Just tamed this little bad boy, solo. Here's what I did;

1. Go to Halls of Valor (MYTHIC difficulty), run straight to Hymdall skipping all the trash with feign death.
2. Kill Hymdall, use BL pet, keep mend pet on, shouldn't be a problem. Only took 1 try.
3. Go to fenryr, skipping the trash by using feign death again and heal CD's.
4. Attack fenryr until he runs away and then clear some of the wolves around the cave.
5. Again pop BL+prepot and just nuke him down. Save Misdirection for when the adds spawn and make your pet tank them.
If pet dies, just ress and feign death to reset aggro to pet. Use healing CD's when needed. Try not to stop dps while he is doing Scent of Blood. Took me a couple tries.
6. GO OUT of the instance, right-click your characters portrait and reset all instances.
7. Go back in to fenryrs cave skipping the trash like you did before and a neutral Fenryr should be in the cave.
8. Tame him and enjoy. =)

I'm 904 BM hunter with Prydaz and the belt as legendaries. Core Hound pet for the bloodlust.

Edit: No need to go out/in and reset, tamable version spawns in his den after killing Fenryr.

Hello to fellow hunters out there! I just got done defeating / taming Fenryr here.

Following the steps given by Ketku6000, I got to Fenryr (wiped three times), and upon beating him I expected to need to leave the dungeon for the hour long wait. Cleared Hymdall (On mythic difficulty! don't forget that!), and chain-feign death'd my way to fenryr.

I do not know if this has changed between my attempt and Ketku's, but Fenryr will now spawn directly after defeating him - behind you in the cave (writing this at about 8:30pm western pacific time, 04/11/2017).

I was Ilvl 894-ish BM, (had to swap around some gear to make the final, successful attempt), used the Apex Predator's Claw and Shadow Hunter's Voodoo Mask as my legendaries. Was kinda tricky to balance when to use what on what abilities - I ended up alternating using Cheetah / turtle on the Scent of Blood rounds. Saved Misdirection for the Core Hound (or otherwise lust, if you prefer something else) for Unnerving Howl's ebon packmates. Pet died about 3 times per encounter - I made sure that I had a good distance between myself and Fenryr / the adds if I anticipated my pet dying (Mend Pet alone will not keep your pet alive. You might have to use exhilaration in favor of keeping your pet alive rather than yourself, if you have other means of surviving but its up to you!)

Best of luck to hunters taming him! I used an agility flask, mastery food (375) and an augment rune. Used Potion of Prolonged power instead of deadly grace (pre-pot as well as one later, during), to help the pet's survival as well.

Because pet taunt doesn't function on bosses this is ridiculously hard to attempt as Marksman or Survival. I switched specs and, even though I hadn't played BM since WotLK and my Titanstrike had 0 AP, I was able to get the first boss an extra 30% while in the spec purely because my pet was generating most of the aggro instead of me.

After gearing up a little more and getting 42 traits on my 907 Titanstrike, I was able to defeat and tame Fenryr with an ilvl of 891 and using only The Apex Predator's Claw for BM legendaries. This took me several hours of continuous attempts, but once tamed I can confirm he is summon-able in all 3 hunter specs, screenshots submitted.

If you're having trouble surviving the bleed effect, try disengaging as Fenryr finishes casting the leap. If you won't need FD in the next 30 sec you can also FD just before he jumps causing the damage and DoT to be avoided.

If the worgs are causing you problems here's what worked for me: Kill the first couple waves, then start kiting the worgs at around 30% on Fenryr. Make sure to keep your pet on Fenryr while you're kiting and to use as many stratigically placed Tar traps, Freezing traps, and Binding shots as possible.

Any hunters that can confirm that Fenryr will spawn if you defeated him in Survival or Marksman? I'm sure he's tamable and usable in all specs, but haven't taken the time to familiarize myself with BM's rotation yet.

For anyone wondering, the Beast Mastery extra pet Hati does NOT retain the runes or the spears in Fenryr when you use the essence swapper.

I too just tamed Fenryr, using mainly Ketku6000's tactics.

I skipped the first trash by simply running through it and FD before the boss. Stonehide Leather Barding can be useful to make sure you don't get dazed.

