This may be a reference to Tal Rasha from Diablo lore, who had a shard of the Soulstone plunged into his chest -- sacrificing himself to allow Baal to possess his body.

I wonder what we'll be using this for. The spell effect is instakill... hm, a way to avoid repair bills? ;)

Edit: This was also just nerfed on 3/19/13 to have a 30 min CD and a 1 sec cast time. I was using this on every wipe, now not as often. Bummer. Still a very fun item. :)

If this can be used in combat, I can see this being useful for quick raid wipes, gimping some boss mechanics for the benefit of the overall raid (like when focused for Blade Lord Ta'yak's Unseen Strike) or denying the opposite faction of honorable kills.

If it can't be used in combat, then I'll just be confusing people in cities...

Edit as of 5.2.0 (20th March 2013), this item:

Has an interruptible 1-second cast with a 30-minute cooldown.
Can be used while running or falling, despite the cast time.
Can be used during combat.
Can be used while running and mounted, but causes user to dismount and cast as per normal.
Can be used in the open world maps, raids, instances, scenarios.
Does not incur any item durability loss upon death.

If you are dying to obtain this neat Vanity Item, I advise parking your character in the cave (next to his spawn), logging out for a few hours, and checking back during the later hours. It seems to be much easier than fighting everyone else for the tag. - Do beware, try not to keep your character too close, though. You may end up logging in to a warm welcome from Ra'Sha himself, and trust me, his "warm welcomes" are none too pleasent for the unsuspecting.

As of this writing, wowdb lists a 50% drop rate on Pugnale Sacrificale di Ra'sha, based on 40 kills.

Pugnale Sacrificale di Ra'sha can be used in combat and also saves you from repair bill. This has been confirmed by actual in game use by myself.

This fabulous item Pugnale Sacrificale di Ra'sha is dropped by Rare spawn Ra'sha in Isle of Thunder. Location on Map: (40, 81) Note: Inside cave.
Rasha may also drop Pietra Rituale degli Shan'ze Which is lootable once per week from rares. http://us.battle.net/wow/en/forum/topic/6413023639 Is a blue post confirming there is a bug where peopel received multiple stones in one week from rare. They acknowlege there are other sources for these stones.

Ra'sha drops a Tomo del Valore which awards 15 valors upon use, just like the other rare spawns in Isle. I can confirm also that the drop rate seems to be 50% like another poster mentioned. I received mine on my 2nd kill. And helping not just one friend but three friends right after recieving mine they got it their 1st kills.

Ra'shacannot be faction tagged, so he is a "first come first serve basis." I even suspect that this guy is group tagged, and not personal or factional. These do not share like the other rare spawns in Isle like Al, Mumta, Goda, Prog, Haywire, Kulai are shared between factions.

In 5.2 there have been looting problems with rares which generally requies a relog to correct. The npc is lootable and sparkles appear then quickly disappear or when clicked no loot is given. A blue post has confirmed that you are guarenteed a Tomo del Valore per rare kill, so if this happens to you there have been a few tricks floating around since release of 5.2 on Tuesday. 1st Trick is to simply Relog, logout then login. 2nd trick is to Focus dead rare and run until you are in a new zone or you loose focus automatically and run back. 3rd trick is to pull a mob to dead rare and loot mob to hopefully pull your tome or whatever else out.This may or may not happen again but a fellow horde ran into the cave late to help me kill Ra'sha but he did not receive loot. I however recieved my Tome but was unlucky the first kill and no dagger.
Tomo del Valore you can only have one in your bag at a time so use any previous looted ones first.

NOTICE: Ra'sha will spawn inside of a cave. Easy to find because that is guarded by two zandalari elites Guardia d'Esecuzione Zandalari unlike any other cave entrance.They have 1.97mil hp each.
Once inside cave nothing to worry about but to wait at table for Rasha to spawn. You may have to bring a friend to kill as Ra'sha can self heal and will go from 60% back to full life within seconds. Good luck

Well, one quick use I found with my warlock while escaping Ra'sha's cave with two angry Zandalari Execution Guards wanting my head was to cast Soulstone on myself and suicide with the dagger to drop aggro. Seems fitting with Soulshatter for a warlock xD

Hotfixed: This item was too beneficial to avoid repair-bills so it got a longer cooldown (30 minutes as tooltip declare, was originally 5 minutes), and also a 1sec cast time.

