After our earlier tweet, we are working on a hotfix so that the Coldlight Surfrunner can drop when ANY murloc type is present on an Island Expedition. Furthermore, we're simplifying this entire system in Tides of Vengeance. More details on that soon. https://t.co/JpWmdO8NnC— WarcraftDevs (@WarcraftDevs) November 21, 2018

There are different Murloc tribes in Azeroth, and so far, the kind of Murlocs that could drop Coldlight Surfrunner have not appeared on Island Expeditions. https://t.co/Fg0sOn2I2J— WarcraftDevs (@WarcraftDevs) November 20, 2018

How was it sassy...? Straight-forward answer to a straight-forward question...
Give pets to the people! I do enjoy IE because I like to roam around killing stuff mindlessly, but the rewards should have some non-rng way of obtaining them, even if it is medium-high grinding.
I believe the whole IE thing to be a social experiment for a new AI game they are producing. This is why they wont say how the back end mechanics work.
I've seen deep sea murlocs before, but I guess it has to be a coldlight tribe that needs to appear or something? If so, it should just be a generic drop from them, not limited to a rarely-seen tribe.
I think it would be great if we could buy a special item that triggers specific invasions or something. Maybe we could use dubloons for this. And we can only use the item on specific islands so we still have a rotation.
This expansion sucks and I don't even know why... It just sucks... and I'm horde, lol...
So the pet I have been trying to get wasn't even possible to get, lol.
You know an expansion is !@#$ when its main feature isn't even remotely polished. GG!
My least favorite part of doing Island Expeditions is desperately trying to convince my groupmates to not kill the azerite elemental and instead focus on rares. The second least favorite part is a 20 minute search for an PvP island group followed by a 10+ minute que for Island PvP, because they generally take longer and are more difficult to win than a mythic IE equivalent. Blizzard, you normally don't have to spell out stuff gives reward because we can tell that if we kill boss A X times on one difficulty, and then kill boss A X times on a higher difficulty, the difference shows. Islands have so much rng that the underlying system is completely obscured (whose going to farm 1000+ PvP wins to compare them to normals?)
The most annoying thing to me about Island expeditions, is that if you do your job right and win by a lot, the invasion event never even begins.
Just make them random rare drops from completing specific islands, FFS. Even if people know they can get rewards from targeting rares, they never go after them, and they never cooperate for this. People just rush farm the islands. They had to know based on the current "go-go-go" way that people do dungeons these days that this "special loot" farm wouldn't work in this game. I haven't even bothered doing the islands since I learned of this silly loot mechanic, knowing that no one else would share my interest in rewards, thus making them impossible to obtain anyway.
Blizzard simply misjudged the potential interest in island expedition. They are too much of a chore to do, and the rewards could pretty much be nonexistent. Simply no reason to do them. Chances are just too low.
I think people understand how loot works on the islands, for the most part. It's just that there are so many impediments to a loot focused strategy: Your teammates not cooperating, the other faction tagging rares or winning, your team winning too quickly.
I have found nothing of value in the Islands. The entire system feels like such a cobbled together afterthought.Hope for the right island, with the right invasion, then hope for drop from targeted rares or mobs. 3 levels of RNG to try to target anything? LOL no thanks.
Have a protection system in place like legendaries and what not. The longer you go without a reward from Island Expeditions, the higher chance you have of getting one. Unless it's too much to have it in place for each enemy type.
