I don't know about this quest. I've killed 30 of these things so far and have only collected 4 legs. The drop rate is pretty bad.

The drop rate isn't the best for these guys, but make sure you're only killing Monstrous Crawlers and NOT Silt Crawlers.

I had trouble finding Monstrous Crawlers along the beach, but found plenty of them under water on the ocean floor.

95,71 is a good area. Just swim up and kill along the way.

Wether spiral's nor Croustique's coords helped alot. I just farmed the whole beach and even the single crawlers between the murlock camps...took years to finish. If you can skip that quest do it...it's just not worth it. The low drop rate just shows what this game is all about -> grinding mobs...this is no quest Blizzard!

All the ones i found underwater (all along from up to down) were Monstruous ones, as an undead it was a bit more comfortable...
They are level 43-44
You can make the Sawtooth Snapper related quests along with this one, since there are many on the shore and underwater.

Ignore the doomsayers. As noted here on wowhead, the drop rate is around 38%. Not great, but not horrible.

The good: these crabs don't hit hard and drop Zesty Clam Meat which is needed for the 300 cooking skill quest: http://www.wowhead.com/?quest=6610 - they also have a regular loot table. I picked up a couple greens along the way and you most likely will, too. It's also good to do the Lack of Surplus quest, http://www.wowhead.com/?quest=698 while you're at it if you're Horde. The croc's in the water drop the quest item as well as the lower ones inland by Stonard.

The bad: aside from a few spots, they aren't on the beach, but are out at sea, interspersed among sawtooths that are aggressive. You will most likely spend a lot of time swimming just to get them.

The ugly: they're often around murlocs. fkin murlocs.

91, 33 is nice. theres a bunch along the beach and in the water, and there are no murlocs in the area. easy pickings

Drop rate is kind of low, but not horrible. Tip: Bring a water breathing elixir or two with you and swim out to sea from southern Stonard, by the set of islands you can see on the world map. Swim around on the ocean floor and you'll find plenty Monstrous Crawlers as well as Sawtooth Snappers so you can complete "Lack of Surplus" at the same time.

This quest is quite nice because it forces you to grind alot of mobs for XP in the process of obtaining the 10 legs.
I'd advice against going too far out in the water. It's alot more efficient to kill some murlocs on the shore to get to the crawlers.

I may have eaten my lucky charms and wrapped a few horse shoes around my kneck but I got a half decent drop rate on this one. I have had alot worse I can say but I made 20 kills and out of that I had a 50% drop rate which quite surprised me after all I have read about this quest.

I spent about 20 minutes killing every crab I saw until I read closer on the quest description. You must make sure you are killing the monstrous crawlers or your just grinding. The most productive places I found for the drops are around the halfway point on the beach and in the water (95,40) and just out in the water around the group of 3 islands off the beach to the southeast part of the beach (95,71) as stated before.

All in all this isn't a bad quest unless your looking for the quick stab and grab but for those who enjoy a little more relaxed "kill 'em all" attitude this is a great quest. Lots of xp (monstrous crawlers are level 41-44) and plenty of drops. Shells and lots of vender trash to make that extra little coin. Hope this helps and happy hunting!

Very streaky drop rate. I went:
0 for 18
1 for 28
2 for 40
... then I got 3 in a row, missed one, and then got my seventh right away.

Reminds me a lot of http://www.wowhead.com/?quest=977, where I spent two nights hunting for yeti horns in Winterspring on one character, then found the two in five kills on another.

Lack of Surplus requires drops off the Sawtooth Snappers that are nearby the Monstrous Crawlers.

This quest is horrible. Not because of the droprate which is admittedly horrible, but because the mobs are deep in the ocean and are very spread out. Don't bother with this one unless you're a druid or a lock/shaman with tons of swimspeed pots.

Like others have said: the droprate for this quest isn't really all that bad, but the quest seems very long because the Monstrous Crawlers are really far apart.

The best thing to do is to combine this quest with Threat from the Sea:

95,71 the cords are comfirmed but the droprate OMG! i killed like 60 crabs 2 get my 10 claws :(.. but i got alot of xp soo its ok :) and it helps alot 2 be undead on this quest coz its undert water. have fun lads and gl :)

As a 41 paladin (slooow killing), I went to the islands at the very north east and circled them, killing all crabs I could see. The odd croc walks by to be killed too for the other quest mentioned above.
Drop rate for me is about 50% too.

The Monstrous Crawlers are found in The Forbidding Sea in Swamp of Sorrows from approximately (84,97) to (84,2).
They are more abundant in the water than on the shore.
The drop rate isn't horrible, maybe around 30% or so.
If you are a hunter, I recommend using "track beasts". I found this extremely useful in finding them.
Also, Watch out for the Coral Sharks, they are level 46+ elites that hang out in deeper water.

**Make sure you aren't killing the "Silt Crawlers" as they do not drop the item.

This is quite possibly one of the most irritating quests ever created. The Monstrous Crawlers are few and far in between, and the drop rate is terrible. But I have done this on four different characters for the Orgrimmar rep, and the belt is pretty good, so here's what I like to do. Head for the northern most shore in Swamp of Sorrows. Bring some Elixirs of Water Breathing if you're not a shaman or don't have a Hydrocane. Swim until the map tells you you're in the Redridge Mountains area, and put on beast tracking if you have it, if not scan the bottom of the sea for the large crabs, Monstrous Crawlers, which are the only ones that will drop the meat you need. This is soloable on a level 38-40 dps class but you might want to bring some healing pots if the quest is red for you. The exp isn't half bad and if you have the patience to do this it's kind of relaxing and the rewards are decent.

Yes, the drop rate is terrible and murlocs are always annoying, but here's a tip for hunters who want to stick it out. For crawlers out in the open ocean and that are deep down, keep as close to the surface as possible while still being in range, then take a shot at them and let them come to you before letting your pet attack them. Chances are that if you're around the same level as the mobs (I did it at 43) then they'll go to your pet anyway, allowing you to back up and shoot them. This way, when they die you don't have to go way deep down to loot them. And that, I found, greatly decreases the chance of taking damage because you can't get to the surface fast enough.

If you are one of those people who is powerlvling, dont pick up this quest. spawn rate is low, and drop rate isnt great either. I spent an hour and a half combing the beach. your not even grinding s you do so, just a total lack of exp per hour. you spend most of your time swimming or just riding around on the shore .... avoid.

save yourself some frustration, don't do this quest. the drop rate is horrid and there aren't all that many of these to make up for that. do the kill murloc quests and move on.

This quest DOES count for the Loremaster of Eastern Kingdoms. So, it is worth it despite the poor drop rate.

Abster in a previous post was dead on.

95,71 is the center point for a very good spot. Monstrous Crawlers were kinda scattered out there everywhere UNDERWATER in a valley off the coast. Yes, its underwater, so water breathing helps but my Mage had no issue. AND the drop rate is very reasonable. Only took about 12mins of swimming back and forth including a few surface intervals of 30 seconds for some mana regen to get my 10.

And no safety stops - GREAT!

Blizzard should make an achievement for doing this Q...

My advice for that quest is: Don't do that or if you will decide to do, take something soothing with you, because you will get a brutal enrage effect while doing this Q...

The underwater valley at 95,71 as mentioned above, is a great place to start.

There's a high demand for the succulent taste of crawler meat among my customers; especially the meat from the monstrous crawlers.

If you plan on heading to the coast, then I could easily make it worth your while to bring me back some of their legs to have transported back to Orgrimmar.

The coast is to the east from here, and you should have no problem finding the creatures scurrying along the beaches and under the sea.
