This item is excellent for flag defense in Arathi Basin. If your location is overwhelmed, gulp the potion and it will keep the flag from being captured until reinforcements arrive or you are killed.

Notice the cooldown is 3 secs, tied with elixirs/flasks, so chain-chugging these for AoE damage is nice for classes without AoE.

A little thing you also might not know, this effect can crit! I used a stack of 5 at big pulls in Uldaman, and it critted around 80+, would be cool if it popped an ignite, but guess that isn't possible, anyone to confirm?

Amazingly good for AoE grinding as a pally even at 70. With AW running had the tick on these crit for 110+. Well worth the small amount you can usually buy them for on the AH.

I decided to test Oil of Immolation to see if it benefitted from mages' Fire talents, after finding that the Midsummer AoE damage buff could trigger the Impact talent.

Tested on dummies in UC using my mage. He simply used an Oil and stood next to the dummies without attacking or doing anything else. Oil of Immolation can indeed trigger Impact. I also noticed an unusually high incidence of crits (75 damage rather than 50), so it's possible any crit bonuses you have are also applied to Oil of Immolation.

Sadly, because damage remained at a constant 50 (or 75) as described in its tooltip, Oil of Immolation does not benefit from spellpower bonuses.

Guessing that fire-based talents from other classes will work on Oil of Immolation, this info can be useful for shamans and warlocks.

For Engineers, a simple macro for min/maxing AoE between abilties:

Yeah, it won't do much more damage, but it doesn't burn the GCD so it's kinda nice to use, if the cost is cheap, and you can afford the bag space

It DOES break any attempts to capture a flag in the battlegrounds, so it is wonderful for defending a note(you have to stick to the flag, since it is only 5yd radius)

Be aware that first tick goes 3 seconds after the consumption.
