The Story So Far...
Hello everyone! In Patch 8.2 we saw, despite our best efforts, the release of the Old God N’Zoth. An Old God free of its chains, something unseen ever since the titans showed up to bring order to the planet. He promised us that “All eyes shall be opened” and vanished into the depths below. In Patch 8.2.5 we saw that the Black Dragon Ebonhorn felt quite an effect from N’Zoth, so much so that we were going to need some help for him. His brother Wrathion already did quite a bit of extensive research in fighting against the corruption. We tried to track him down but were unable to. Did find some handy knowledge though and the help Ebonhorn needed.
It’s a good thing that we put so much effort into creating Wrathion all the way back during the Cataclysm. Even then we saw that N’zoth was trying to break out of his prison with his corrupted servants like Deathwing, who was once charged with guarding the world but his connection to it made him more vulnerable to their whisper. Ultimately he fell to madness, as well as most of his Black Dragonflight. That’s why we experimented and created Wrathion to once again see an uncorrupted Black Dragon, a true earth-warden and while we did succeed in that mission, Wrathion was not going to let himself be controlled and find his own methods of getting the job done.

Return of Wrathion
We might give Wrathion a break considering his young age, but so far his plans didn’t really work out. When he sensed the coming of the Legion during Mists of Pandaria, he decided to play the factions against each other and have one conquer the other so that they could focus on the real threat--safeguarding Azeroth while fighting back against the Legion. That plan failed as Garrosh was put on trial. The next scheme was to set Garrosh free to an alternate reality and have him form a brand new Horde, who would stand with us against the Legion, yet like Wrathion...Garrosh was not down for being controlled. He did indeed form his Iron Horde, not to defend Azeroth, but to conquer it. The events of Warlords of Draenor played out in which we stopped Garrosh but also saw Alternate Gul’dan sent over to our Azeroth, opening a gateway for the Legion to come in. Indirectly, Wrathion caused the very thing that he was so worried about.
One of the most asked question about this cutscene is why does Anduin blame Wrathion for the death of his father and as I explained at the start, Wrathion pretty much caused the events of Legion. Alternate Gul’dan was there because he helped set Garrosh free, betrayed Anduin’s friendship that they built up during Mists of Pandaria, and on the Broken Shore...Varian lost his life to the demons. By that logic you could make a list of people to blame for Varian’s death, but that’s the thing that’s going on right now in Anduin's mind.
Even our Speaker of Azeroth knows it's time to get his hands dirty and join the fight with Fearbreaker in hand. He gifted this weapon to Anduin just before he was turned into a crystal in Cataclysm and Anduin in turn gave it to Baine Bloodhoof. With it, the tauren even saved Garrosh’ life, but felt like he couldn’t keep it with the Horde marching on Theramore. Now this ancestral hammer of the Bronzebeard Clan is back into the hand of the king. Lets get to work and figure out someway to fight against N’zoth!

Wrathion next resurfaces in the quest series for
Zanne del Progenitore
, added in Patch 4.3 alongside Dragon Soul. Rogues can still obtain these daggers today, detailed in
A Legendary Undertaking - Helping Your Rogue Pick Up A Pair Of Fangs
. One neat perk of the daggers is
Abbraccio del Distruttore
, which provides slowfall, but more importantly, grants wing visuals.

While no longer obtainable, you can read about the Mists legendaries in

In addition to unique rewards, the questline with Wrathion offered an opportunity for players to get to know the black dragon a bit better through overhearing his dialogue with Anduin. With the removal of the questline, these have been lost in-game as well. However, we've transcribed the notable bits in our

