As Expertise will give the same Hit in MoP, casters could find this gem useful (think on Ghost Iron Dragonling for an engineer having his engineering-only glasses for a total of 5 cogwheel sockets filled with different unique-equipped cogwheels).

I really don't get why bithalver was downrated, expertise does work on a caster as hit if you really are starved for other options. This cogwheel is the only option for a caster too if you use both the helmet and the trinket. Your cogwheels will be hit, crit, haste, mastery and expertise.

If you think expertise is useless, go try to reforge an item with hit and another stat. Reforge the hit to expertise, and your hit will stay the same. Reforge the other stat, and you have a lot of hit from just one item.

This item, unlike all of the other cogwheels, can be crafted without an anvil as of 5.0.5.

As of Patch 5.0.4, Expertise also increases Spell Hit by the same amount.

This item is not limited to use by engineers like previous cogwheels have been. You simply need non-engineer bound gear that has a cogwheel socket to use it (e.g. Ghost Iron Dragonling).

Be careful to note that this item is Unique-Equipped. The Unique-Equipped limitation is for the specific cogwheel though, and not the set, so you may use other Tinker's Gear cogwheels with this one (e.g. Fractured Tinker's Gear (+600 Mastery), Flashing Tinker's Gear (+600 Parry), Rigid Tinker's Gear (+600 Hit), and Subtle Tinker's Gear (+600 Dodge)).
