He is not easily dropped. I attempted to solo him at 62. Figured I would sacrifice my pet and burst him down, but he summons 2 level 64? assistants.

Solo'd with my 62 frost spec mage, was kind of a tough fight, but with the help of my water pet and poly to help with the adds he summons, he died within seconds.

killed him pretty easily as a 65 beast mastery hunter. he didnt spawn his adds tho. i was waiting but it just never happened.

im still unclear tho.... Why does he exist? =P

As with the others above me, I'm also curious why he exists. Looked fun though. And dropped the level 65 BoE blue Gunblade, which I don't see on the loot table, must have just been luck at really good timing.

Didn't summon adds and he didn't have the health I expected out of an elite of his level.

When I downed him, he didn't summon anything, so he was ridiculously easy for a 65 Combat Rogue. He's not immune to any poisons, stuns, kicks, or anything, so it was basically just a shadow caster with a lot of HP. I didn't even have to pop a pot.

Just wanted to clarify the summon effect. He summons two shades of himself, that just melee you and also banishes himself at the same time so he is immune to attacks.

Soloed as a 63 Ret Paladin, no bubble, no LoH. The trick is, aggro him, fight him down until his shades spawn, then run. After he de-aggroes, fight him again. This time, his shades won't spawn!

soloed him with a 63 combat rogue, flurried his guards down, popped a super pot, bandaged, and died at the exact same time as he did... body was still there.. he dropped 2 pieces of runecloth and 11 silver :(

He did his little emote, strangely enough: "Mal'druk the Soulrender departs from the world and summons shades to do his bidding."

Since I read the previous comments before attempting to kill him, I backed my pet off, expecting him to fade out and to get shades (had a trap down and everything). Instead, he grins at me and mindflays. So I sic my pet back on him, and he gets pasted. Easiest elite I've beaten yet.

So, either fights are random and he only -sometimes- spawns his shades, or he's borked. Take your pick. :)

I just killed him, 62 Paladin. I had to blow my cooldowns, but he wasn't too tough. What's the point to him, he didn't drop anything special.

KIlled him as a 64 fire mage wasn't too hard died the first time when he summoned adds (I wasn't aware he was going to do this) but the second time he didn't summon anything he dropped for me. =)

I killed him as a 64 warrior, but his adds got me after he died :(

Also he gives roughly 1100 exp not rested so he's pretty much not worth to kill unless you want to see if you got what it takes :D Or the 2 mines behind him :D

Running back atm to see what he dropped :D hope he didn't despawn :S

Ah well he despawned :P but i got the mines so it was well worth it :D

just soloed him as a 64 BM hunter. for a named elite, he went down very quickly. he didn't spawn any of his shades, and i only used bestial wrath on my pet, but i think that isn't required. just make sure you use mend pet or it might die.

he only dropped 44silver, so perhaps his loot depends on whether his shades spawn or not?

I just killed him solo with my 63 BM hunter. He summoned his shades. I got from him.

Be sure to clear the area around him. You definitely do not need anymore adds.

solo'd him with not much trouble on my 63 fire-mage, only dropped few silver and some netherweave, with both shades spawned, so its not the shades that give more drop chance

I'm a shadow priest lvl 63 and decided giving it a trie...all I can say is I shouldn't have^^ when he banished himself, I thought it safe to fear his adds, however this also feared him, and when the fear wore off he came and attacked me...I didn't want to try again, so i don't know if he is soloable as a shadow priest at lvl 63

Solo'd him as a 65 fury warr. Another normal ogre aggrod me a few seconds after i charged him but still took him and his 2 summons down. only CD i used was intimidating shout to get the add off me, but it got feared into a caster ogre. I died moments after the elite dropped.

All i got was cloth and food...

Killed him as a 63 Prot Paladin. I cast Hammer of Justice on him after a couple of Judgements. He emoted:

Mal'druk the Soulrender departs from the world and summons shades to do his bidding.

while he was stunned but no shades came.