Uldum, Amathet, and Corruption
Ny'alotha has been mentioned and teased for quite a while now. Archeologists with the
Scatola Rompicapo di Yogg-Saron
might recall the maddening clues and their incapability of opening the box. We never realy knew much about the realm besides it being deeply connected to the Old Gods. And now N’zoth is trying to bring Ny’alotha to us. This alternate world inhabited by the Old Gods and their minions. It’s all around us, just on the side of a thin veil which N’zoth is tearing down. It’s going to take a whole lot of fire power to stand up against this.
Even the titans' forces struggled to defeat the Black Empire, but perhaps the machines they left behind are going to be our ticket to salvation. Mother checks them out. Uldir where we faced G’huun is operating within acceptable parameters. Uldaman is fine, the Discs of Norgannon still recording what’s going on. Ulduar and its Forge of Wills seems to be intact but Uldum and the Forge of Origination comes back with an error. This Forge, like the Forge of Wills, was placed here by the titans to help the titan spirit inside grow, but it also has another function, reseting the planet in case the corruption from the Old Gods becomes too much. This is what we stopped Algalon from activating during Wrath of the Lich King. We prevented Deathwing from getting his hands on it during the Cataclysm and it’s what the Tol’vir used to defeat Lei-shen the Thunderking when he showed up to claim it. The Tol'vir calibrated the weapon to hit the lands of of Uldum itself, taking out Lei- shen and transforming the land into the desert we see it as today. Together with Magni we check out what’s going on, why the Forge is inactive. Inside we run into the Amathet.
Sargeras stabbing the world at the end of Legion unearthed a bunch of new tombs in the lands of Uldum and that’s where the Amathet emerged from. They’re not in league with N’zoth, but that doesn’t make them our allies either. In their eyes the world is too far gone and it’s time to use the Forge of Origination to purge all of it, rather then point it directly at N’zoth. We don’t have time to sit down and negotiate working together either so we fight our way through the halls, deactivate the forge’s defenses and power up the elevator until we run into Sun Prophet Tenhamen who’s actually a n’raqi or faceless one, a minion of the Old Gods.
We got the forge working again but it’s a bit low on juice so while Mother is figuring out a way to fix that, we meet up with the Tol’vir, our old friends in Ramkahen to see if we can help keep the Forge of Origination secured. King Phaoris is already in a meeting with the Wastewanders lead by Arik Scorpidsting. The wastewanders don’t exactly have the best reputation. You might recall collecting Calpih Scorpidsting’s head in Tanaris but at times like these, we can use all the help we can get.
The Uldum Accord is established unlocking our daily quests. Time to get to work and defend the lands of Uldum against any threats like the Amathet and the minions of N’zoth. Some of you have asked if N’Zoth has his own kind of bug race evolution. As we’ve seen in the past the Aqir evolved differently. Under the influence of C’thun they became creatures like the Silithid. Yogg-Saron had his Nerubians. Y’shaarj had his mantid but I don’t recall N’Zoth having his own specific bug race but who needs them when he’s nearly got all the others on his side! So after helping out in Uldum, filling up the bar and securing another day, MOTHER has come up with a plan!
Completing this step of the questline introduces us to the Uldum Accord Faction and Uldum Assaults, with rares who drop rewards like
Redini del Draco dei Quattro Venti
and
Predone delle Distese
. The
Coalizione di Uldum
has unique rewards such as the
Terrore dei Cieli dei Nomadi
mount,
Cammello Pigmeo

In addition, players can start a special questline, from the Voidtouched Egg
located near Ankhaten Harbor

approximately 30 days
of daily quests to obtain all rewards - The toy
Ammasso di Uova di Aqir
, the battle pet

and the mount

Learn more about Corruption:
Completing this stage of the questline also introduces players to the new Corrupted Gear system. Instead of an Item Titanforging, items can now become
Corrupted
and can randomly proc on any Season 4 item! Content from the previous Season cannot Corrupt and will continue to Titanforge up to a maximum of 455.
Learn more about Corruption in our in-depth guide!
Corrupted Items will have the following:
An amount of a Corruption stat
A Positive Affix bonus that increases your power in some way when you equip the item
This creates a risk/reward system which allows the highest item level gear to be from the best content, but maintains a reason to continue to farm content in hopes for an upgrade. However, unlike Titanforging, you'll have to be careful about equipping too many Corrupted Items as a high Corruption stat will cause some pretty negative effects.
Learn more about Uldum:
Uldum
is a leveling zone added during Cataclysm, which players returned to frequently for the
Redini del Dromedario Cavalcabile Grigio
. Many of the quests delved into Deathwing's bargain with the Neferset and the Titan history of the zone, but there was also a fun questline with Harrison Jones (
Tra 1.000 anni persino tu varrai qualcosa
).
Uldum is filled with many instances, some of which players still return to for mount farming:
Sale della Creazione
,
Città Perduta dei Tol'vir
,
Pinnacolo del Vortice
,
Trono dei Quattro Venti
.
Cataclysm also added the
Ramkahen
faction, comprised of the tribe that resisted Deathwing. At Exalted, players can purchase
Redini del Dromedario Cavalcabile Bruno
or
Redini del Dromedario Cavalcabile Beige
, as well as obtain
Ramkahen
.
Learn more about the Amathet:
The Amathet were originally introduced through a special Island drop,
Scarabeo Splendente
, covered in
Secret Stories of Battle for Azeroth
. Many of the other quest items for
Raccontami una storia
led to interesting speculation, as they touched upon aspects of WoW's lore from past expansions like the Black and Twilight Dragonflights. As Battle for Azeroth progressed, we saw these story threads gain prominence, as some others paid off in Visions of N'Zoth like
Pietra Sonica
and the Mantid.
Raccontami una storia
is one of the achievements needed for the Islands meta