Hymdall proved to be a little bit difficult at start, I had several attempts before I finally got him down. My pet seemed to take quite some damage from him. Tenacity is definitely recommended, Last Stand proved invaluable throughout the whole dungeon. Let your pet tank Hymdall in the middle of the area, so that when you're avoiding the lighting breaths you're always in range of him. Remember that per Horn of Valor, the lightning will never spawn at the same location twice. When he sounds the horn, look where the first dragon will land his breath, then stand in that spot as soon as the lightning has disappeared. That way you won't get hit by the other two breaths. My pet seemed to take no damage from the breath so its safe to ignore his positioning. However Hymdall's melee damage was sufficient enough that even with mend and MD on cooldown, I had to resurrect my pet twice throughout the fight.

I skipped the next trash using Feign Death. Once I was inside the "dining hall", I waited for FD to be off cooldown, then disengaged and used Aspect of the Cheetah to reach the portal and FD there.

All trash in the next zone can be skipped. If you're acquainted with M+ runs, you'll probably know the route. If not, just rush to the water and FD there. Then go ashore at the opposite side and cross the bridge to the right to reach Fenryr without fighting any trash. The first phase of Fenryr was dead easy, just tank and spank and keep Mend and MD (for the dmg reduction) up at all times.

When heading to the Phase 2 location, I kept my pet on passive while I pulled one of the wolves of the pack on the left without pulling the others. He wanders just far away enough to be able to do this. Then you can safely run over the path between the packs to your left and right, and kill the single wolf that's to the left of Fenryr (when facing him). That gives enough space for a staging point to start Phase 2 with.

I started with a KC to let my pet take the initial aggro. Save MD for when the adds spawn. It helps if you stack on Fenryr so that any adds your pet has not agro on, gets cleaved down quickly regardless. When Fenryr does his scent of blood, this is a very opportune moment to let your pet heal up again. Just run/disengage to the back of the cave behind him and continue your dps (and mend pet). If Fenryr is at least at the point where he was before the fight started, the scent of blood will end before he can reach you inside the cave. Keep fighting him there, and repeat in the opposite direction when he does his next scent of blood. If you cleave down the adds fast enough, then your pet should take minimal damage. Mine did not die this fight at all.

Once Fenryr has been defeated, a neutral copy of him spawns inside the cave. It does (almost?) no damage so just click your tame button and cheer :-)

Remember to take your time. There's no rush in doing it and if you die, you have to run back from start and skip all trash again.

My stats: 905 equipped, 930 titanstrike. Legendary belt and legs (for the passive healing). Core hound pet for bloodlust in Tenacity spec. Single target talents (Way of the Cobra, Dire Frenzy, Bestial Fury, aMoC, Killer Cobra). I chose Volley over AMoC on Fenryr to help cleave the adds in phase 2.

i swear i think Blizzard has gotten stupid over the years I'm getting my ....kicked trying to solo HOV for the wolf . how do they expect you to solo it on Mythic seriously

I just recently killed Fenryr on Mythic and there wasn't a Neutral spawn of him in his phase 2 cave... So I left and came back in an hour and all mobs were de-spawned and Fenryr not in any part of the map, so I went out to try resetting and I got the same result. So I waited another hour, and still nothing. I've put in a ticket to see if there is a known bug and after spending a couple hours and finally getting it with no end reward, I feel this should get resolved somehow :\ If any one can shed some light on this, it would be greatly appreciated.

I just did the Mythic with a group. Disbanded, then waited 30 mins and tried to go to tame Fenryr. I got a "not in this group and will be sent to gy in 30 secs".
Does this mean it can only be solo'd?

I just did a grp mythic o HOV. Waited well over an hour and Fen is still yet to spawn. The dung was completed and all mobs have de-spawned. Is there something I am missing?

Hello fellow hunters !

Here are my tips on how I managed to do HoV mythic 0 solo mode for Fenryr on my hunter. Prolly not the best way, but worked fine for me ^^.
Because BM is my offspec I made my own way of dealing with that challenge (MM spec/no pet - Fenryr kill).
Important note - you need to do whole HoV run solo in one go. If u leave and come back later to finish it, neutral fenryr will not spawn (I learned it hard way - I had 2 days break between boss 1 and 2). I assume that it is due to the fact that atm the game can't see the difference if u did the run solo or not, if u use multiple entries to do it. Hotfix that fixed unintended way of getting fenryr also forced players to do it in one go. That are again my thoughts behind that issue.

