Cross-Faction Groups Early Feature Preview - Patch 9.2.5 PTR
27/03/2022 alle 21:25
Patch 9.2.5 PTR cycle started with all steam with the reveal of Shadowlands Season 4. Something gone almost unnoticed, however, is that the main feature of the new patch is already testable: Cross Faction play. Learn more about what changes with this and what to expect.
The first thing you'll notice when you open your friends list in 9.2.5 is that it now has different icons for players of your own faction and players of the opposite one. When mouseovering the invite icon for those players, the tooltip will tell you more about cross-faction.
Restriction Inviting Players from the Opposite Faction
While you can invite players from the other faction, there are restrictions on how this invitation can be done.
Invite players from your friends list
Invite players from communities
Invite players using the group finder tool
Invite players using "/invite playername"*
Right click their portrait and hit invite
*You can if you share a community with the player
Communities have a new checkbox to enable cross-faction for that given community, turned off by default. After enabled, that setting can only be disabled if there are no members of the opposite faction in the community.
After you enter a group with someone from the opposite faction, small changes will happen in the world.
The most noticeable change is that you will understand the other player as long as they are speaking common or orcish, including emotes. This change happens not only for party or instance chat, but also for /say. Note that this is only true for players in your group, you still can't understand language from the opposite-faction ungrouped players.
Before joining the group
After joining group
Even being part of the same group, open-world objectives are not shared between factions, so you cannot do regular quests or world quests with the opposite faction.
Trading and Interacting
While in the open world, you cannot trade or interact with the opposite faction. So you can't /follow them or jump on their mount, if they are part of your group. Players are still treated as unfriendly or hostile if in War Mode.
However, that changes once you enter instanced content like Mythic+ Dungeons, Raids, or Rated PvP. Inside instances like that you can interact and trade with players of the opposite faction without any restrictions.
One big change with all of this is that now cross-faction mail is unrestricted. You may send items, gold, and everything else through mail between factions, even to players you don't share communities with, or isn't part of your friends list. This also means you can mail your own opposite faction alts as well.
Blizzard Official Preview
Players are now able to directly invite members of the opposite faction to a party if you have a BattleTag or Real ID friendship, or if you are members of a cross-faction WoW Community.
Premade Groups in the Group Finder listings for Mythic dungeons, raids, or rated arena/RBGs are now open to applicants of both factions, though the group leader may choose to restrict the listing to same-faction applicants if they so choose.
WoW Communities now have the option to be cross-faction, while Guilds will remain single-faction.
Random matchmade activities like Heroic dungeons, Skirmishes, or Random Battlegrounds will all remain same-faction.
The following instances are not cross-faction:
Trial of the Champion
Trial of the Crusader
Vault of Archavon
Siege of Boralus
Battle of Dazar’alor
Darkmaul Citadel (Exile’s Reach dungeon)
