Very inconvenient for warlocks that this recipie drops so infrequently, as these robes are needed for a warlock quest chain that ends with a nice robe that will last for a few levels. http://www.wowhead.com/?quest=1796

It is beyond annoying to get this recipie to drop. Your best bet is to go to the tower of Althaxx in Darkshore, and kill the high lvl enchanters there. The enchanters in Duskwood pop too infrequently, and with too many other NPCs around them.

Farmed the recipe from the Voidcallers in the tower of Althaxx in Darkshore, took about 55 kills. So not impossible to get, just time consuming and a long run if your horde.

Tried farming this pattern for my upcoming Warlock.

After spending a couple hours at the farms in Duskwood, went back the following day and logged in two high level two toons, one in the Tower and one at the farms.

I found that clearing Yorgen's Farmstead then riding to Addle's Stead and riding back after clearing that area, I could log in at the Tower to a fresh spawn. After clearing the Tower, log back into Duskwood and Yorgens Farmstead would have respawned. Rinse and repeat.

After doing this, the pattern eventually dropped after approx 2 hours at Addle's Stead in Duskwood

I've farmed both places. Once to help a horde friend. And today (02Jul07) to help an Alliance friend.

The first time I went to Duskwood with my horde friend. We spent about 2+ hours there. I finally asked my horde friend where the other place was, and we went to Darkshore. Within 20 minutes we had the pattern drop.

Today, having learned from my past experience, I took my Alliance friend straight to Darkshore. We farmed for 37 minutes (I am lvl 48 he is lvl 42).

Now, I don't know why this happened. But we went in the tower, killed the roaming one: she dropped the pattern. We killed the one by the chair on the same ground level: she dropped ANOTHER pattern.

Thats two patterns in 37 minutes. Darkshore is your best bet for farming this. I understand that horde isn't really welcomed in Darkshore. But believe me. It is worth the trouble to swim the sea or hug the mountains to get to the tower.

Alliance hardly ever goes to the tower!

Got two, just now! Tried farming at Tower of Althalaxx for a couple of hours. No go. So I logged out and switched to one of my lowbies. Was about to sleep but thought, "What the heck - just one more try." Now I got two, in succession! And first run to boot. hahaha Hmm..maybe I'll try for a third. One for my tailor, one for my faction AH and one for Booty Bay. lol

i've been farming these as a lvl 66 shaman for over two hours, in the Tower of Althalaxx... i can kill them in one hit, sometimes two, so it's real fast... still no drop. i'll update whenever i finally do get it... hopefully soon!

Just got the drop from a Voidcaller in the Tower of Althalaxx. Think I cleared it about 5 or 6 times on my 59 orc hunter twink. After each clear, logged into an alt and quested, and every time I took the alt back to town to turn in quests or empty inventory, would log into the hunter and clear the tower again.

As usual some of you don't seem to get how probability works so you assume just because it dropped for you quickly at one location that it means there's a higher drop rate for those mobs. Look at the numbers, they're almost identical. So really the consideration regarding where to farm the pattern should be based on which location is easiest for you to get to, whether it's already camped by someone else, and whether you can readily kill the mobs in question. If the voidcallers are proving tricky, just go to duskwood. You might get lucky and have them drop quickly, you might have to kill thousands of VCs or DEs to get the pattern. That's the nature of probability for you.

I killed 3 Defias Enchanters at Yorgen Farmstead in Duskwood and got it easily. Farming the pattern from the black widows on the eastern side took much longer.

I have farmed this for two warlock characters, one Alliance and one Horde. I've always had good luck getting it from the Defias Enchanters, whereas I have spent hours farming the mobs in Darkshore without luck. There are only about three enchanters in the whole zone, but the respawn is fairly fast and you can kill other Defias for cloth while you wait. Also, the Enchanters are a lower level mob than the warlocks you have to kill in Darkshore.

For Horde, the Enchanters are closer to get to as well.

I farmed it at Addle's Stead. It only took me about 25 minutes. Maybe I was lucky or they adjusted the drop rate during a patch. It wasn't too bad, the enchanters spawn relatively quick.

I first went to look for this pattern in Duskwood, I had two 70's and a fellow 32 along as escorts to help blow threw the mobs.
We bounced back and forth between the two farming locations, and after about 2hrs nothing, we finally had to leave when three Alliance 70's rolled in and camped us.

So the next night I decided to solo my way up to Darkshore, im not sure if my way is the fastest / safest but I decided to go out to Zoram Stand and head north along the coast. Im a lvl 32 Warlock so the one nice thing is the "Unending Breath" spell. I was able to swim along the coast and avoid any Mobs or other enemy players that might have been there.