Setup
I went as a BM hunter 891 ilvl gear, 898 weapon, 37 artifact ranks, 4 set bonus and 2 legendaries (I used 'shield' neck and pants for heal - but I guess they are not that important). Flask,food,A rune. Pet in tenacity spec - spirit for heal, or core for hero (both work).
I changed keybinds for md on pet, mend pet and move pet to - to my mouse scroll up/down and side button (so I can use them easily).
Talents - for what I used is not that important, because in my opinion everything works for my purpose. I went for mostly single target talents.

Map 1
I cleared all the trash to the first boss. Freezing trap helped me smooth the process.
Hymdall I managed to kill sticking to 2 rules: - keep pet alive, move pet out of storm drakes breaths.
MD and Mend on cd. Used Last Stand and Ehhilaration when I felt need to. When pet died I poped AotTurtle,revive,FD (MD if not on cd).
Next I respecced to MM and moved to map 2 avoiding trash in camo mode.

Map 2
BM specced I killed all the aggresive mobs in the map and left all the neutral mobs alive on purpse for later use.
Phase 1 Fenryr managed to do without any problems.
Phase 2 Fenryr is where I had problems as a BM, so I came up with a solution.
Let's kill him in MM spec.

Setup
MM hunter 897 ilvl,917 weapon, 46 artifact ranks, 2 set bonus and 2 legendaries (neck for shield, and Sphuz's Secret ring for movement speed).I any items with speed help (I had trinket with 489 speed on it).
Flask,food,A rune.
Talents - Lone Wolf for damage, - Black Arrow for instant damage skill (taunt not working on Fenryr), - Posthaste for movement speed, - Patient Sniper for more damage from Piercing Shot, - next one is not important, - A Murder of Crows for another instant damaging skill, - Piercing Shot for instant damage on the move.
I decided to kite him around the lake and nuke just him ignoring the adds he calls.
I started with prepot and hero from drums and damaged him as long as I could than I started kiting him and doing damage whenever I can until he died. (You can use gunshoes for movement speed if you are engineer just before fight so u have some more speed for those 20+ secs - I didn't tried but it may help you). Than I went into cave respecced into BM and tamed his neutral version.
Kiting Fenryr tips:
- When he howls he stops so you can make more distance between him and you
- Ignoring adds is easy as the are slower than you
- When he does scent of blood u have movement speed so it is easy to run out of his melee range
- When he leaps use disengage (use it only for that purpose) so you dont get bleed and have more movement speed to get out of his melee range (use disengage just before he finishes his cast and you should be fine with bleed)
- When he is getting close use Freezing Trap on neutral mobs or adds so u get more movement speed boost (thanks to the legendary ring)
- or use AotCheetah
- or belt speed enchant (if you are engineer like me)
- When he is in melee range or you are getting low on hp use Exhilaration, AotTurtle to deal with it, or Gift of the Naaru (if you are drenai like me^^)
For kiting phase I used Arcane Shot, Marked Shot procs, Piercing Shot, Black Arrow, AMoCrows (all instant and easy to use while running).

While I struggled in phase 2 as a BM (around 20 wipes), as a MM I found my method way easier (2 kills 2 wipes).

Personally, I wish he was a spirit beast. As a BM hunter main, I wind up using my Karoma over Fenryr (as well as my beloved Grimtotem Spirit Guide) simply because wolves no longer have any special abilities while spirit beasts have stealth and a heal. And when I do switch off BM, wolves still get out shone by the non-exotic pets with abilities, like turtles, nether rays, etc. Considering the fact that taming Fenryr pretty much requires BM spec because you need your pet as a viable tank and the fact that they made many spirit beasts have challenging taming processes, not to mention that Fenryr IS in the Hall of Valor, it would've made a lot of sense for him to be a spirit beast.

After defeating Fenryr he didn't spawn for me, neither immediately as he should by now nor hours later.

So after reading around a bit and opening a Ticket a GM confirmed my suspicion: You have to do both bosses during "the same run". Otherwise the game will not track that you did Hyrmdall solo. So be careful to only start serious attempts if you have the time and theres no buggy wordlquest messing up the Fenryr area or stuff like that...

For the first time, I managed to solo Fenryr with ilvl882 (Prydaz & Roots of Shaladrassil equipped). However, I had previously left the instance and so the tameable version did not spawn. Next week I repeated the process with ilvl887 (same legendaries). The wall-of-text description below:

First phase is tank & spank. Blow all your cooldowns, pre-pots, drums and burn him down. Second phase is trickier. I could not keep my pet alive with my ilvl no matter what. Even if I aggroed the adds to myself to kite / Binding Shot / Tar Trap them around. Then Fenryr did a quick work of me. I decided not to tank him and kited him around the lake. For that, you have to first clear out all hostile mobs that you might run into during your jog.

