We're summarizing what Josh said about Method's heroic week gearing strategy below.
Coining a Boss 6 Times for Weapons
On Heroic week, Method decided to do 6 Heroic splits.
Method got their alts to coin the same boss multiple times to try to get a weapon. This would allow them to trade weapons to mains on future bosses.
On their Plate classes, they coined Heroic Champion of the Light 6 times on their alts to try to get a
. This meant that if the 2H (
Ascia delle Maree
) off Blockade dropped, they could trade it to a main.
Later, they did something similar in the Cloth / Leather splits with Heroic Rastakhan. They coined him 6 times on their alts to try to get a
Guglia del Necroratore
so that they could trade the Jadefire Master staff (
Bastone del Fuoco della Fenice
) on alts.
Leveling Professions for Crafting Gear
Method killed Mekkatorque and Grong on all of their alts, as these bosses were the least two impactful bosses for loot overall. Killing these two bosses allowed them to get 20
Respiro di Bwonsamdi
for all their alts.
Then, each alt did a full M0 World Tour for 10
and 5 additional Mythic+ dungeons for 5
, for a total of 15
Now, with each alt having 20
Respiro di Bwonsamdi
, they could craft Item Level 400 pieces through professions.
Each alt character leveled Engineering, Jewelcrafting and Alchemy, and crafted the related Item Level 400 Item before equipping it and then scrapping it and unlearning the profession.
: Azerite Helm
With no item in hand, all this was done so that their alts could trade Item Level 400 Helms, Trinkets and Rings.
This required them to empty the auction houses on 3 separate servers, as there weren't enough resources on their home server of EU-Tarren Mill to level all those professions. They had to transfer guild banks full of resources across servers to level all their professions. Because of this, the guild is 50-100 million gold in debt.
Targeting Least Impactful Azerite Bosses
After all this crafting, they continued by targeting bosses which had less impactful Azerite pieces. For example, this was Stormwall Blockade and Opulence for the Cloth and Leather run. This increases the chance the alts will be able to trade an Azerite piece to a main on a more highly desired boss.
Doing this caused Method to kill bosses in a very weird order. Until the test raid on Tuesday, Josh had never played the raid from start to finish.
All Because of Personal Loot
All of this work is probably because of Battle for Azeroth's change to remove Master Loot and the current restrictions of Personal Loot.
On Personal Loot, you may only trade items for which you have already received and equipped a piece of equal of higher Item Level. Thus, in order to get the most benefit out of their alts and splits, Method needed their alts to be able to trade as much loot as possible and through Crafted Gear, Coining the same boss over and over again and doing the raid in a weird order, they tried their best to get value from their splits.
If Master Loot was still in the game, we probably wouldn't see Method doing all these crazy things on Heroic week?
