WoW Economy Weekly Wrap-Up
Hello! Welcome to the 133rd edition of the WoW Economy Weekly Wrap-up!
My name is
and I am a content creator focusing on making gold using Professions and
. I have a number of guides over on
and I also stream my adventures on
Shadowlands Pre-Patch Estimations
There was a lot of news to digest with the recent WoW Livestream talking about Shadowlands and subsequent interviews. We don't have a release date yet, only sometime in Fall. This has been crucial for those still working to get their Brutosaur Mounts. We did however get confirmation from
Ion says during the interview that the Brutosaur will be going away in pre-patch. This gives us less time to get the necessary gold for the mount as pre-patch generally occurs a month earlier.
on the woweconomy reddit trying to guess what sort of timescales to work to. With Beta starting next week
gave some previous timescales ..
Heres some numbers for you...
From Legions beta to prepatch: 68 Days
From BFA beta to prepatch: 84 Days
So Id expect between 2-3 months.
There are a lot of guesses going for a mid-November launch wich would put pre-patch around mid-October. This is purely speculation at this point.
If you haven't gotten your Brutosaur yet and are still working on it, good luck!
TSM 4.10 Updates to UI
The TSM team have released another blog post going into more detail on the
UI updates to expect in 4.10
. u/Gumdrops posted a
summary of the updates
I just put up a blog post that covers the new UI & Design improvements that are coming in version 4.10 of TradeSkillMaster.
I'm honestly very proud of what and how the TSM team have iterated upon the existing look & feel of TSM - it was one of the biggest negative feedback drivers from the launch of TSM4. We learned a LOT, and your feedback was discussed in great detail. One of our meetings went on a 20 minute tangent about the placement of an individual button for example.
Everything was scrutinised and refined to make sure it lives up to expectations both in terms of intuitiveness and how it looks. We can't wait to hear your feedback in the Beta phase (starting SoonTM,

Heirlooms and Archaeology
Some further news coming out this week as Shadowlands rushes towards Beta was firstly
confirmation that Heirlooms would no longer provide XP Bonuses
interview with MrGM
, Lead Game Designer Morgan Day mentioned that Heirlooms will no longer grant bonus experience gains.
With the level squish and faster pace of levelling in general, there is an argument that further xp boosts are no longer required. The other side of this is that many have sunk a great deal of gold into these in order to get the fastest levelling experience and this feels like a loss.
What do you think? Will you continue to use Heirlooms even without the XP buff? Will the item scaling and enchants you put on them be enough?
More news this week was that
Archaeology is not planned to be updated in Shadowlands
. The main reason Archaeology is used for gold making is the
Vial of the Sands
mount. This will still be obtainable, but no further updates are planned.
Do you use Archaeology? Would you have wanted to see it add flavour to the game and perhaps some more gold making potential?
Kraken Latte's Stonehide shuffle
s latest video goes through a Legion raw gold farm that might have less competition than some of the current ones doing the rounds at the moment..
More Gold Making Tips
has put together a handy
Gold Making Guide for Beginners and Average Gold Makers
. It breaks down gold making into two parts, Raw Gold and Professions along with some handy tips for gold making. I've extracted out and formatted a few snippets here ...
Step 1 : Obtaining your Starting Capital
There are many different ways for you to obtain your starting capital. You can sell raid runs, this can be your main source of income even long-term, doesn't have to be just your starting capital, if you enjoy it do it.
Another way would be selling BOE's that you obtain through running BFA raids. The BOE's don't sell for as much as they used to but it is still a pretty good side income if you happen to get a lot, really depends on RNG.
In my opinion the best way to obtaining your starting capital would be through gathering farms. You can pickup the professions herbalism/mining and just go out and gather. You can use the website the undermine journal to figure out what herbs/ores will be selling for a good price and then you have to experiment by going out and gathering that herb/ore and seeing if it will sell on your server.
My personal favorite materials to gather would be (DISCLAIMER** the prices of these will vary based on your server of course, Ghost iron ore could make me the most gold on my server, but on your server it could make you the least amount of gold):
Ghost iron ore/trillium in Pandaria
Whiptail in Uldum
Azhara's Veil in Tol Barad
Cobalt ore/saronite/titanium in Northrend
Gathering BFA mats that sell for good on your realm.
If you don't enjoy herbalism/mining I would recommend just go farm some Volatiles, Primals or Eternals as these all sell pretty well.
Step 2: Crafting Professions:
I will be going over each crafting profession(Alchemy, Inscription, Enchanting, Blacksmithing, Leatherworking, Tailoring, Engineering, and Jewelcrafting) and I will be explaining what to craft within each of them to maximize your gold making potential with professions. I won't be going into MUCH detail about the professions. I will just be going over the basic ways to make gold with them.
Alchemy is most likely going to be the best gold making profession no matter what realm you are playing on, this will vary based on what time of the expansion you decide to start selling alchemy at, if it's the end of the expansion not much guilds are going to be doing dungeons/raids so they will not need potions as much, so the market for this profession will die down towards the end of expansion as the demand dies down. If you are on a high pop realm with a lot of raiders you will be rolling in bank weekly with this profession as long as you are on top of your restocking and reposting. Of course about the only gold you will be making will be with current expansion alchemy crafting as people don't have much use for older content potions. There is a mount that you can craft within Alchemy which is called the Vial of the Sands mount and you are able to sell this mount for a good amount of gold. Only thing annoying about this mount is the journey of obtaining it. I won't go into it here but you can search how to obtain the Vial of the Sands mount. Really annoying grind unless you get lucky, you can get it within your first hour or two.
