This is a horrible change. we will have skittish every week.At the moment the itemlevel difference doesnt matter because every tank can hold aggro. In BFA no one will take a low geared tank for anything and new tanks will be kicked from LFG for doing appropriate content.Tanking isnt fun at all on beta right now, so have fun with very long queue times...
I don't see how this positively impacts the game at all. Threat generation and DPS having to hold back on their damage is archaic and doesn't fit in with ideals of most gamers today. I want to be able to hit my buttons as a dps. I'm already having major damage cooldowns being put on the GCD, having to not press buttons while a tank gets their *!@# together is only going to make the game even more slow paced than before. As someone who played back in those days of threat management, it wasn't fun and I was relieved when it was gone. They BRIEFLY tried to bring it back in Cata until everyone complained and it got changed again in MoP. It seems they haven't learned from their mistakes at all.
Seems fair. It feels weird to slap someone in the face and his focus is 100% on me while he's being stabbed by 19 other people at the same time.
Awesome change. Say goodbye to low gear alt tanks grouped with high dps in BfA content. Also say hi to awesome queue times as don't see why any decent tank would bother to cope with anything pug related. While we are at gcd and threat meter returns, combined with pruning, may we have stuff like ammo and lock shards reintroduced? You know, to both please vanilla fans and slow the game even more. Ah, and while at it, how about some solid resistance gear requirements, you know, would fit the "going backward " philosophy quite well. 40m raiding should also be on the table, because we all know these changes will bring back all the players from vanilla, so let's go all the way :D
More dead trigger happy dps, love it :P
I would love to know what the practical impact of this is in, say, a low level dungeon or a mythic+ with no / easy affixes, take Maw of Souls. Do people a) do "the big pull" straight to the first boss or does the tank actually b) have to work a lot harder to gather the mobs up and hold them or c) have to go one pack at a time?Dungeons long ago became all about speed to the extent that even a small pause occasionally or a tank being cautious on pulling (god forbid pausing to mark targets or request cc) resulted in ninja pulling or "just go ffs" / "pull all". Changing how the tank needs to approach the dungeon changes the whole group's approach or results in a horrible wipefest and the kind of experience that creates the PUG nightmare. I can't see the cultural expectations adjusting to a slower reality without the frustration mounting very quickly. Groups are accustomed to the tank pulling large or several packs and running on to the next pull when mobs are <50% health while mobile dps clean them up on the move with no thought of threat, so how much impact does this really have on group approach?
Then they should nerf skittish affix as well.
Can’t they keep this garbage in classic?
I have a tank of every class, 2 x bears!(coz they are awesome).I will take the wait and see approach. If things vet worst in random H runs, ONLY ppl will be getting my tank services is guildies or friends. GL to others with longer Q times. If it doesn't change much in overall picture, I will be doing random H runs as usual.I assume this is mostly to prevent people facerolling high level M+ keys and HOPEFULLY it will prevent those idiots to cheat the Q who join as tank but DPS.
Give locks back soulshatter as a threat dump then.
AND...now PUGS just got worse...
Was this a recent change in the beta build? I've heard no complaints so far from people playing the beta that tanks have been struggling to hold aggro so I doubt it's a return to the Classic/TBC style of aggro unless this was recently implemented.
It feels like they are going the same route as ffxiv is doing. Tanks have a dps combo and a threat combo. But the reason it works in ffxiv is because every single class has 1 or more threat reducing abilities on a low cd. So when you see they are climbing the aggro table they use their ability and stop generating threat for ~10 seconds. This is gonna feel so bad in dungeons. It's gonna be like permanent skittish for burst classes because they lack the proper aggro management.A fury warrior using all his burst is gonna do so much more damage than 4x the tank using his burst.
All dps and heal classes will need a threat dump, for a while at least. Tanks will probably need an addon like Rob Boss Mods (is that still being developed?) or macros to click at the start of every boss fight to quickly get the info relayed on how to handle mechanics. If anyone in group doesn't read it, they only have themselves to blame when they die.
I feel like they are collecting the worst mechanics from vanilla and put them into BfA. Haven't we all missed the good old afk in the middle of a fight to let the tank generate threat. Or the good old stun yourself in the middle of combat while your buffs are running out because GCD obviously needs to be changed so you can't effectively use your cooldowns anymore.
I'm tanking on the Beta and not having serious issues with that. On the other hand I wonder why nobody is talking about the 7 second death immunity that healing mobs have in the Underrot for example, or mobs that charge the healer every damned second. Or the mobs that only die with AoE and have their own AoE attacks eat up the entire party because they're part of a six mob pack that includes said healing mobs with 7 second death immunity. Or the damned tick mobs that wipe the party with 15K (a heroic-geared tank has about 25K HP atm) damage per bite each, and are always around on 8 mob packs. It's not terrible for reasonably geared people but hitting heroics with 305 gear and dealing with that is honestly a pain in the ass due to all the wipes. I foresee tanks charging to run heroics again.