Vale of Eternal Blossoms and Ra-den
You might remember this engine if you partied during Mists of Pandaria. The titan facility was repurposed by Lei-Shen the Thunder King to further expand his empire's power or maybe you recall many failed attempts at getting a mount here. Either way the engine would give us enough power for the forge. When we get there we discover that we’re not the only ones with plans for the facility...
The mantid are swarming the lands of Pandaria once again, quite soon after we first helped them with disposing of their corrupted empress only to see them ally with Garrosh and the heart of Y’shaarj. Following the events of Pandaria a new empress has hatched, as we learn from turning in the sonic stone, an item picked up from Island Expeditions. Grand Empress Shek’zara has thrown their allegiance with the Old God N’zoth. The mogu warrior Tsuo tried to fight them off and gave his life in doing so. Quite interesting that he wants us to find his clan as the Mogu have been extremely hostile to us especially with the return of Lei-Shen. Perhaps our old friend Lorewalker Cho can fill us in what happened to the Mogu and where we can find his clan.
Neither the Zan-Tien, Dokani or the Baruk clans use the sigil we found. Could it be we’ve not encountered these mogu before? One last tome might hold the answers, his copy of
The Origins of the Mogu
.
Highkeeper Ra or Ra-den in the Mogu tongue was the one who ordered the Mogu to keep an eye on the Vale and Pandaria while he went about doing his thing, placing defenses at the Forge of Orgination--until far far away, the titans were struck down by Sargeras. The other keepers sensed that something had happened to their creators but Ra-den understood the full truth of it. Realising that their creators had perished, he became quite depressed and didn’t keep up with his keeper duties.
The Mogu got hit with the curse of flesh, started to form clans, eventually enslave Pandaria, all kinds of nasty things and of course we saw the rise of Lei-Shen the Thunderking who found Ra-den, stole his powers and decided that if the keeper wasn’t going to perform his duties, he would do it. He set out to fullfill the mission of the titans, but in his own way. One that the rest of Pandaria suffered under greatly. Ra-den was chained up and kept beneath the Throne of Thunder for millennia until we found him in Pandaria, still quite depressed and certain that we couldn’t stand up against the darkness locked away beneath the world. After smacking some sense in to him he still didn’t believe we could do it, but we had earned the right to try. Flying away as a ball of energy that was the last time we saw him. After picking up Mogu intel we uncover where the Rajani are hanging out and wouldn’t you know it...the Highkeeper is with them.
Seems like Ra-den is back to his old negative self again. Time to smack some sense into him by showing that we’re not powerless. The mogu, mantid and even N’zoths minions can fall before our blades. Like in Uldum we do our daily quests and fill up the bar, picking up a conquerors trophy as proof of victory and we show it to Ra-den. We have proven him wrong before and get the chance to do so again. Like the Forge of Origination spreading across the entirety of Uldum, the Engine of Nalak’sha spans the entirety of Pandaria. There are more ways of getting in there, like through Mogu'shan Palace. They’ve upgraded its defenses a bit since last we partied here with living statues, spikes froms the walls and ceilings, tiles on the floor. The poor saurok trapped here are forced to cannibalism just to survive but with Magni at our side we reach the vaults...
Our persistence fills Ra-den with hope and as caretakers of the forge, his aid would be invaluable. It’s decided. Stormspeaker will stay here and lead the Rajani in defense of the engine, with our aid of course, while Ra-den joins the others at the Chamber of Heart.
Not only did we juice up the forge, we now have a plan of attack but going into Ny'alotha is a suicide mission if we don’t properly prepare and defend ourselves against the madness. That’s where Wrathion comes in and while he works out a plan, MOTHER sorts out the Forge, but something’s not quite right. There’s an unidentified anomaly. Considering our Tol’vir allies did not raise any alarms, it must be contained within the facility.
Completing this step of the questline introduces us to the Rajani Faction and Vale of Eternal Blossoms Assaults. The

