I like to spend my gold on Christmas presents mounts/pets for my guild friends at the end of the year. Other than that I funnel my gold into tokens for game time.
If they are cheap enough I like to buy pets I don't have yet. But I mostly save my gold. Most expensive thing I bought was the Onyxpanther. And I think those black market containers are just fraud. You never get what you want. Just like Lootboxes.
"Thou shalt have a strategy."... It's true, I need more of a strategy. In the decade I've played, the most gold I've ever had at one time is roughly 1.5 million which is what I have now. My current intention is to get the spider mount when I have 2 mil, whenever I finally make it to that point. As for that AH mount, I honestly do not seriously anticipate getting it, ever. To make serious gold requires serious time investment, and there are just other ways I prefer to use my time. That being said... I'm going to give the updated guide a look through.
Most of my earnings go towards game time with the rest being spent on repairs and potion mats for raiding. Even so I still search the AH regularly hunting for bargains to resell or add to my various collections.
I'm pretty stingy with my money as well. The biggest thing I've ever spent gold on is maybe the transmog yak and game time. Lame I know lol. I've also never really had 1m gold sitting in my bags. Currently I have 500k split across 4 chars or so.
About staying up to date and knowing a value:Last time I was farming gold was in Vanilla/BC for mounts/flying. So I've decided to give gold-making a try. First I needed a motivation, and for that I needed a goal. Long Boi, gold cap - it's all good, but it wasn't something I was sure I want to dedicate needed time to get to. So I've started with something smaller - get enough WoW tokens to purchase race change to freshen up my main.I've spend an evening reading and watching TSM setup guides, then imported Material flipping config, lost 5K trying it, but got needed practical understanding of how TSM works. Then created my own categories/formulas for the markets I was interested in - based on my understanding of guides I found online and information from discussions on woweconomy subreddit ( THANK YOU A LOT! )The next day I was planning to start building my inventory of transmog, made a quick buy categories to snipe materials I need for crafting - tailoring and engineering. But something was missing - I didn't research whats going on right now in the game... and it was something - the first day of Love is in the Air. I never played WoW during February, so this was my first time with this event.Opportunity:I checked prices for event items and what I could resell, and saw messages in the trade chat from players wanting to buy Lovely Charm Bracelets, a few were selling them, but only small quantity 2-5. And you need a lot more to buy event stuff, so and idea popped up - farm them and sell in bulk. After spending 2 hours on trying different spots (15 min farms) - the best one was - dropplets in Eye of Azshara around Kosumoth WQ. It was a first day - no videos yet, only my own trial and error.Being an Arcane mage made that farm blazingly fast - fly/blink into the group -> Arcane Explosion -> next group... ~1 hour and 180 Lovely Charms were added to 60 I got from previous farm spots tries. 240 total, let's go sell it :)Value:Again - that was the first day. Prices I saw from those who were selling 2-5 bracelets were 400-500 gold per bracelet. But I wasn't interested in selling to help with dailies. Only in 50+ to each buyer. And since there was no competition for selling them in bulk - 500g without any discount on quantity was the price.220 bracelets sold in about an hour and a half. The next day I didn't have a lot of time, so I farmed charms for 1.5 hours and bought Swift Lovebird to put something extra on AH in addition to crafted items I was selling - current expansion tailoring, bags, engineering pets... Sniping mats for 80% of market value or less with TSM is really good :) and since many players were farming Legion content for charms - Shal'dorei Silk has dropped really low = good profit on bags.Next 300 bracelets wasn't selling as fast, 1.5 hours on one day, and 2.5 hours on the next to sell them. Mostly because a lot of players saw what I was selling and tried to get a piece of the pie, haha. In the end I had to drop price to 300g per bracelet for the last 150 batch. Results:in 10 days, with 1-3 hours per day, 1 character, 520 bracelets sold + 2 event mounts sold + a lot of materials sniped & crafted items sold = I had more than enough to buy 3 WoW tokens needed to purchase a race change for my main. Goal reached, time to make a new one since I've enjoyed this experience a lot :DI don't think I'm going to farm transmog after all. Crafting and selling is more appealing to me, plus an occasional flip ofc. But I'm definitely going to keep an eye on future opportunities like this event. It's a nice side hustle while sniping/crafting/selling my regular stuff.Hope new gold-makers find my experience helpful.Cheers & Good luck!
