WoW Economy Weekly Wrap-Up
Hello! Welcome to the 197th edition of the WoW Economy Weekly Wrap-up!
My name is
Samadan
and I am a content creator focusing on making gold using Professions and
TSM
. I have a number of guides over on
YouTube
and I also stream my adventures on
Twitch
.
9.15 PTR Material Buffs
This week saw an
important change to materials on the 9.1.5 PTR
specific to us gold makers ...
Professions
Mining ore drop rates across all zones, including Elethium Ore, increased by 20%.
Callous Hide and Heavy Callous Hide drop rate increased by 20%.
Jewelcrafting Essence drop rate increased by 10%.
Lightless Silk drop rate has been increased by 20%.
The reasoning behind this is unclear, but I would imagine it ties in directly with the high cost in quantity of materials required for crafting Legendaries.
Legendary Crafting outside of tailoring is just an insane proposition to get into as a solo player not directly buying materials from the AH or spending literally all of their time exclusively gathering. I've been running 21 maxed mission tables for months and the "passive" income from that has me with a R4cloak, R4 leather waist, R3 leather wrists, R3 JC neck/ring since those don't compete, no mail, no plate. I have not been pushing cloth yet - but my Lightless Silk income seems like it would support a quick whatever I wanted once I'm ready. I think this change is more directly aimed at accessibility for people to make their own stuff if they choose to in a more reasonable time frame.
It also raises the question of when and if we will see new materials in 9.2 or (if there is one) 9.3?
It has historically been unusual, at least until the past few years.
7.3 added new mats and 3 zones, and was as a result nicknamed as a mini-expansion (mats which are among the cheapest in the game as they are almost completely useless)
8.2 also added new mats this time covering all professions, with new recipes using both 8.0 & 8.2 mats so older mats stayed somewhat valuable.
I don't remember it being a thing in the past beside new recipes (such as Mop with the daily CD) but considering how Blizz more or less tries to emulate legion in each new expansion I'd say it's likely.
Another take on this approach of increasing material availability (and thus reducing price) will have a knock-on effect of opening more opportunities for Vendor Shuffling, something it appears Blizzard have actively tried to supress in recent times. If you are not sure of the concept of Vendor Shuffling and looking ahead to future profits,
Zanzarful
has a great video covering the topic ..
Perhaps if the developers don't want to follow this route, another approach may be to reduce the number of materials required for Legendary crafting. It's still early days yet, this is all on the PTR and things can (and often do) change before they go live.
More Mission Table Successes
We have been talking a lot of late of mission tables and how they can help with gold making.
u/silobass
talks here about their experience..
I decided to see how profitable the command table was for myself so took stock of everything for a week. A few caveats to take into account:-
I am Night Fae which does make it easy with the troops you can use. I can put 1 follower in and fill the rest with troops and generally win the mission.
I have 20 level 60 followers and am currently leveling two more. Apart from Ben Howell (who I don't think is in the game yet) this is all the followers.
I didn't do all the missions. My character has a lot of anima, conservatory spirits and stygia so I didn't do all of these missions.
The gold value of the trade goods is simply taken from the TSM market price when highlighted over the item and will vary a lot depending on time of day, realm etc etc.
Final results can be seen at
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1b0sBreDDkBn3Jo79O7_x8OPSzUIM92jhye6wulyRd5w/edit?usp=sharing
but the tl;dr version is that for gold and points of interest I got approx 60044 gold in items and gold plus and 235 pet charms and a bit of reputation.
Edit: forgot to say, my character is an enchanter so a lot of the enchanting mats have come from DE'ing the purple goods. I'd either DE or vendor, whichever had the greater gold value.
a week is a reasonable amount toward making enough for a token each month certainly and this can be leveraged further with more characters and an investment of setup time.
This also brought further discussion as to how best to level companions..
Can anyone tell me if there is a method to the madness of leveling your companions, or is it just a mega grind? I never focused on this stuff at the beginning of the expansion and leveled a bunch of alts in 9.1, and now i'm rotating missions usually more than once daily for all my followers, prioritizing bonus XP missions, and i've been doing this for weeks, and they are all level ~25. Feels like a truly insane grind to get followers to 60.
Definitely not an overnight thing. One thing thats helped me is not being afraid to "Suicide" your followers for large xp missions. Depending on your Campaign mission progress you should have missions for 1200-1500 base xp, normally the actual reward is augment runes or material bags. The mission might be like lvl 51 and very difficult for your followers so I just send 5 ~lvl 30 followers on it to their deaths but they still get the 1500 base xp even if they dont complete it.
For my main I picked the top half of my followers and focused on them, that way the other followers levels rise faster
For alts I take it a step further and only accept the companions I want and ignore the rest. Once they get leveled to get the extra helpers to 60 then I'll start getting rid of the orange exclamation points on torghast and next to the table.
My thought is that the lower level chars can level faster when they can get carried by the higher lvl NPCs
I prioritize augment runes, gold, and XP missions. My favorite are the ones that grant XP tokens along with gold or runes.
There are definitely efficiencies to be had here,
u/Mrugly has a great post over on r/wow
going through many tips for getting companions in Torghast. Also,
Zanzarful
has another great video going through how he uses the Table and the addons he uses ...
u/Thebigfreeman
also shares their experiences so far ..
If i may add my own experience - would be nice to read from others too.
Doing Table with 8 characters, mostly running for anima, xp and gold missions. The gold missions alone give me close to 40K gold a week. Nothing crazy for the time spent though: i restart missions 3-4 times a day. Going through the 8 characters' tables takes me close to 10 minutes, even with venture plan.
My learnings? Even with 20+ level 60 companions, the max level of difficulty (20 table upgrades) is not worth it: Gold value increases but difficulty as well to the point where most my Fae companions are low HP after the 60+ missions and need 12 hours to recover. Also it takes me longer to assign groups that win.
Oh i was not clear yeah: 40K is the total gold a week cumulating all gains from the 7 characters in my account. Not per character. So what 5k per character, i wonder where this stands versus previous expansions. Better than BFA but lower than WOD or legion?
I've got only one character at difficulty max (20) and all other at difficulty 10. The max gold mission can give between 300-370 gold, versus the level 10 missions are typically more around 250-310.
I'm only counting the gold missions, i'm not running after mats or runes like you said. I hesitate to do that because of the pain it is to sell anything on HV, i don't like to cut prices but i don't want to reconnect 5 times a day to relist the mats.
Flipping Masterclass
Manthieus
also has a great video this week expanding on the last one about material flipping. This one goes into the process in more depth ...
Also,
The Lazy Goldmaker
has a video going through his process too..
