Eurogamer Interview with Blizzard on Sylvanas and the World Tree

Senior producer Michael Bybee answered a few questions on the Teldrassil plot from Eurogamer's Tom Phillips at gamescom.

Teldrassil continues to be a sore point for both factions as the early 120 story in Battle for Azeroth has no references to Teldrassil, leaving the Horde feeling like the bad guys and the Alliance overlooked.
The most interesting part of the interview was Bybee's comment on the World Tree:
"It is a magical tree, and it's not the first magical tree," he said when we asked whether it would grow back.
"There's more that can be done, but we're not ready to talk about that future stuff."
Previously in Warcraft lore, Teldrassil was created after the destruction of the World Tree Nordrassil in the Third War. Nordrassil was later healed, playing a key role in the
story in Cataclysm, but it no longer ensured the immortality of the Night Elves.
He also discussed the challenges in telling the story of the pre-patch, spread out among many mediums. He believes that some elements of Sylvanas' story were missed if players just watched the cinematic, unaware of the other novellas. In our

, we saw how the novellas added depth to the plot of the pre-patch, including a full explanation for Sylvanas' attack on Teldrassil and spotlight on Tyrande's heroic actions, both missing from the in-game quests. We've found that after reading all the supplementary material, Sylvanas is still not particularly sympathetic, but her reasoning is explained in much more detail.
"I actually think Sylvanas has a depth of character but sometimes that's missed because maybe people didn't read some of those things. Cinematics are awesome and sexy and that's what people want to see - but there's more to the story. And there's more coming."
