The thing is, the biggest issue a lot of people have with BfA is how their classes "feel." Having to choose between the most important aesthetic / grind / goal choice (covenant) and something that impacts how your class plays / feels is really bad. Personally, I think we as players need to give Blizz more dev freedom to try things and be creative ... BUT in this case I think a talent bar or a decoupled choice from the covenant is important since end game farming of mounts, cosmetics, story and aesthetics (and a lot of your immersion, emotional buy in and fun of the game!) is going to play a huge role. But how you play your class is HOW you interact with the content. They're both incredibly important and shouldn't have to be a trade off.
Very cool, I am excited to see the talents available to the other classes as well. Currently I am leaning towards aligning my toons with the Emo-vampire Goth clan.
With the idea of "un-pruning", the, imagine Blood getting BoS back, combined with Swarming Mist, or maybe even old Conversion seeing a return, i get moist just thinking about it.As a mythic raider, i fear we will be forced into 1 of the covenants for min maxing regardless oh which one we actually want personally.
People seem to only care about numbers as though they're all in the top 0.5% of raiding or pvp guilds. This system is going to be pretty punishing to min-maxxers, because which abilities are "optimal" are going to change with each new patch and Blizz already went on record to say that changing covenants isn't going to be a simple thing and could put you BEHIND.Not to mention that it's the Soulbinds that are going to impact your class the most (there being multiple per covenant.. and who's to say they won't add more as the expansion goes on), not these single abilities that you probably will only use as an afterthought to your rotation.Just pick whatever suites your character's fantasy the most. This is supposed to be a RPG, not a math problem.
The numbers min max optimization is not just for the 0.1%. At every level of play, at least in raiding, depending on the global level of your group, you will find some dps checks, and so many people, heroic raiders for example or mythic raiders but not like the top 100, will be pressed, not only by the group but by their own desire to do something more to help the group past those checks. So imagine you picked the weakest covenant in terms of abilities but the one you found the coolest, well you'll only be able to blame yourself and won't be able to help the group, and this will feel @#$%ty.
The whole shadow lands are about balance for one purpose . This is going to be very cool as all of these abilities look sick . They did a great job, quit belly aching just for the sake of it.
*sigh* exactly what I was worried about... I mean, I'm lucky that my blood DK main can take the ability that fits my characters identity (assuming that the damage reduction isn't nerfed into the ground).... But the fact that only two of these abilities offers any kind of survivability means that were I more interested in one of the other covenants, I'd have to "choose" character power over the story/aesthetic I'm interested in.I REALLY wish that Blizzard would stop putting core character abilities/power outside of the character. Things like trinket abilities, meta gems, socket bonuses, reforging, and set bonuses are cool and interesting ways to shake things up, but they were never class or role defining abilities and had enough actual choice to them that you could play around (which pieces for my set bonus, what trinkets are better for this situation, etc...).Covenants are simultaneously the most interesting and exciting part of Shadowlands for me and the biggest worry that I feel could ruin my enjoyment of the game. And since I have zero personal financial investment in the game (being a token subscriber)... it's incredibly easy for me to just stop playing the game. I'm sure I'm not the only one in a similar place either. Also, as a tank, I am pretty sure I'm going to hate it when a DK in my group goes necrolord. That mini-grip is going to be a really cool open world thing, but when it procs on a mob that I'm actively tanking and pulls it out of my range because the other DK is just running in dropping an outbreak from range... it's going to piss me off, and could even potentially result in me dying if it's my primary target and I need to death strike it.
I don
I think people are forgetting these active abilities aren't the only benefits we get from out covenants. Between these and the soulbinds, I'm hoping they can mix things up enough to where there never is a clear BiS covenant. But until I see more regarding the soulbinds, I can't really say.
Cooldowns, cooldowns, cooldowns. Am I the only one who thinks that cooldowns will get out of hands again? They don't affect gameplay, they just affect numbers.
I'd say these look really cool but definitely lean towards specs. Which... kinda sucks. I exclusively play my DK as blood - and the Night Fey looks vastly more useful than the others atm for tanking (especially in mythics). I don't want to be a Night Fey DK ^^ But ability wise if they were just 4 talents? I suspect most tanks would just pick it.
When are they going to let me be Exalted with the Scryers and the Aldor at the same time? How many years has it been already?/s
