When mortal races travel to the Dragon Isles in Dragonflight, the Dragonscale Expedition will be made up of both Alliance and Horde members. In one short side-questline, some familiar faces from Exile's Reach help us learn a little bit more about working together!
WARNING: POSSIBLE DRAGONFLIGHT SPOILERS AHEAD!
Exile's Reach Characters
The Waking Shores, available for testing this week on the alpha, is the first zone that we will quest through in the Dragon Isles. Naturally, many of our allies who have journeyed with us on our expedition set up camp in this area - including a few important characters in Exile's Reach.
Alliance players may recognize Captain Garrick and her son, Henry, while Horde players should be familiar with Warlord Breka Grimaxe and her daughter, Shuja.
First introduced in Shadowlands, Exile's Reach is a shared starting zone created specifically to be a new player experience that would help introduce players to the game. The zone is open to almost all new characters, regardless of race or faction, and is written in such a way that it could easily fit into any point in Azeroth's timeline.
During these storylines, Captain Garrick and Warlord Breka Grimaxe each lead expeditions put in charge of exploration - so it makes sense that they would be assigned to visit the Dragon Isles as well. Each of them has also brought their child along - Henry, Captain Garrick's son, and Shuja, Warlord Breka Grimaxe's daughter.

Cross-Faction Friendships
As it turns out, Warlord Breka Grimaxe and Captain Garrick not only know each other, but they are friends. Warlord Breka Grimaxe will make this clear to Horde players when she tells them to report to the Alliance Captain Garrick, and in the same way, Captain Garrick will send Alliance players to report to Warlord Breka Grimaxe.
Both Henry and Shuja seem a little unsure about this new-found friendship, but Captain Garrick and Warlord Breka Grimaxe will each reassure their respective child, saying that they fought against the scourge together.
What's more, each respective mother is also teaching her child how to better get on with the opposite faction. Warlord Breka Grimaxe is helping Shuja feel more comfortable with Alliance greetings.
Warlord Breka Grimaxe says: It is good to broaden your skills, Shuja. Not every problem can be solved with an axe.
Shuja Grimaxe says: Yes, mother. For the Horde! ... I mean, for the... expedition?
Shuja Grimaxe says: Aka'Magosh, <name>
Warlord Breka Grimaxe says: And the Light be with you, <name>.
Shuja Grimaxe says: Oh yes. Light be with you, <name>.
While Captain Garrick is teaching her son Orcish!
Captain Garrick says: Not bad, Private Garrick. Continue practicing your orcish. It will prove useful on this assignment.
Henry Garrick says: Yes, mom--I mean, Captain Garrick
Captain Garrick says: Wish our comrade luck, Private Garrick.
Henry Garrick says: B-b-blood and Thunder, friend.
In the end, we leave these characters planning to meet each other for a drink, suggesting Shuja and Henry may yet become friends.
Captain Garrick says: Tell Grimaxe that the first drink is on me once we are both off of our shifts.
Henry Garrick says: You would drink with an orc?
Captain Garrick says: I would and I have, Private Garrick. And tonight, so will you.
Henry Garrick says: Y-yes, Captain.
Warlord Breka Grimaxe says: Tell Captain Garrick that the first round is on me once we're both off our shifts.
Shuja Grimaxe says: We'll be sharing... a table with the humans?
Warlord Breka Grimaxe says: Of course! How do you expect to share a battlefield if you can't share a meal?
Shuja Grimaxe says: I hadn't thought of it that way...
This side questline is short, but it may hint at bigger things to come. While cross-faction play has finally been implemented, it is still extremely limited. But with friendships like these blossoming in the Dragon Isles, we have to wonder - could cross-faction guilds be on the horizon? If Henry Garrick can learn orcish, could a human player learn to speak it as well?
We'll have to wait and see. For now, it's just great to see our old friends from Exile's Reach alive and well.
