This pet does indeed have one of the fastest attack speeds available (1.2). Combined with Beast Mastery talent tree, this pet is a true caster killer.

Enjoy him while you can however, pet normalization in The Burning Crusade will make him obsolete.

if you manage to find the also rare ghost howl just follow him around and the rake will be somewhere close by. i spent about 20 - 30 minutes looking for the rake , then after i found the ghost howl, followed him for a bit then killed him it only took me about 5 minutes to find and tame the rake

As of the most recent patch(2.0.3), he has the same attack speed and stats of all other cats of his level. His move speed is also identical to all other cats.

He used to be cool, but not any more. Get a boar for charge and gore or something you like the look of instead.

Here is what his stats are once you tamed him:

Strength: 31
Agility: 26
Stamina: 39
Intelect: 21
Spirit 23

Then his power:

Power: 53
Damage: 10 - 14
Spell Bonus: +6
Armor: 609
Attack speed: 2.00
DPS ( damage per second ): 6.0.

These are good stats for a beginin hunter, but what Primax says he isnt cool any more the boar out RFK ( Razorfen Kraul ) is in, but that has a high lvl.

The rake is the first level you canget the tawny lion look. It is also on the model for the barrens, and never seen again in the game.

Given that its actually very uncommon at higher levels to encounter a real 'normal' lion. Black and white cats are ironicly more common

Damn you Blizzard, you used to see every twink hunter in the game with one of these, well at lvl 19 and 29. Was so fun to be in an premade WSG group with 4 other hunters and just own. But now the Lightning serpent (only good magical pet in the game imo, boar ( gotta love that charge), or Owl or Vulture with schreech is the way to go.( most people think these suck but it has great rage dump and can hit hard) I miss you Rake, you were so great back in the day.

The rake is my first But not only pet I suggest that u begging hunters looking for a pet buy a stable space at lvl 14, put the rake in then go and get Dishu in the barrens He is mcuh better and looks cooler too like the type of pet that you wouldnt be ashamed of at lvl 70. Dont get me wrong i love my rake and am nvr getting rid of him but you should have better options too

I tamed the orginal Rake and he still has that attack speed :)
Other way, now it can be used as a twink hunters trouffy(i kno
i cant spell) cause its the only maned lion thats below 12.

I heard that on the Fenris realm a dwarf hunter successfully tamed a beast called "Rake," and that it was a cat. A good chance it was this beast he was talking about..... although it is true that some allies consider this very rare and just quit the hunt. (Responding to deleted post)

I do not recommed you to tame this beast if you dont want to waste 10-20 minutes to find this one. Similar with other Cat pets in anywhere Uses same abilities also, But the look is cool and Rare, As it should be.

I succesfully tamed it, Took 10 minutes to find it.

I tamed with the help of a Pally and another hunter, because there were definient other mob's around him, and well, it was rather early in the morning. The Chords were 'Dead On,' as well. I'm leveling him to 80/85! on my Hunter Troll. He's a Beautiful Lion!

Got him at level 10 on a Draenei , it was quite the trek, confirmed at 52, 18 hes was right there after a slight bit of searching but majorly worth it, hes quite awesome as a first pet.

very easy to get waited at 52,18 like said above and in 10 minuets he showed up and i got him (bandages or potions are recommended if your lv 10 it was a close call for me and i had the best gear i could get for my char at that lv )

I got lucky when I was out there with my ol' man and his hunter. He recognized the area from the first time he had played the game (Way back in classic/Vanilla) and was talking about how he spent a day or two waiting for Rake but never found the darn thing. Noticed it walking past (Pats around 52,18 of course) when we were headed towards the harpies and was like 'ey! Look what I've found!

Though, my ol' man being on a trial account - with mixed white and gray gear only had a little bit of a problem taming him - definitely want to make sure you are at full health before taming and put on Aspect of the Monkey if you already haven't.

not hard to find if you have the NpcScan addon
but if you don't have the addon and your a hunter you can
pick him out either by turning on the track beast ability and look for his name on it
or you can run around and look for something that has a mane and look like a lion,
i'm pretty sure you can't miss that.

Was easy to find. I looked up a bunch of low-level rare mobs to tame, so i decided to go to Thunder Bluff to look for The Rake. Luckily i only spent about 5 minutes of looking after him. So i used concussive shot and tamed him with my level 10 hunter :)

SilverDragon is great (i don't like npcscan)... i walked around and moused over everything with a name in red that looked like a cat, i think i forgot to turn on beast tracking

but, for some reason, he wasn't stealthed, but Silver dragon didn't do its usual holler without the mouse over, unless i got close enough at the same time.. ? no, it was the mouse over, perhaps i messed up the settings, idk

perhaps silver dragon PLUS npcscan works best? you can run around spamming the /target The Rake macro if you want, too

This cat no longer has any special abilities that I can see, and therefore no longer as much of a sought after pet. Much easier to find the exact same model/colour in Northern Barrens.

As of June 2013 The Rake is still there. If you look at the map he has different path than the ghost wolf. I wanted to tame him but my toon was only 8. sigh... didnt' drop the cloak I wanted but did drop nice Imbued Disciple's boots. cloth though. Lovely beast, bit of a fight.

As of patch 8.1.5, The Rake retains his full name when tamed. Spaces and all! This was a deliberate change that Blizz made to allow certain pets to keep their unique names (names with spaces, apostrophes, large letter count, etc).
