Increases riding speed by 8% (as far as I know), stacks with Riding Speed Enchant (gloves, enchant) and Carrot on a Stick. Travelling fast is useful for general purposes and PVP (pursuing or escaping).

It doesnt increase riding speed by 8%. It's less than 3% mate =D.

Riding crop does not stack with carrot on a stick, mithril spurs or the enchant. once u get your riding crop thts it.

Another great benifit of these items, as a strange side effect, is that they also increase the movement speed of the flight path mounts.

Can be attached through Trade Window by blacksmither like enchant using "Will not be traded" slot.

Not disenchantable, however still the a great recipe for powerleveling blacksmithing as mithril and thorium prices are outrageous on most realms. Got mine for 40g which is well worth it compared to the amount I would have had to spend on thorium.

Edit: The below info is no longer valid as Blizzard changed the numbers for professions to better suit the faster leveling experience

Yellow at 255
- At this point on average it should still give a skillup about 75% of the times you make it, making it a better choice than any other mithril recipes at this level.
Yellow at 260
- This was a turning point to me and i only got points between 33 and 50% of the times. Not worth it anymore.
Green at 265
- Stopped making them

Not hardly noticed with your 100% mount
but 60% mount i noticed it alot...

Sooo.. 60% flight applies here too, u can really feel the impact
but epic flight its harder to tell. better get a crop for epic flight

I say this cuz the spurs are alot cheaper then the crop
so u dont really wanna buy one for 60% flight
but the spurs work great
when im flying far ill just swap in an old pair of greens i had with the spurs on it
and swap it back out when i get to where im going (3500G almost there woot)

Using carbonites mini-map speedo(which is quite accurate). it looks like Mithril spurs give you 8% increase instead of 4% as a previous poster said. but as there is no offical indication as to how much it does infact give you its either between 4% - 8%.

Taken from 2.4.2 PTR notes:

Items that enchant other items no longer have tradeskill requirements (Mithril Spurs, Shield Spikes, Weapon Chains, etc.).

As of patch 2.4.2 enchant text changed to "+4% Mount Speed".
No longer requires Blackmithing skill.

WARNING ! seems like this don't do any speed increase for hunters with Animal Handler !

and i just checked in 2 ways:
carbonite quest (it reports ONLY 116%)
and by measuring time between two poins
with boots on and off !

i can't check for paladins, but i bet that it is the same :(

Since this doesn't say that it doesn't work on characters above lvl70 like the Carrot or the Crop, will we see another revival of supposedly outdated recipes? :P

Just tested it with the SpeedyGonzales addon, it does NOT work over level 70.

I guess the tooltip begs for an update nowadays.

These modify your mounted speed to be +67% according to the speed tracker on carbonite.

The math works if you count your total traveling speed of 100% (your normal speed) + 60% (your mounted speed bonus).

160% *1.04 = 166.4% I suppose either blizz or carbonite rounds up. But the final mounted speed bonus with these equipped will be + 66-67%.

For leveling, this is a GREAT enchant to put on lvl28 (or any higher for that matter) arathi basin boots. You'll have +8% runspeed AND +4% riding speed all in one boot. :)

Best use of these I have found is to put them on a pair of lvl 20 cloth boots of common (white) quality. The equipment manager makes gear switching easy; so make a riding set. You can then send them back and forth to different alts of the same faction and when you are done sell them on the AH. You will only need to buy one set of spurs for all of your pre-71 alts (unless you regularely switch back and forth in which case you can mail them back and forth along with your heirloom trinks). You will need to quest the Carrot on a Stick for each character though.

does the speed increase show on character speed? with and without mine says 220, or doesn't it work on ground mounts?

As of 5.0.4, these appear to only work on ground-only mounts.

I have the spurs on an un-guilded, level 48 mage, and the speed display in the character page only shows 208% speed if I'm using a ground mount (i.e. a mammoth, a bear, a raptor). Using the Headless Horseman's Mount, Winged Guardian, etc, I only see 200% speed.

They aren't worth it for guilded characters because of the Mount Up guild perk overwriting the speed from the spurs.
