Considering how few of these bastards there are in this area, Blizzard should really increase the droprate. I prioritized getting the Gizzards, but still ended up with all the other required quest items at least 30 minutes before getting my last Gizzard.
Unless you have a lot of patience you might as well skip the Vulture's Vigor quest, because it's probably going to take you quite some time getting 10 Gizzards.

I just killed 16 Black Slayers without a single gizzard drop. Have fun with this.

I normaly farm these and the other items for 5 quests but the hard part is that you need the most of these and have the smallest amount of mobs to get it from :( so if you skip Vulture's Vigor (cuz you need 10 of those for that quest) then you only need 4 Vigors for two other quests, then you should be fine.
Also remember a imperfect Draenethyst Fragment for delivery to the goblin standing at 51,33 :) Good xp for just deliver one of those babys and they never cost that much on AH either so its a win/win xD

The reported drop rate of 1/3 does seem a bit... optimistic.

If you DO need to collect these, set up shop at 45,45. Two buzzards regularly appear on each side of the road, and a small hollow nearby at 54,44 houses two more.

If you farm it for your twink 150 mana libram, by all means come on a main/alt that has mining. There is a lot of mithril nodes here, so the hour you are going spend in Blasted Lands can at least give you 100+ g.

Awful, awful, awful drop rate. 33% is definitely not correct!
The only upside was, that in the roughly 1.5 hours it took me to gather a total of 14 Gizzards, I also got 36x , around 40x , 13x and 50x ...

Perhaps I was lucky, but while the number of spawns is awful, I collected 14 in only 15 minutes, while killing the other stuff along the way.

TBH I think the drop rate is accurate. I just think that because of the lack of spawns, it can take forever. If you're soloing, it shouldn't be a problem. I'm doing this quest in a duo, and its taking forever, even though we can camp a couple of the spans :)

From my experience with this quest, there are 8 spawn points:

Combine this with the fact that the drop rate is terrible AND you need more of these than any other item and this quest is a pain in the ass.

I ended up having to skip Vulture's Vigor. I farmed up all the other required items (11 Basilisk Brains, 6 Blasted Boar Lung, 6 Scorpok Pincers, and 5 Snickerfang Jowls) and made sure to kill every Vulture I saw in the process. Once I had finished this, I only had 5 Gizzards so I stayed and killed birds for like 20 minutes, only came up with 1 gizzard in that time (about 20 kills), and decided to say screw it.

If you do skip Vulture's Vigor, at least take the time to farm 4 of the Gizzards. Otherwise you'll have to skip 2 other quests as well. You should come up with 4 while farming the rest anyway.

I'm not sure whether these are tradable on the AH or not. It doesn't say Soulbound but there weren't any in my server's AH either.

I got most of the gizzards from the mob which spawns at 55.0, 36.0. Combined with the rest of the killing quests I just kept running round, returning to this spot every so often to pick off the respawn. Got 7 out of the 10 from this particular spot.

This appears to be a dead item as of the Cata upgrade as the NPC's that accepted it no longer exist. They used to be in a little compound located at 47, 12 in the Blasted Lands. When I tried to vendor the ones I had collected pre-Cata, the vendor would not accept them.
