This'll mean that the ton of BOE vendor or item drop Elemental pets can be useful when you convert them to Rare.

Arboscello di Rubino and Avvizzino are good examples of great pets that are only limited by the fact that they are learned as Uncommon only.

Family specific Flawless Battle-stones can be found in the Sack of Pet Supplies obtained from performing Pet Trainer quests, and are Bind on Pickup.

If you are a serious rare pet collector, don't use the stones on your caught pets until you've upgraded all these first. They can not be upgraded in any other way.

To use this item you have to summon the pet you want to upgrade target them and use it on them. Don't try to use it on pets while there in the pet journal like I did.

If you are going to use a flawless stone of any variety consider leveling the pet to 25 first. It will take the pet down to level 23 and you will get credit for hitting 25 both times on the level x number of pets to level 25 achievements.

Inspired by QuickBASIC37's post on Flawless Battle-Stone, I've made exhaustive lists of green-only pets, with alternate pets with the same type and moveset (although not necessarily the same stats) that can be obtained as rare without using a Battle-Stone.

(Much of this data is taken from WarcraftPets.)

Ammen Vale Lashling - Crimson Lasher is always rare.
Spirit of Summer - Searing Scorchling is always rare, and Fel Flame is wild and can be rare.
Teldrassil Sproutling - Jade Tentacle is always rare.
Tiny Snowman - There are no rare alternatives to this pet.
Withers - Jade Tentacle is always rare.

For folks who need stones (to upgrade your Minfernal, likely), Therazane's Throne in Deepholm is a good place to try and farm Elemental stones. They're level 22-24, and plentiful. Easy to take out with a high level team (and with 25s not leeching XP anymore, good place to level smaller pets), and high level means higher chance of dropping.

Thanks to a hotfix, the Cucciolo di Zaffiro is now also learned as Uncommon quality, and thus is a candidate for this Stone. A lucky few got Rares when they were variable in quality, but all others have been converted to Uncommon, and all new ones will forever be Uncommon. It has a unique combination of abilities.

Just a note for everyone you can purchase these by trading someone your pet, having them use the stone on them and trading it back.

Anyone know where the best to farm these specific stones? I've tried grinding on the Emerald Shale Hatchlings in Deepholm for about 10-15 hours and all that's dropped are 2x Dragonkin stones. I was under the impression that the front line pet determines what stones you have a chance to get.

Sapphire Cub and Tiny Snowman look like the only two uncommons with unique movesets, so I'd recommend using your first two of these stones on them. If you get more, you can always upgrade other pets and cage/sell them for nice gold.

I won a battle with a Water Waveling and was instantly awarded one of these stones. It was a really nice surprise.

I mention this because I didn't know they could drop from the battles themselves and there didn't seem to be any information about this in any of the comments above.

Using the Pietra Evolutiva Rara Elementale

1. Go to your pet journal then select and summon the pet you want to upgrade.
2. Target the pet you summoned in step 1.
3. Right click on the Pietra Evolutiva Rara Elementale in your inventory.
4. Don't panic - your pet still seems to be same quality and you suspect you wasted your stone - but....
5. Dismiss and summon again to see your shiny, rare quality (blue), lean, mean, fighting machine.

You CAN farm a specific type of Battle-Stone by battling pets of that same type. While you may occasionally receive some other type of stone, you definitely have a higher chance of receiving an aquatic stone by fighting aquatic pets, for example. I kept reading people say that the type of battle pet you fight has nothing to do with the type of Battle-Stone you receive, and that it's completely random. My experience had shown that not to be true, so I decided to do some testing and post my results in case anyone wanted to farm for a specific type of Battle-stone.

Battling Aquatic pets (which have 3 aquatic pets about 50% of the time, and 2 aquatic/1 flying about 50% of the time.) My results: 178 battles = 6 Aquatic stone, 1 Flying stone, 1 Humanoid stone

Battling Flying pets (which have 3 flying pets about 50% of the time, and 2 flying/1 aquatic about 50% of the time.) My results: 142 battles = 3 Flying stone, 1 Aquatic stone, 1 Critter stone, 1 Flawless Battle-Stone (which can be used on anything)

Battling Critter pets which usually have all Critters, and occasionally have a Beast in the group. My results: 96 battles = 3 Critter stone, 1 Beast stone

As you can see, it would appear that you can indeed farm a certain kind of stone. Just find an area where you want to level your lowbie pets that has the type of critters consistent with the stone you need the most of (usually Beast, Flying or Critter, since these types have the most pets that cannot be obtained above Uncommon quality.) Also, remember that if you've got one or two stones of a type you don't need, you can farm the additional one(s) to make 3, and then trade them in for a Marked Flawless Battle-Stone that can be used for any pet. If you're finding a lot of these, but want to upgrade a different-type pet, you can trade three of any family-specific battle stones to Audrey Burnhep (Stormwind 69.4, 25.1) or Varzok (Orgrimmar 52.5 59.3) for one Marked Flawless Battle-Stone.

Since AMIB hasn't been around for more then a year, I would like to continue the trend and I've finished the other pet types:

Beast
Critter
Dragonkin
Flying
Humanoid
Magic
Mechanical
Undead

For those that didn't read AMIB's post, these are lists of uncommon-only pets, with if available, alternate pets with the same type and moveset that can be obtained as rare without using a Battle-Stone.

I don't know how or why, but after killing and looting the Unbreaklable Urtz. I noticed something shiny in the middle of the ground and I clicked, got a ''looting bar'' and then I got this pet battle stone? Very kind of you blizz but I can't find no info about this online haha ^^
