Tyrathan is a human hunter that Vol'jin befriended on Pandaria, during the events of the novel Vol'jin: Shadows of the Horde. The two of them hated each other at first but became close over time. Vol'jin saved Tyrathan's life once by bargaining with the death loa Bwonsamdi to keep him from taking Tyrathan's soul. They promised each other than if one of them died, the one living would kill the person who did it.

After completing The Fate of the Horde, Tyrathan can be found in the mountains behind the crowd at Vol'jin's funeral. He swears that he's going to fulfill the promise he made to Vol'jin:

Please don't call the guards. I came to honor Vol'jin, not to cause trouble.

He was a friend. We fought side by side against great odds. I owe that troll my life.

We once swore to each other that, should one of us be killed, the other would avenge him. Always thought he'd outlive me...

Whatever it takes, I'm going to make good on my promise.

Yes! It is good to see some novel additions to the game. Vol'jin: Shadows of the Horde is a very good book. Read it if you're upset with Vol'jin's fate. He really needed more time in the spotlight. All he got was an expansion that didn't even take place on Azeroth and didn't include the factions much.

Hope to see Khort on the Broken Isles!

Its gonna be hard for this guy to keep his promise, because Vol'jin killed his killer. Unless he plans on hitting the legion by proxy.