Always my second best gold maker. Inscription is very great as you can of course sell all of the current expansion crafts and you can go back to older expansions to sell glyphs from those and people are always looking to buy all kinds of different glyphs. Another great profession to have during the beginning/middle parts of an expansion as players often struggle to find quests/world quests that will provide them with trinkets, well you can be that provider. The trinkets with BFA Inscription have been a really good seller and still are. During the timespan of an expansion Inscription will of course be really good at the beginning of an expansion and die out towards the end, but you will always have gold making potential with this profession as you can sell the glyphs I explained.
Really good profession as people are always looking for enchants to put onto their gear and especially during the beginning parts of an expansion when players are looking to progress as fast as they can so they will buy tons of enchants to put onto their gear. During the middle parts of expansions Enchanting is still really good as players are now all geared up and they will look to put the enchants onto their newly gotten gear. Towards the end of expansions enchanting of course dies out but you can still make gold off of this profession as you can sell Tome of Illusions from all the different expansions and players are always looking to buy these.
Pretty good in the beginning parts of expansions as you can craft and sell gear from blacksmithing and players would rather buy gear to progress faster than just playing with their old gear. Same thing goes for Leatherworking/Tailoring. Craft and sell the usables such as monel hardened stirrups and monel hardened hoofplates.
Same thing as Blacksmithing/Tailoring. Players can buy gear you craft from this profession as they would rather buy gear to give them a jump start. Sell the usables, coarse leather bardings, drums of the maelstrom, dredged leather bladder.
Same thing as Blacksmithing/Leatherworking. Although you can sell gear in this profession, the main gold making from this profession would probably be from the bags you can sell, hexweave bags, deep sea bags, etc. The main use of this profession in BFA would be that you can craft a bracer within Tailoring as the materials are usually really cheap on the auction house, the main use of these bracers will be by throwing them into the scrapper to get Expulsom in return. Expulsom is used for crafting all the gear crafts from the gear professions, and some other crafts. The "bracer shuffle" with Tailoring would be the best way to obtain Expulsom.
Has some pretty useful items that you can use from all the different expansions, main gold maker in Engineering would probably be through selling mounts. You can sell tons of mounts with this profession and these mounts are always in demand as they are pretty useful, especially the sky golem mount. The sky golem mount will be one of the main gold making mounts you can sell from this profession as this mount will allow you to pick up a herb without dismounting, therefor saving you a lot of time. But the one thing about the sky golem mount is that it takes 30 DAYS to craft, as a material used to craft the mount can only be obtained once a day through crafting. If you craft one of this material, you will be put on a 1 day cooldown of being able to craft it, so you will be able to craft 1 of this material a day, and you need 30 of this material to craft the sky golem mount, so it will take you 30 days in order to receive the materials required. Not much to say about this profession, level all the different engineerings, craft and sell the mounts.
Pretty much the same stuff as enchanting. Good in the beginning/middle as people are looking to fill out their socket spots once their are geared out towards the middle of expansions. I personally never had any good experiences with jewelcrafting, it never brought profit before on my realm and towards the end of expansions this profession is just forgotten about.
Tips for Gold Making:
I will be sharing some ways to further expand your gold empire and sharing some concepts of gold making that some folks think doing will make them earn gold faster, some cases of this can be true but 90% of the time you will actually be screwing yourself over and slowing down your gains.
Sitting at the auction house all day:
Basically what I'm going to talk about here is just having a good management of your time, don't spend it all sitting at the AH all day reposting an item or two. You can sit at the AH all day cancel scanning, as long as you are set and stocked up on tons of items and you're actually selling stuff, instead of reposting one or two items and depending on those to sell: Let's say you're new to gold making and you want to make as much gold as you can as fast as you can. You search on youtube the best herb to farm and you go out and farm that for a while, let's say you gathered up 2,000 of that herb and now you go to the auction house to post, but then you find that there is a decent amount of competition and you have repost tons and tons of time and you really want your those herbs you farmed up to sell so you sit there and get into a reposting battle with someone. Now instead of getting into a reposting battle with someone over a single item, how about you spend this time to go out and start farming more of that material, or even better another material so that you can start expanding your market.
Don't expect the same outcome as youtube videos say you will get:
If you're watching a youtube video on gold making and the video's title is "Get 3 million gold in 1 week!" and now you're thinking "OMG I'M GOING TO BE RICH EASY MONEY" well it ain't that easy. 80% of the videos you find are always going to have clickbait titles and almost always over exaggerating how much gold they make, never trust them. The gold making videos where the person actually makes 3 million gold in a week can be possible by three ways: 1. They sold a really expensive item(BOE or a Mount) 2. It's the beginning of an expansion and they are taking advantage of the prices of the new items as they are absolutely crazy during the beginning parts of an expansion, and if nobody is in the market you are in yet you can pretty much sell for what ever prices you want to. 3. They are on several realms. What I mean by this is, an average gold maker is just on one realm, well these guys have toons setup on several realms.
Expanding your markets:
Expand your options! New gold makers may not fully understand this topic but as you progress in your gold making journey you will come to the understandings of stuff like this. In conclusion, it's just about having good time management and making sure that you're maximizing the hours you play everyday, especially if you don't have much hours to play and you're trying to squeeze out every bit of gold you can with that time. Diversify yourself in the market, if you're into gathering farms and you are only selling herbs, expand yourself in that market, sell ores, bars, etc. Even if you're in the crafting market and you only have Alchemy, get other professions up and running. Don't only sell in the alchemy market, sell stuff from inscription, enchanting, blacksmithing, you get the idea.
Further expand your gold empire!
Let's say you're making 500k a week on your realm, and now you go on two other realms and you put the same effort into all of them and you're in all the markets, and now you're making 500k a week on realm 1, 2, and 3. Well now you're earning 1.5million a week across all of those realms! This is for the late late gold making game people. Before you get into this make sure that you are stable on your MAIN realm and have a good amount of gold there.