Solo'd as a enhancement shaman. Killed the 2 adds he spawned and continued to heal if I got low on health. Pretty easy fight though. 15s from him, woo! Only wanted the mine behind him :D

i have camped this guy for at least 15 times now, i log off a lock right behind him in one of the two holes, he doesnt aggro.

9 times he just gave like 40 silver, 4 times he dropped a green and 1 epic BOE ring and 1 BOE blue.

trust me hes not worth it, its bette to hunt for world spawn rare mobs rather than this guy

Very easy for a lock (lvl 62). Just dot him and fear him right away, he shouldnt run out of his cave. Always keep fear on him, that prevents him from spawning his adds

Sadly, he seems to work fine on my 63 shaman. Beat me pretty quickly. Mind flay was only 200 per tick but his melee was about 500 and the shades ~300 each. Also, banish ended before I dropped even one of the adds, and they were immune to stoneclaw. Probably not worth the effort unless he glitches.

Sentan, i think I'd have to disagree. me AND Scerloth both got boe blues off this dude, so I'd say hes worth a go if you're in the neighborhood.

maybe we're just lucky though. /shrug.

EDIT: i went back today after i hit 64 (enhancement) and i got my face kicked in. his banish ended before i had the shades down and i didnt even get him below 70%. no idea what happened, maybe he bugged the first time, maybe he bugged this time, who knows.

Solo'd fairly easily as a Holy/Prot hybrid paladin. However i had Shadow Resist Aura + a shadow protection potion + a shadow resist chestpiece i'd picked up a long the way to reduce damage.
Didn't drop anything for me either; seems like he's a bit of a cheap guy.

KEEP IN MIND:

This guy still does the Summoning routine but it can be interrupted and/or silenced.

He will literally barrage you with Mindflay which ticks for 200.

His melee attacks hit for 130-180 on Leather.

And although WoWHead disagrees it appears he has an increased chance to drop Greens/Blues as any elite would.

If you're in the region (say doing the Musroom collecting quest) drop by and see if you can kill him.

Ran into him inside the cave and decided to give it a go. Downed him easily as a 64 Demonology Warlock (with a Felguard). The only things he dropped were a few silver coins and 2 runecloth. Waited for him to re-spawn (around 10 minutes) and killed him again, in hopes of a blue drop but got nothing except a few silvers.

Could be a good idea to kill him if you're around, since he seems to drop some good stuff every now and then.

Solo'd this guy on a 62 feral druid fairly easily. No pots needed and nothing special in gear.

The shadows were easy to melee, it's the mind flay that hurts you. Switching form seemed to interrupt this and he can be stunned.

Only a few silver dropped.

took two tries on my 63 hunter, his adds came out for a bit then he unbanished quickly. the adds dont do much so as soon as hes hitable again take him down. only dropped some silver

Killed this guy on my 62 Frost Mage..

I started off taking out my minion before the battle started and using his freeze from range, started pelting him with Frostbolts. He summoned his 2 helper guards, and I killed them immediately after they came out. Ran out of mana, started frantically running around with health down to about 2%, Cold snapped and got enough mana to take out my minion again, Ice Block'd and let me minion take the rest of his health.

This would've went a lot smoother if I hadn't stupidly forgot to conjure a Mana Ruby, or stocked up on a mana potion, but it worked out in the end. I think the best tip I can give is make sure you kill his guards as soon as they're summoned.

He dropped 46 silver, 20 copper, not worth it to me, but it was fun :D

EDIT: Killed him again using nearly the same strategy, and almost died again. Ice Block saved me this time as it let my minion take aggro. Dropped 10 silver and 3 Runecloth this time..

Solo'd him today 01/08/08 as a 63 rogue in outland quest reward gear, have 2 crusader enchants on weapons from 59 bg's thats only thing i have more than anyone else would.