I went with Dire Stable - Dire Frenzy - Posthaste - Blink Strikes - Binding Shot - Murder of Crows and Aspect of the Beast, for maximum pet damage on the run. For the pet, I specced my trusty Turtle from Hymdall into Ferocity, for the sake of deeps.

The start of the fight: Stand at the maximum distance from him that your abilities allow. Flask, food, rune, pre-pot, drums. Misdirect @turtle and go all out at him with all cooldowns. The turtle will die in about 15 to 20 seconds and the boss will switch to you.

Use Heart of the Phoenix to instantly resurrect the turtle while running from Fenryr. When he howls, use it to put some distance between you. Drop Tar Traps and Binding shots behind you to slow adds, but otherwise, ignore them and focus on Fenryr.

When he leaps, if you use Disengage when he's already in the air or put enough distance between you by running in straight line, he will miss and not apply the bleed. Only use Disengage for the Leaps, or he will kill you either with bleeds or with catching up. Save the Aspect of the Turtle and Cheetah for those "Oh &*!@" moments :D

The Scent of Blood speed boost will help you stay at a healthy distance from the adds. Keep track of them and Fenryr from the corner of your eye, they tend to swim across the lake to cut corners.

If the pet dies (and it will due to aggroing the adds and sometimes over-taunting Fenryr), Revive Pet keep running. Feign Death after Revive Pet if adds and Fenryr are too close, it will give your just enough time to flee ~~while the wolves will maul your pet~~ :D

TL/DR: If you have Segreto di Sephuz and Prydaz, Magnum Opus di Xavaric, equip them. Both legendaries make this fight that much easier.

EDIT: currently in 7.3 there exists a bug with Feign Death. It no longer removes aggro from the Hunter. While still possible, it is much harder to pull off. Unless you have Artiglio del Grande Predatore equipped, it will be a hassle for your pet to over-aggro you. I suggest holding out until you have ~930 ilvl and just burning the boss down. Good luck!

Okay, so I've read up on lots of comments here and it seems there is lots of confusion on how to get the the tamable version of Fenryr to spawn. Especially since the script for him was changed at some point to make it a real challenge. I will attempt to collect all the information in one post and hopefully clear up the confusion, spare you frustration and save you some time with faulty attempts ;)

In the beginning you were able to clear the instance with friends and then re-enter it after a reset, this has changed now though. There is a script that checks your eligibility for the Fenryr spawn. If you fail any of the requirements (see below TLDR), then the script will basically return a "false" and you won't be able to get the tamable Fenryr to spawn that week. The script will also return a false, if you started the instance, but left it for longer than 30 min. You can apparently leave it as long as it does not reset (to get buff food, repair and so on), just make sure to get back in time. This is limited by the instance mechanic that has been in place since vanilla wow. When no character is in an instance for longer than 30 min, the space reserved on the instance server is cleared and any instance progress wiped, NPC will respawn and so on (you can also force this with the "reset all instances" option).

So basically this is the biggest currently available challange for taming right now and you must do it solo. Bendak has confirmed over on the Petopia forums that Fenryr has to be soloed for the tameable version to spawn, and shows up instantly when the boss is killed, no soft reset required anymore. If he did not spawn for you, you failed one of the requirements.

Basic Guide for the fight/progress:

Mount up and ride to Hymdall to skip trash mobs
Feign Death
Kill Hymdall
Mount up and ride to the fields of eternal hunt (maybe use disengange while indoors, to get faster to the portal) to skip trash
Feign Death
Ride to Fenryr (you can skip the trash by staying just outside their aggro range)
Clear some of the trash next to Fenryr so you have room to kite
Kill Fenryr (Tip: You can outrange the bleed)
Go into the back of the cave
Tame Fenryr

If you have Segreto di Sephuz and Prydaz, Magnum Opus di Xavaric, equip them. Both legendaries make this fight that much easier. I think Blizzard planned this! We were all in the wrong, those two leggys are not useless. Illuminati confirmed!

