Honestly the most annoying quest! The drop rate is horrible, I am currently getting 1 feather every 15-20 kills.

this quest is bull not only is the drop rate lower then rare mounts half the mobs are evade bugged out with half health

Easily the most frustrating daily of MoP. Avoid until hotfixed.

1. The drop rate for the Pristine Golden Crownfeather is about 5%, so be prepared to kill around 100 Child of Chi-Ji to get the 5 you need. EDIT: I see the listing stating 9% currently, it was 5% at the original time of posting, so it's possible the drop rate has been increased.
2. The mobs have a VERY short leash, so do not try and pull from range or they will evade bug on you. Make your pull from about 10 feet and you'll never have any problems.
3. Once you have the five you need, DO NOT TELEPORT/HEARTH/FLY BACK TO LION'S LANDING. The turn-in for the quest is a Mound of Dirt just south of the Temple of the Red Crane (NE of the Cradle of Chi-Ji).
4. This quest does NOT award rep with Operation: Shieldwall, nor any other faction.

contacted with a gm about the low drop rate, i was told the developers are aware of this issue and they are reviewing to quests for patch 5.2.

Just did the quest today and have additional comments. Drop rate wasn’t too bad and if you stick to the shore it's pretty short work.

Keep to the shore line! There are less psychopathic students and the evade bug seems to trigger far less, in fact it didn't happen once to me on the shoreline.
As noted they have a short aggro lease. Also even if you have aggro they may suddenly decide they are too far from home and head back. Start your attack at close range
If they are currently hunting (killing a frog for instance) they can't be tagged.
They may evade at random even with all of the above.
I found it helps to think of it as not a terrible drop rate but rather an opportunity to collect 2 bags of groceries for tokens.

The best place is definitely on the north side of the island, on the beach. Much less Students of Chi-ji, and many more cranes. As an added bonus, it's much flatter and easier to traverse.

You will get about 20 wildfowl breast per feather, so at least if you need ironpaw tokens it can work out for you to turn those into bundles of groceries.

As of today (first day of 5.2) based on what others have previously found the drop rate to be, it is worse. I have killed around 80-100 of these birds and have received one single feather. Two hours of nonstop farming and I have received 900% more green items than feathers. Dropping this quest. I want my two hours back.

On the positive side, I'm not seeing an issue with evading, even as a hunter shooting from max range.

Second day of 5.2. Got the lot within about 60 kills and half an hour. Not so bad. 3 dirt piles and plenty of valuable trash and wildfowl breast while I was at it. At Cradle of Ch-Ji

Not sure if it was just luck, but I got all 5 Piuma Dorata Intattas after only 11 kills. There is a ghostly crane that runs around the island. When I got hit by it I glowed red for a few seconds. While glowing I killed a crane and it dropped the Piuma Dorata Intatta. Seemed to happen after each time. But may have just been luck