Evasion, ghostly strike charm of alacrity at start, until he summons, he stayed banished until summons were down, at which point continued to fight until I was low hp then use blind and bandage. After that fight was as normal. Just make sure you interrupt spell casting. My rogue is belf so i had use of arcane torrent too but i dont think you should need it with kick/gouge.

Oh and the point i was posting, all i got was 29 Silver and a few copper.

killed him as a subtlety rogue, dropped some silver only.

he hits for ~600 and crits for ~1100

TIP : stunlock him at the begging of the fight and his shadow images wont appear at all

Soloed him as a 62 combat rogue, with much preparation. At first, I used http://www.wowhead.com/?spell=1833, and then turned on http://www.wowhead.com/?spell=13750, http://www.wowhead.com/?spell=5277, http://www.wowhead.com/?spell=13877, and http://www.wowhead.com/?item=28041. Then I spammed Sinister Strike, and finally Kidney Shot at 5 combo points. Like Martinu said, he was stunned, and I never saw the clones. Used a http://www.wowhead.com/?item=34440 when I was low. He dropped 47 silver and Super Healing pot.

was flying around with my paladin, farming gas clouds, when i remembered this guy kicking my ass back at lvl 63, so i go in and thump him for fun. dropped 32 silver, and i got some satisfaction. who knows, maybe hes part of an achievement for wotlk...

His name is VERY suspeciously like an old MMO player of great skill, but aside from this guy perhaps being a reference to something or maybe part of some hidden/incomplete questline(like so many elites like him pre-bc and post-bc). He isn't special, though his summoning of shades to fight for him seems VERY familiar to something else(not from wow so this npc is likely a homage to another video game/story character.).

*shrug* unless you can kill him without taking damage he isnt worth the money of his drops you will take more in durability damage fighting him than you get from him asides a lucky blue. he MIGHT be like the other ogre in zangermarsh in that when he appears at a higher level(say as a 65 or 63 elite) his loot table might be slightly different/higher blue drop rate or such.

i fought this guy last nite on my 68 prot warrior.. sad to say, i have to use pot, shockwave, intimiating shout, just to run away..

things were going fine, until he spawn the adds, and joins in the fight before i could even down one add..

as u may wonder, he stop chasing once i reach the entrance of the cave.. left 152 HP only..

Just soloed as a 64 Prot Warrior. Incredibly easy fight; I didn't dip below 80% life. Just beat the tar out of him and spam your stuns. Use Spell Reflect to try and catch a mind flay if you can. I wish he had a purpose, though.

If he is under the effect of a stun he may emote he is summoning shades but it will not occur.

Killed him easily as a 64 ret pally in pre3.0 gear (some spellpower, some int, etc). Wasn't even hard, just a longer version of a trash mob.

Soloed pretty easily as a 64 shadow priest.

Start the fight at max range, pop your shield and wait 10 seconds before attacking. Melt him until adds phase, then AoE fear and dot them all. If your shield is on cd and you're getting beating, pop dispersion. Adds shouldn't last long enough for him to come back and at that point it's pretty simple.

And he DOES serve a purpose, although a small one. I killed him to get the 2 nodes that spawn behind him. =D

easy elite. solo'd on 66 rogue. didnt even take 1k off me, all casts can be stopped with ability. all he did was mind flay and never got to summon "shade" as others have said on comments. didnt drop much just silver! no items.

Was doing this for S's and G's on feral druid (in bear). I had him bashed when he did the summon shade emote and it didn't happen. Really easy with no shades...

Soloed easily as 66 feral druid in cat form. Almost certainly doable (probably easily) at lower levels.
The only thing out of the ordinary about him is that he occassionally summons a "shade" of himself, and when he does he becomes invulnerable until the shade is killed.

Killed him 24-07-2012... on my lvl 63 Prot Pala... All life intact thanks to "Seal of Insight"
Nothing but junk dropped.
Mind Flay damages a bit but is easy to disrupt
