This is just a fun toy, one of many added in the MoP expansion. Place it on the ground and you can right click it to 'spit' into it. So can other people.

it seems that a recent change has made it impossible to rapid fire spit into the spittoon... now you can only spit about once per second. :(

It seems hostile mobs are not a fan of spittoons, as they will attack it on sight (given they are not already attacking something else). Maybe you could use it to pull a boss every 10 minutes, sure why not.

I would like to keep all of those funny toys that MoP bring to us, but i cant handle all of space needed. A pity.

Would be nice if blizzard make any solution to free some space of tabards, archeology gadgets and other funny stuff like it .

Complete waste of inventory space! Safe to delete, it is just one of those 'toys'. I would like to hear about ANY useful, interesting or fun ways to use this... (See comment by TheFartMaster)

I realize this doesn't mention "tobacco" at all, but if you've ever been around someone who chews and spits...anything...you know how utterly disgusting this thing really is. Aaaaaaaaaaagh-PTOOIE!

This item's name is probably a reference to the Elfquest character Shushen, though he was not known for a tobacco-chewing habit.
