Confirmed to drop from boss. We had 1 on our Beth'tilac 25 man kill.

Doesn't work for me. I've got about 60 orbs rotting in my bags across all my characters. Meanwhile, my tailor is crying, cause my tailor could use the choas orbs.

Yes, they should be BoA at least ...that way i can run heroics on my geared engineer and then pass those orbs to my other undergeared crafters.

At least these embers are not BoP.

Eternal Ember , Though not showing as boP infact ARE. They can be Master looted IF the threshold is rare or lower. They have only been seen by bosses as of now, not trash. These have nothing to do with primordials and are not purchasable with jp, vp, cp, or hp. You want tier 1 staff? RAID!

Living Ember However, is in some ways similar to the primordials. They also drop from bosses as confirmed in a comment, currently are NOT purchasable on any vendors, are BOE, and used only for crafting.

Keep in mind as far as vendors go nobody has unlocked all of the molten front vendors. It is very possible *(supposition!) that there will be a vp vendor locked away somewhere 2 weeks down the line that will have these for sale. This would allow the truly insane to craft what they want and get it first through spending 8 million gold on ones that drop before anyone else, but then unlock it to the masses a short time after.

I can only assume that these have a much higher drop rate on 25 man from looking at the drop rates listed here. 5 boss kills on 10 man reg now and 0 living embers--according to these supposed drop rates we should have seen at least two. I'm not sure if this is a bug, or what, but it is making 10 man raiders suffer which is something Blizz has said since December they do not want to do.

edit: these have finally started dropping with a little more regularity. idk what was going on.

Since 8/7/2011 these have started to appear on many realms Auction House for less than 10k each.

I bought 20 Living Ember's on my realm for 8k each. Over the past three days 50 Living Ember's have been listed on my realm.

Later while playing on another realm I saw 20 listed on the AH for 9k.

Checking realm progression for my realm and another realm there is not enough progression to even account for so many Living Ember's.

I think either there is an exploit to gain these, or gold sellers are using them to transfer gold easily.

You can use the Undermine Journal website to see which realm have these level 1 sellers selling these in bulk for 5k - 10k each.

I imagine the idea Blizzard is striking for is to make Chaos Orbs be consistent across all tiers of gear for Cataclysm, but also providing a secondary "orb"-esque item (Living Ember, in this case). This essentially "forces" people that raid back into Heroics, thus keeping them relevant regardless of your gear level.

I needed 24 of these, so I bought 20 of them from some guy who was advertising on the trade channel. I've been working the trade skills and auction house hard in order to afford them. I paid about an average price for them.

I figured that he was selling for some raiding guild that wanted cash, or else he'd transferred his toon and wanted to avoid the 50,000G transfer cap. But, then I asked him how he managed to get so many. He said a friend gave them to him.

What? No. That was a lie, and a bad one, too.

So, I reported him. I was worried that he'd hacked an account with access to the bank of some raiding guild. Or several....

Now my account is perma-banned for gold-selling activity. Oops. Apparently, he really was up to no good, but I got caught in the blast radius because of my huge transaction with the guy.

I've submitted an appeal ticket, and expect to get my account back in a few hours, but ouch. Be careful.

Followup: The account was restored three hours after I appealed. Blizzard apologized and compensated the account with 48 hours of game time.

On Nesingwary server these things go on the AH for 16k each (and that's currently an all time LOW sale rate.) It's just phenomenally stupid. All recipes that use them require four... who the hell is going to spend 64000 gold on JUST *these* mats to craft a 378 item?

FWIW, I know AH prices vary from server to server, but in the last week, these have dropped to 850g buyout on my server. These used to go for about 10k each when they were 1st available (I don't know if people actually bought them, that was just the asking price on the AH).

On Ragnaros (alliance) the price for one of these, vary from 500 to 700 g, so the price have lowered a lot since the upper post, for my server that is :)

The Price on Shattered Halls EU was 25 gold each. Quite a drop.

I just bought 15 of these on the AH for 750g for the bundle...I think someone was uninformed to the value of these items.

On my server theses have dropped in price considerably since 4.3 dropped. On my ah they are now going for 20 gold a piece. Not sure if thats just us or if its all servers.

Nerfed in patch 6.1 to sell for 20s instead of 7g each

I ran 25 heroic on twelve different characters this week and only got three of these. Seems like the drop rate got a mega nerf for some bizarre reason :(