Horrific Visions and Legendary Cloak
This horrific vision, this is what N’zoth is trying to push into our reality, an echo of the Black Empire. Unprotected, our emotions ares scattered and our sanity quickly drains. N’zoth is trying to gain access to the forge and leverage its power. Somehow we need to find a way to get through this long enough to end the vision and find the source of corruption. Time for Wrathion to play his part and not just him, but the legacy of the Black Dragonflight is going to aid us. Where in life Onyxia and Nefarian were great threats to the world, in death their scales will aid us greatly.
Nefarian performed some horrific experiments to accomplish his goal of creating the Chromatic Dragonflight, dragons that combined the colors and powers of all the different flights into one. Many experiments failed, but the ones that did succeed were truly horrific to behold. It appears that N’zoth’s forces want to take that and infuse it with delicious void as at the Athenaeum we run into Vexiona again.
I say again as Vexiona showed up during the Heart of Azeroth questline in which she tried to corrupt Alexstrasza’s brood into more of their void twilight dragonkind. We chased her off as she promised us that she would find others to accept her masters power.
Meanwhile Wrathion is not offered a choice. Like his father before him, the void is trying to corrupt our black dragon friend but he has learned much not to mention has us at his side to help him out.
Kinda cool to see that more depth is given to Wrathion as not only does he focus on the defense of Azeroth, he’s also very motivated to change history, somewhat redeem the Black Dragonflight by winning this fight against N’zoth. He even went out of his way to help Ebonhorn, his only brother as he calls it. There are more black dragons out there like that showed up during island expeditions as well as Sabelian, still stuck on Outland as far as we know, but perhaps Wrathion does not.
After this step of the questline, Wrathion hands out a brand new cloak--it’s almost like we’re back in Mists of Pandaria. This is what’s going to give us our protection while wandering the Horrific Visions of N’zoth. It’s a bit small though, doesn’t quite pack the defense we’re looking for but that will come in just a moment. Let’s first give this baby a test run and return to the vision at the Halls of Origination.
These visions are not real, but N’zoth wants to make it real. As Wrathion told us, if you can’t trust your senses then who’s to say what is real? N’zoth has been set free for quite a while now, has anything that happened since been real? Who knows? A question for the philosophers, but for now, let’s trust that what we’re doing is going to save the day. Let Wrathion’s voice guide us.

Fate of Ra-Den
Just a little bit out of exile and Ra- den becomes very interested in MOTHER... and who can blame him! Reality is tearing apart around us not just at the halls but at many more locations like the Vale of Eternal Blossoms. We go inside to check out what N’zoth wants to accomplish. Pick up some coalescing visions that Wrathion can use to make our very own tears, entering the visions on our terms. It’s a bit risky making such a portal right here in the chamber of heart, but it’s going to be worth the risk as from inside these visions we can pick up information and power to further defend ourselves against the madness of N’zoth.
Visions like an Orgrimmar with Thrall convinced that the Horde should drink not demonic blood this time, but the blood of an Old God. You can just go for the end boss or help out other sections of the city. Doing so will take more time, increase the risk of falling to madness and add the boss abilities of the wings to your end boss. Risk versus reward kind of deal and don’t worry, Stormwind does not escape the gaze of N’zoth as well. A fun scenario to go into just by yourself or with a group up to 5. Purchase upgrades and abilities to make your next trip easier or fail 3 times in a row like I did and now you have to catch up next week. All good fun.
That’s what we’re doing to prepare for our trip into Nyalotha, but opening up a rift into N’zoth’s domain is just asking for trouble...
From hopelessness to sacrificing himself, believing that there’s always a way, Ra-den made quite a lot of progress and now finds himself trapped in his worst nightmare, Ny'alotha itself. We have to go after him and confront N’zoth. Our plan of attack is to stay sane long enough to place down some anchors which they can use to focus the weapon, the forge now powered up by the engine, the gifts of the titans left behind to rid the world of the Old God's corruption. The fate of Ra-den, the story of Ny'alotha, that’s coming to us Wednesday--so a story we’ll cover next week...for now thank you very much for watching everyone!