After about 15min I made it to the tower where the Darkstrand Voidcallers are located and I began the task of killing them. Now the level varies from 28-31 on them so I had to be careful not to draw in to many at a time which is not easy with the tight area of the tower. I died about 4 times while killing the Callers, but after about 1 1/2hrs the pattern dropped.

I suggest going to Darkshore while trying to find this drop, its in Alliance territory but its a low level area for them, and in the 2hrs I spent in the area I only saw one enemy player who was a lvl 19 druid, other than that nothing but NPC's. Either wait till youre a 33+ to do this farm easier alone, or take an equal level friend along for the task.

Well as I'm a warlock I needed it also and i didn't want to buy so i went tower of Althaxx in Darkshore. I did kill Dark Strand Voidcaller around 40 min. Then I had to do some other stuff so i logged off. When i did log on i killed 2 of them and did get the pattern. So under 1 hour. I suppose i was lucky. If u enter in the last floor be careful to not to pull too many mobs on U.

I was lvl 35.

It took me about 5-6 clearings of the tower in Darkshore for this pattern to drop. While farming for it, I also got the Hands of Darkness pattern. This was on the Ysondre server.

I farmed this pattern for about 3 hours this morning, running between Addles and Yorgens. I gave up and tried it out again tonight, after about 5 minutes the pattern dropped at Addles. The respawn rate was really quick, as soon as I finished with one area and ran to the other, they were all back.

For some reason I was insistent on finding this pattern. The Tower Althaxx in Darkshore is the best place to farm this, I tried both. Not only do you get experience if you are higher level (I was 36 while farming it) but you don't have to run back and forth between farms. The spawn rate is quick in the tower, and even though the drop rate is stated as a bit lower, you can kill a lot of them a lot faster than the enchanters in Duskwood. Didn't have a single Ally bug me while I was in the tower, only saw a couple of low levels on the way through the territory. Took me about two hours at the tower to get, also picked up a bunch of greenies to disenchant and silk to tailor with, so bring your tailoring supplies! Saw the pattern on AH for 350g buyout on Frostmane right after I found them - I plan on selling the robes on AH for slightly below market value(8-10g).

I plan to make these robes to sell on AH. It took me about 10 runs through the Tower of Althalaxx to get this recipe to drop. I kept my high level hunter parked in the tower and bounced between killing the Dark Strand Voidcallers and opening Cat Figurines to get a Ghost Saber.

I'm a lvl 34 'lock, and I've tried farming in both places without success so far. I tried Duskwood first--farmed there for a couple hours. The advantage with Duskwood is the mobs are low enough that you won't die if you pull 3 or 4 of them (and with lots of wide open space you probably won't).

Then last night I tried Darkshore. It took me forever to get up there (I did get a couple flight paths on the way), and I opted to swim from Zoram'gar Outpost. It was safe, but very slow. I farmed the tower for about 2 hours and died and died until my gear was just about to fail. No drop.

I ran back and forth a lot in both places (running from graveyard to tower in Darkshore, and between Yorgen's Farmstead and Addle's Stead in Duskwood). Obviously, if you can stay alive in Darkshore (with help from a friend, for example), you'll run less. I imagine the drop rate is about the same in either place, so it comes down to preference.

In short:
If you want xp, mobs close together with quick respawn--and you don't mind dying a few times while you're at it, then do Althaxx Tower.

If you are willing to go without the xp, don't mind running back and forth, and you like to own your surroundings (solo), then farm Duskwood.

If that information about Grimtotem Geomancers now dropping the pattern is correct, that's a big boost for the Horde side. It used to be damned near impossible to get the pattern or robe for a reasonable price.

I spend FIVE hours in Duskwood farming the pattern form the dafias enchanters!! But other than the time well wasted, it was worth it, they sell well for a mid-level tailor, considering how many warlocks will want this robes for: http://www.wowhead.com/?quest=1796, which both sides do! You'll have all the warlocks on your server willing to pay anything for this stupid cloth....

Got two of the patterns while doing the Grimtotem quests in Thousand Needles. I guess I just lucked out. And the Grimtotem Geomancers are by far easier to farm than the Duskwood and Darkshore ones! Only thing to worry about on a PvP server, is if you are Alliance. Might run in to a few Horde while trying to get it

I did this as alliance, human lock, stupid thing to find, i got to lvl 33 just farming this! I reccomend thousand needles aswell, i spent a day trying duskwood but it sucked, getting to 1k needles was a pain but it was worth it, 50 minutes 'till drop! : )

I went up to Duskwood (I'm horde) to get the pattern to help a friend with his Warlock. If you are horde, don't bother ever going to Duskwood. For one thing they take forever to respawn. For two climbing up and down the stairs in the tower blows. For three Alliance have a quest here so I felt bad stealing their mobs (though their reactions to a lvl 70 horde was quite hilarious. Mad props to that lvl 25 NE hunter who attacked me anyway!) Another thing is it never dropped for me here.