Quite amusing to immediately use this right after losing a duel. Even more amusing to get a lowbie, like some level 12 guy to duel you, and then use this after he hits you with his first ability.

As of 3/18/13 , This item has changed.

It is no longer an instant use item, and is roughly a 1 second cast. Also, it has a 30 minute cooldown. This vanity item is no longer able to save durability loss for every single attempt.

It was awesome for a few days but now it's 30mins CD (used to be 5), has a .5sec cast (used to be instant) so quick reflexes pvp players or mobs that interrupt may prevent you from… killing yourself? That is quite useful isn't it? .5sec isn't enough to be too long for it to be deadly to you in another way but it isn't long enough to let you change your mind about using the item so I don't get the .5sec cast time.
EDIT: It is still usable while falling/jumping.

So.... beneficial uses list:

kill yourself second before wipe to conserve the repair bills. same if you gonna die from falling from a mountain, or any other unpleasant death.
kill yourself when all wiped except you and it takes you ages to die so you can all start over the boss again.
kill yourself to drop aggro and revive immediately with soul stone or reincarnate (suppose you want to open Trove of the Thunder King which cannot be opened in battle, and someone else almost get it from u. do this and get the chest :)
kill yourself at LFR when u almost fall asleep so you can sleep or make a coffee without being kicked for afking. (ehm, I didn't told you that...)
commit suicide second before dying from the other faction, so they won't get the honor points.
start duel with some low level and die on the first hit to see what the low level think of himself. funny.

As the pictures show when you use it apparently theres a bloody animation. I got this item today and use it 2 times alrdy and noticed there isn't an animation to it I just drop dead. I do not know if they removed it or not when they changed the item altogather if anyone else has gotten it and used it and noticed there is no blood animation as the pictures show then please let me know.

Atm its pretty dull.

This has some limited combat usefulness for Shamans and Holy Priests. It is not really "fair" use, but still.
For Shamans, this allows you to force Reincarnazione in a rare occasion when you need the mana so desperately. I have personally found myself in few situations where I did wish to die for that mana (usually when duo-ing old bosses with a tank and me)
Spirito di Redenzione can be used in similar fashion, but is less beneficial for its limited duration

This will not kill you at the start of a battleground while under the effect of Preparation. It will instead take you to 1 hit point and you will soon be healed to full.

Many people have already given several uses for this dagger, but I found a very humorous use for it after 5.4.

When a Bloodied member of your faction is attacking you on Timeless Isle, kill yourself before they kill you (assuming you were dying to them) so that they won't receive a coin. Not only does this punish them for attacking you, it makes for some ultimately hilarious conversations with said attacker. The other day I was called various vulgar, inappropriate names for it.

One other amazing use for it is when I'm duo-ing 25 Heroic Lich King with my DK friend who is helping me farm Invincible. I use the dagger as the Valk'yr come out, then allow him to resurrect me later at the next phase to help make the fight quicker.

I also use it after being blasted off of, for example, Lumber Mill in Arathi Basin, so I take no durability damage from dying due to the fall (not that I... get knocked off of that cliff often... or anything).

One of the greatest items WoW has to offer, I must say.

Someone needs to get together like 40 people, each with this item, and form a raid group. You then head to the opposing faction's main city (Org or Stormwind)

Once there, have everyone stand outside the gate in military formation, and wait until the enemy has a large group assembled to fight you. Then simply have everyone use the dagger at once and never come back.

I use this baby when I'm soloing dungeons, particularly Grim Batol and I don't want to run back to the entrance to have to do it again. It's much easier to run back as a ghost.

When you use it above level 90, you get an error message saying "You are too wise and powerful to gain any benefit from that item."

It was fun to use it to avoid durability loss while it lasted.

Jesus, that's horrifying. I'd still advert durability loss if I jump of the wrong rock, but...

Edit: you should only be able to use it if you're below about a certain health, or if you're falling at lethal velocity. This would represent the dagger seizing your thoughts in a moment of weakness despite your wisdom
