World of Warcraft Patch 1.7.0: Rise of the Blood God Launched Sixteen Years Ago Today on September 13th, 2005

On this day, 16 years ago, September 13, 2005, World of Warcraft Patch 1.7.0: Rise of the Blood God was released. There were 3 major elements to this patch:
New Raid: Zul'Gurub
New Battleground: Arathi Basin
New Event: Stranglethorn Fishing Extravaganza
In addition, this patch saw a few notable introductions including the Dressing Room interface along with the Ctrl-left click command to view items on your character, the ability to turn off the text slow scroll when you pick up a new quest, and unintentionally, Corrupted Blood.
New Raid: Zul'Gurub
Hidden within the jungles of Stranglethorn, an ancient Troll city has been uncovered. Zul'Gurub is the first 20-person raid in WoW and is also the the first outdoor raid, allowing you to ride your mount inside the instance.

was a special Zul'Gurub faction - players primarily earned reputation for special enchants, Zandalar armor sets, and recipes like

New Battleground: Arathi Basin

! This 15-person battleground promoted a strategic race between the factions, as you fight to capture strategic landmarks and cripple the enemy.
This patch also marked the implementation of
Battleground Weekends
, weekly events where emissaries for battlegrounds appeared in major cities, and honor/reputation gains for the represented battlegrounds were increased. This system existed for a long time under the name
Call to Arms
, and was eventually removed in
Warlords of Draenor
.
New Event: Stranglethorn Fishing Extravaganza
A grand new event on the coast of Stranglethorn Veil pitted fishing aficionados against each other in a battle for the best catch. This event still exists as a World Quest, the

mechanic which spread a deadly plague to players and pets. Players discovered that they could leave the instance and continue spreading the plague via pets... ...and so it began...
