Many thinks that you can get into the back door by die in gnomeregan just after the front door and then go trought the Workshop port as a ghost but you need to use the key to the entrance And to a port into the instance.

it drops off of the Electrocutioner. In the part of Gnomeregan that you enter when you go down the elevator (NOT in the instance), if you go north, in the circular area, one will trail off and go nowhere. If you go through it, you will be confronted with a large wall called the workshop door. You may open it with this key. It cuts off quite a bit of the trip through the instance, and gets you close to where you can get your prisimatic punching card for the quest. The path into the main instance is guarded, so you still need a party. By the way, when this drops, everyone in the party can loot it, so it makes copies of itself so everyone can have it.

This key is used twice in gnomeregan.
First time to open the back door and then again a little in,
so you cant cheat by going through while dead.

to get to the door u need to go straight all the way and when the way ending u need to look left ant the door is there

I find it funny that it says "This item is no longer available within the game." but i just looted it twice in a row on two separate gnomeregan runs. So I guess I should just destroy them? Since they are pretty much of no use to me.

They say it's no longer available in the game, yet i got it in patch 5.2...

EDIT: Everytime you do Gnomeregan, one drops per person, so I think they may have put it back by accident...

I too have looted this item several times today, as of patch 5.2. Does anyone know if they are able to be used again? I have just ignored them because I don't know what to do with it...

This key just dropped for me in 5.2. But, it de-spawned from my bags as soon as I left Gnomeregan.

Fun fact: This item has not been available for players for a long time(because of it's removal).
It just dropped for me today. No @#$%, I looted it off, one of the mobs, can't remember if it was a boss, or just a normal mob.
Once I had it looted, I checked my bagpack, to secure that I had the loot. I quickly went to www.wowhead.com to see if this item really still did exist.. I saw, that it's been removed, and when I went back into WoW, the item was gone, from my bagpack..
This key really is a boogieman. Sometimes it's there.. Other times, it's gone.. Like a ghost.. Or a rogue!

There are more items like this which are not supposed to be in the game anymore. Most dungeons (like gnomeregan and wailing caverns) have bosses which drop items which are supposed to be out of the game.

This says that the item is no longer in the game but its wrong, it still drops, for me it just dropped from Electrocutioner 6000. :)

This item still drops, I picked it up today 4-29-13,
It is a unique item with no sale value but it is still there.
Can confirm de-spawned from inventory as soon as I left the instance.

I just received one today on my newest character on Trollbane. This key is still dropping at the same location.

This is one of the quest objects that became obsolete with Cataclysm and were presumed removed, but started dropping again when something got reactivated with 5.2 in MoP. Scheggia Brillante from Wailing Caverns is another one.

They're still not used for anything, just ignore them.

confirmed indeed!,the key still drops in the instance...how I know? Well because I am there right now and looking at the shiny key lol

Still, available, still works from the inside. The back instance exit takes you to the Gnome start area. The room it used to take you to is gone; it now leads to the two staircases by what used to be the door to the room, looking out on the big two level battle area.

The key disappeared as I exited the instance by the back exit, but the doors remained unlocked for me, and I was able to walk back in. I imagine that means that it always disappears when you exit, so would be useless for entering from the back entrance otherwise.

Not so much "Not available ..." as "Not particularly useful ..." and "Of no real value ...:" Very tossable for the bag space it takes.

Still drops in 6.2.3, however it has no longer has a use and can be tossed.

As of 7.0, this item still drops. Only this time, it stayed in my bags after I left the instance. Wonder if it's used for something now...after all, they did bring back the punch cards for the mechanical hunter pets.

Edit: After fully logging out of the game, then coming back, the item disappears from my bags.

Edit: Leaving the instance, the item was still in my bag. Logging out and back in after a couple hours... the item was no longer in my bag after 15 minutes or more. Acts like a conjured item.
