It's been months in the making, but Jelly Pepe is finally ready for Prime Time...or Desert Bus. You Tuber and robot bird builder,
BuildtheBird
, has been channeling their inner Marileth to create a slime version of Pepe. This adorable little Pepe, reminiscent of
Fiala di Poltiglia Piccolina
, will be featured on charity,
Desert Bus for Hope's Desert Bus 2021 Craft-Along
in November. The Desert Bus Craft-Along accepts fan submissions of hand-crafted items to live auction, silent auction, or give away as prizes during Desert Bus for Hope to raise money for
Child's Play Charity
, a gamer based charity organization.
BuildtheBird
has been Tweeting their progress on this project so you can check out the whole process that went into the creation of Jelly Pepe. Marileth would be proud!

I think I've picked the microcontroller I'm going to use for this year's #desertbus craft along, and it's an old favorite I've never used in a project. Oh, did I mention that my proposed craft was accepted for the craft along?

Wanted to share a Jelly Pepe proof of concept before everyone dives into the patch. The rectangle is a void I can inject white paint into for bones. I was testing clarity and inner refraction at the seam as well as visibility of alignment registrations. Overall, I'm pleased!

I'm fixin' to do some magic around here in the coming weeks. Stay tuned, I think it's going to be pretty cool. Damn this is modeled so well, it's going to be fun to play with.

Did a test this weekend. Darn close to "ready to print".

Got 2 hours into an 11 hour print and nothing was attached to the plate.
Good news: The curing light wasn't coming through so the material and FEP didn't get messed.
Bad news: The curing light wasn't coming through.
Scary news: It fixed itself after a printer reboot.

Working on Jelly Pepe is easier than my other projects because he's already in the goo, the printer just pulls out his parts.

I learned that it's not deadly to mix similar types of resin, so I'm trying a 1:3 ratio of clear green to straight clear to hopefully make Goo Pepe a little easier to see through. We'll see how the test print goes.

I haven't polished it, but I kinda like the color. More lime green than a dark green. It looks less edible and more discomforting, like a slime should.

This slime is too dark. This slime is too light. This slime is juuuuuuust right.

Alright Necrolords, I've called him Jelly Pepe, Goo Pepe, Jiggle Pepe, Jell-o Pepe, and Slime Pepe. What's his actual name?

Something printed today!

Don't worry, we're using Marileth's formulation this time. You'll be good as new in a couple days and can have cake with Kevin.
Oh, my respirator and gloves are just a formality.

Hmm, this transformation process seems a little odd, but it doesn't quite seem complete yet.

The color is looking better, I think he's nearly ready!
(Thank you for indulging in my silliness. Something truly awesome is coming tomorrow. Don't miss it!)

He's done! I'm proud to share my #desertbus craft along: Gelatinous Pepe!
He's just as cute as ever, even without feathers!
Be sure to check him out on
http://desertbus.org
in November!
