The person who eats the cookie gets the card that was inside. So there's a small chance at a card that can sell from 4 silver to 5000g when you eat one of these for the buff. See Mysterious Fortune Card

What I find really odd about this item is that you get to keep the fortune card. That's not weird in and of itself, but looking at the mats, all there then is is Simple Flour. Since you keep the card, the only thing you're actually eating is the cookie created by the single Simple Flour. Therefore, one of the best foods in the game is created by using just flour, a cheap item available since Vanilla.

They've been holding out on us, huh...

On a serious note, how does the game determine which stat to give. Obviously it should give Agility to agility classes, strength to strength classes, but I'm most curious about Healers, as we benefit from Intellect and Spirit.

I made a stack of these to try out. After using 8 of them, I got one card worth 20g and 7 cards for 10s. Every single time I got the well fed buff, I got 90 dodge... as a moonkin druid. I gave the rest of the stack to my DK friend who also got dodge every time he used them for the rest of the stack.

So much for "and 90 of another useful stat."

Anyway, I'm starting to think this food well fed bonus is bugged.

It's supposed to give us an useful stat, right?
And it should work like the Broiled Dragon Feast, but both give wrong stats bonus.

Last night I was handing out cookies and everyone in the group got stats that made sense, except the mage. He consistently got dodge of all things. Now, he does fancy himself a bit of a "mage tank" but it does seem there is a bit of a bug here.

I can confirm the existence of the 5k card. In a dungeon yesterday, one of the party members got one from the fortune cookie. I saw it with my own eyes in the chat box! I didn't know about the fortune cookie at that time. I was amazed that he created something worth so much , so I asked him about . : D

Pretty sure you don't have Flour available in Vanilla - you have to grow different plants. They're called Wheat, I think.
Unless I'm mistaken and there is something like Vanilla Flour. Oh well...

Vanilla is a reference to the Original World of Warcraft game, before The Burning Crusade expansion was released.

I can confirm from personal experience you can get the 5000g card from these - first try on Conclave of the winds I sat down to eat my buff food and read my fortune to see a purple card. Also for those interested as a Frost DK I get strength, in blood spec I get dodge and on my holy paladin I get intellect (not seen any get spirit so far).

This is an absolutely incredible item if you're an altoholic like me. I can make scads of buff food for my Priest, Mage and upcoming Warlock, don't have to farm for those blasted pool-less Deepsea Sagefish, and any money that may come from the cards goes right back to me!

Actually sell these babies? Nuh-uh!

Does it know if I'm a prot or holy paladin? Or does it just give strenght to plate, int to caster, and so on?

And once again, Healers get screwed.

Think about it:
Being stronger in bed? Good!
Being more agile in bed? Awesome!
Being more skillful/intelligent in bed? Always fun!
Being able to "last longer"? Who doesn't want that?
Having more spirit? Sorry, no points for "almost", friends!

The way you put it, it sounds like healers aren't getting screwed very often at all.

Quite irritating to hear people complain about this and other items or effects giving Intellect instead of Spirit to healers since there's a point where more Spirit is useless, while more Intellect is always good, I personally always use Intellect flasks and foods since I already have a high amount of Spirit and never go out of mana, it's a matter of having a certain number of spirit trinkets and reforging your items to a certain amount of spirit, remember, with each content patch, spirit will become less valuable as you will need to heal more not over longer periods of time.

Why would anyone ever take Spirit over Intellect as a healer? Primary stats for casters are pretty much always more powerful than secondary stats. It's why they're called primary, and spirit is called a secondary.

Secondarily, generally speaking, you should never reforge into spirit, cause spirit should just be on your gear anyways. Gives me the impression some people are doin' it wrong.

I can see you used to get a fortune card from a fortune cookie but now you need a mysterious fortune card to MAKE a cookie! And yo don't get the card back when you eat the cookie! Ugh! I made one but I won't be making any more! Correction: I DID get a fortune card but you do have to purchase the mysterious fortune card which isn't cheap.

I have commissioned an addon to be made to track the odds of the cards you get when eating Fortune Cookies and flipping Mysterious Fortune Cards. I have also set up a website to post the findings of the flips. Currently my sample size is very small, but I hope when the addon gets more popular it will grow to knowing the odds with near certainty.

Through an entrepreneur's point of view and through personal experience these cookies sell generally better than their non-edible counter-parts. While everyone loves the opportunity of making money from low-risk, albeit sometimes costly prices (depending on the amount people sell them for), a good amount of players tend to stray away from gambles. It's obvious that more people will be inclined to purchase the food for the primary effect and ulterior monetary reward. As for the actually process of making them, there are two ways; farm the mats (Whiptail and Twilight Jasmine have more pigment output than the rest of cata herbs) or buy the mats off the AH. Whiptail is found in a relatively condensed path in Uldum so farming will be quick and players will generally sell it cheap on the AH. Number crunch to find out if you can make a good profit from buying herbs and crafting them into pigments->inks->cards/cookies. Your sales will change depending on the players so everything here is situational so this endeavor may or may not be worth your time; however, if you're interested in making money this is still viable as of this patch. Good luck.

TL;DR

Check your AH for cards and cookies, compare prices of the two to each other and to raw materials; determine how cheaply you can make cards. Either farm the mats (I recommend Whiptail) or buy them off the AH

Try to sell the cards but if players keep under-cutting you, switch to the cookies and increase your prices.

Time is your friend; don't always undercut, if someone undercuts you for 10g cheaper but only puts up two stacks, keep yours on the AH and just wait, you could even buy someone out (much like company buy-outs)

Be witty on the trade chat, I've sold cards/cookies primarily just because of interesting advertisements: i.e "Owe the Defias some unpaid debts? Avoid broken limbs by winning (Fortune Card) from (Mysterious Fortune Card) on AH now!"

I bought some of these from the auction house right before the raid. During the raid i ate one and i got the "Many raid wipes are in your immediate future." fortune card...
Frankly it became true, as we wiped at least 20 times that night in the Firelands... never... ever... will i take this food with me on raid...until next time :))

Since 6.0 (as of today), this actually gives you a bigger buff than Zuppa di Spaghetti di Riso del Tesoro, which I suspect will get hotfixed soon, or perhaps it's too short a time frame for Blizz to care before WoD comes out.

And it's awesome as sometimes you get quite an expensive card to vendor :)