I feel like any cosmetics are a safe thing to spend gold on. Gear will eventually become obsolete, but transmog, pets, mounts, and toys will last for as long as wow does.
The value over time point is a good one, well beyond event-related items. It's certainly true that the weekly reset affects when my Guildies hit me up to help restock potions!
I very seldom spend gold unless its for tokens. The last thing I bought of any value was the Tundra mount because I figured it would help me to be able to farm stuff better.
Black Market unclaimed items are just gambling with your money, I'd never do it. Because the server is price-dependent it requires that you have the ton of gold and are willing to lose it all for something worthless. I also don't play the lottery IRL so it takes a certain gambling mindset I think. I'm still struggling to get to 1M gold so I can get the fancy chicken pet. I spend most of my gold on pets if they are priced right...pokemon ftw!
Awesome guide! Definitely will check it out as a casual player.
I have never really been playing actively to get gold but ive always seemed to be going plus from just playing despite paying for raid supplies and other stuff. In both warlords and legion i had a lot of alts and was doing the garrison and order halls which gave a good amount. End of legion I was doing a lot of m+ and often helped my friends with boosts which also earned me some gold. I have always had professions on all my characters selling the excess stuff I get from them and I would rather farm something if i can make it myself rather than buy it. I would like to buy the AH mount but I was a bit short at the start of bfa and the passive goldmaking is a lot less now than in legion together with me not playing as much means i still got a bit to go.
I’m trying NOT to spend money except for repairs. But after reading about the black market box I’m seriously considering dropping some gold on them weekly.
I find spending some gold on something I want re-lights my fire to make gold because I want to keep my toon @ 5 - 10 mil liquid gold.when I bought my long Boi it dropped me to 3 mil and I felt poor. So I redoubled my efforts to get back into the 5-10 range. I'm now at 5.5m and I want my spider. So next time it's up I will buy and get fired up again. Lol
What do you like to spend your gold on? What's the most expensive thing you've ever bought? Have you ever gambled with an unclaimed container on the Black Market?Definitely the long boy! I considered it a pretty good purchase because a lot of main cities in current content normally don't have AHs, so I like that it saves me time running back and forth (and yea, that totally sounds lazy, but I used to do all my auctions on my phone while watching TV when the app still had it, and that was even MORE lazy). Besides that, I seem to purchase mounts mostly. I've never been able to get the Blazing Drake to drop, even though I saw the Handmaiden 3-4 times. So when I saw the blazing on the BMAH, of course I bought it. Relatively cheap, just over 1 million gold, and I finally got my Awake the Drakes achievement! Then of course, I pay for my sub and bnet balance with gold. Since the tokens, and since they could be used for bnet balance, I haven't spent a real life cent in this game.
The most expensive single thing I've spent money on is Vial of the Sands. I spend just over 65k on mine which was still a really good deal. overall though I've spent more gold on pets than anything else. I have over 920 at present and i'm still going. Most were world caught or dropped but I'm not above buying them on the cheap to let me spend rare currency or world event tokens on buying toys (mostly so I can get enough toys to get more pets...)
I feel it would be safe for me to buy a "longboi" if I had 5 mil surplus over what I ended Legion with... so far I'm still into deficit, so no longboi for me. This expansion proved pretty expensive for me, especially with no cheap "prolonged power" potion to burn in m+ and raids. One commandment that I would add to goldmaking is "nothing takes 'no time at all'", tons of people claim something "takes only seconds" but I found it untrue. If you're doing any activity on a big scale: crafting, restocking mats, scanning AH, reposting auctions, all that takes time and that time adds up. You can speed up some things with addons, faster pc (screen / mailbox reload) but if you're doing hundreds or thousands of actions, they will add up. One thing you cannot speed up is crafting time, doesn't matter if you scrap, disenchant, mass mill / prospect, smelt, craft items, they have fixed "cast time" and if you produce lots of stock it will take you lots of time to make.
