few tips for doing this quest.

#1- If you are a melee class (Warrior, Rogue, Paladin, Enhancement Shaman and Feral Druid) make sure you use LoS to your advantage for the casters. I found that I could aggro from far away and run to about the mouth of the cave and they would follow most of the ways up.

#2- Don't take too long, these guys respawn fairly quickly.

#3- When fighting Lord Shalzaru you may pick up another add. Do your best to avoid this but be warned that it may happen.

#4- Generally stay to right side and just focus on mobs that way.

#5- Once he is dead you should probably just use your Hearthstone, otherwise you will be fighting most of the mobs you just killed.

Just soloed as a lvl 44 paly... pretty easy but u should probably no t do wut i did and try to just run out after he's dead... BAD IDEA! and YES u can pull carefully and only aggro him and 1 of his guards

Just following the straight line to complete this quest, there are 3 Mithril nodes -- two on either side of the middle pathway (slightly behind pillars/stalagmites), and one just past Shalzaru. Worth it to clear the entire chamber Shalzaru is in if you're a miner (got me to 230 Mining, yay).

He had one caster and one melee add when I did this. Since you can pull just one add if you do it from the side, I'd recommend pulling the melee add if you have one of each (they're easy to tell apart). Since Shalzaru is a melee mob, it's an easier fight with 2 melees that stick together.

Soloed it as 41 mark hunter in second try. rushed in cave, and feign death at right corner. i aggroed 2 of adds but i focused on him. after he was dead i quickly picked up qitem and died ^^.

Anyone else having trouble getting the quest item off this guy? Bugged? Lvl 80 doing the quest for Loremaster and he will not drop the item. I don't have it in my bags. Killed him 3x so far, no relic. Oi!

Edit: Went back about a week later after dropping the quest and reacquiring it and he dropped the Mysterious Relic right away. Odd.

4-Gaurds and 3-Sorcerers only.
Shot them all, to see if he would show up, but no deal.
Aha! hes just ahead not through the under-water path :)

<name>, new scouting reports have given us a good idea on the naga chain of command. Royalty is present amongst their rank and file, and they're the ones calling all the shots.

Specifically, we've identified one of the crueler royals as Lord Shalzaru. Scouts report that he himself has uncovered an odd relic during a recent naga excavation in a cave south of the main ruins, across the water on the Isle of Dread.

Put a stop to it by putting a stop to him, and bring me his relic so we can study it.