TLDR:

Requirements for tamable Fenryr to spawn:

- You must do it on the first attempt
- You must do it on the first run of the week
- You can't extend your ID from last week
- You must kill Hymdall and Fenryr in the same lockout without a soft reset inbetween.
- You can't leave the instance (for longer than 30 min until soft reset takes place -> needs confirmation)
- You must do it alone (clearing with friends and then resetting/returning does not work)
- You must set the instance to mythic
- You can't see Fenryr while one of the instance worldquests are available that day in the same zone as Fenryr (phasing)
- Bendak has confirmed over on the Petopia forums that Fenryr has to be soloed for the tameable version to spawn, and shows up instantly when the boss is killed, no soft reset required
- A disconnect for longer than 30 min will reset the instance
- You must git gud :)

If you did everything correctly tamable Fenryr will spawn in the back of the cave. Good luck (>^-^)>

Just tamed him on my 916 BM hunter. The comments here helped some, but what finally got him down for me was a little ridiculous.

I have the legendary legs, which give you a passive heal, and honestly staying still and eating the leaps and scent of bloods is what finally got him down for me. The adds hit like trucks, so they need to be misdirected to your pet and whittled down with volley, but if you're like me and godawful at kiting, give the old "let him eat your face" tactic a try.

I just killed him 2 days ago , alone on mythic . He did not span after he died . First 2 boss of course , never left the raid ect . Put in a ticket . All they could say is they understand it's quiet hard to do it on solo and they are very sorry to hear about this . After Fenryr is defeated a neutral tameable version suppose to spawn is the cave immediately , IF this did not work please submit a bug report ! ( well thanks a lot this report should help me a lot )
They sincerely appreciate me being with them over the years ,( I started in vanilla ) it really means a lot to them ect ect .
Well it doesn't change the fact that I have to do this fight over and over until the tameable version shows up in the damn cave !

seeing as theres no 8.0.1 poster yet, il fill you guys in.

after wiping about 5x on hymdall and 6 on fenryr from my own derping i managed to tame him. thankfully LOL.

Strat I used:

enter dungeon
chain to first platform on left in front of pillar, feign death to let trash run back.
summon pet, heal/food/lust/drums
slay hymdall
run up ramp get close to portal as possible feign/exhilarate if needed

map 2:
kill trash if youre bad at kiting like i am,the deer can stay just kill bears/oxen, cleared out fenryrs den area entirely, for me he spawned by the campfire area at first not in bear cave, its random which spot hes in.

first phase no issues sic pet on him an dps away.

2nd phase when hes weakened
potion/lust/drums, all cds burn on pull. drop tar trap/ice trap whenever possible the summoned ads run slower than you do, disengage while hes casting the leap to avoid the bleed, drop traps on ads if needed, spam the hell out of mend pet and misdirect every cooldown, set your pet as focus,keep repeating til fenryrs dead.

enter cave and tame. iceblock trap doesnt work its apparently immune.

leggos used: prydaz & sephuz.
potion: potion of prolonged power
flask: flask of the seventh demon
gear ilvl 211
talent spread: dire beast, chimaera shot, trailblazer, murder of crows, posthaste, barrage, aspect of beast

Easy on 120. Killed Hymdall and Fenryr in Mythic, right after killing the wolf the tameable version of Fenryr appeared. Did not need to wait 30+ min.

To make it quick and easy, if you don't want to read too much, here:

1. Enter Mythic Halls of Valor (solo).
2. Get to Fenryr and kill him.
3. Aa soon as you kill him, another Fenryr (yellow, neutral) will spawn in the cave.
4. Tame it.
5. Enjoy it.

Petopia says this pet is available at level 10. But it's in a Mythic dungeon you have to solo.

Is this doable at level 10 (since everything scales now)?

seems to be bugged as of at least 3/24/2021. I have him on my hunter, but my friend and I have been trying to get it for her. After killing Fenyr on mythic, the tameable version does not spawn. We even cleared the instance on mythic and came back, still nothing. I put in a ticket.

No issues taming just now:

Enter dungeon on mythic
Mount up to first boss, stick to walls to avoid trash
Kill first boss
Head to forwards and then right to the fields
Follow tracks to Fenryr's first encounter, get him to the ~half health to phase
Head to cave where he's licking wounds, defeat him there
Tame the neutral version in the cave behind

Update for Patch 9.2.5

Step by Step

Set Dungeon difficulity to mythic
Enter Halls of Valor
Kill Hymdall and run to Fenryr
Kill him
He will spawn in the cave behind immediately
Tame him and be happy

On current patch it doesnt matter if a world quest is up in the dungeon. I had one and was still be able to let him spawn and tame him :)
PS: A very nice Hunter pet + usable for all 3 specs