If you are Horde, go to 1k needles! No exceptoins. I had it in half an hour of farming the geomancers and it didn't take forever to travel here either.

I recieved this item after the first 7 i killed, i was in the farmstead and it took about 10 minutes. No joke. the mats are easy to get, and locks are frequently asking if anyone can make them...which is a good money-maker. Quite annoying to get, at the time I had never really levelled my tailoring, I had to get it 150 for the recipe, so I spent overall 60g getting mats trying to boost it. - Best place to go to get the recipe is Althaxx in Darkshore.

(Take in to account the mobs are packed together and IMO harder to kill) - I gave up killing them because they were too hard to farm the pattern for. If you can't handle them, do make it easier for yourself and go to Addles Stead in Darkshire or the Yorgen Stead.

got this drop from Grimtotem Geomancers in 1k needles. Sad thing about it was I did the enchanted bloodrobes quest 2 days before this and paid 15g for the robes of arcana at the AH.

Actually I really lucked out getti9ng this drop, I was running someone through to finish up his quest, he forgot something and we ran back through a section of mobs and the pattern dropped.

I dont do tailoring but my roomie does so I gave him the pattern to make the robes and we'll split the profit from selling them in the AH.

I went to Thousand Needles and slayed quite a number of Grimtotems for this recipe, probably about 40 or so mobs in total. They are located on the top of the 'needles' and there are (I think) 3 different kinds of Grimtotems, including the Geomancers to kill.
If anyone wants me to make one for them, I'm a tailor and a warlock, so this worked out fairly well for me. I'm "for the Horde", on the Muradin server, name Hellizzi, send me an email if interested. ^ o ^

Don't count on being one of the lucky ones here, I farmed this pattern for 3 hours before it finally dropped in Duskwood. The best part about it was being horde how all the alliance players weren't quite sure how to react to a lvl 40+ undead lock roaming around in their lands. In the end it was worth it, a big sense of accomplishment as I did not have my guild supporting me, got this recipe solo.

Well i did it like this, went to kill http://www.wowhead.com/?npc=2337 made a macro:

/target dark strand voidcaller

Bcs when you kill them, and top flour they can spawn first at bottom and the other way around, so this is an easy way to see if they spawned or not. You dont have to run up and down all the time.

After killing about 50 of them didnt get the pattern, so i loged off, went to eat loged back in and after 4-5kills i got it.

I got this recipe as a drop at lvl 34 in Thousand Needles while doing a quest on Darkcloud Pinnacle. This dropped within the first 10 minutes of running through it. I would suggest looking there if you're having trouble. The recipe sells for quite a bit itself as well. I sold mine for over 20g.

i needed this for my warlock, but found it was easier to park my Death Knight in the Tower of Althaxx and log in between jumping around on other toons and kill all the people in the tower. After the fourth time of wiping out the tower residents the pattern dropped. So you wont have to sit there for an hour, you can spend a couple minutes at a time in there between other characters. This is a really great method if, like me, you suffer from what i call WoWADD. i dont have the patience to wait for respawns.

i went to the tower and had my first pattern on the 3rd re-spawn, then for *!@#s and giggles or maybe to make some gold, i tried for another and got it after two more re-spawns! so i may have had a little luck on this eagerly sought after pattern. ^_^

oh, oddly it happened to drop for me both times on the 3rd mob from the ground level.
so after the two on the ground the first one encountered on the stairs both times. and i did get a few other green items too, like the firestarter wand.

After reading these posts I got on my lvl 80 hunter and went to Tower of Althalaxx. I cleared it about 6 times with no drops and got bored so I went to Darkcloud Pinnacle and wasted about a half hour there with no drops. Then I went back to Althalaxx and cleared it about 4 more times before finally getting it. I wasn't about to pay 13 gold in AH for this robe! But I'll gladly sell it for 5-10g if I can.

I farmed at the Tower of Althalaxx for hours with no luck. I logged on another 80 and planned to farm both in the Tower and in Thousand Needles, but it dropped off the first mob in Thousand Needles. If you wish to farm with just yourself, and get XP while you do so, I recommend Thousand Needles I killed. The Tower of Althalaxx has too high a respawn rate for a low level, and the top of it is a death trap. The Warlocks there are harder to fight as well. You can banish their voidwalker, but they will run away from your pet, so it makes them difficult to tank without having them run into other mobs or out of LoS.

The Grimtotem camp is much more spread out, you can control the groups there a bit more, making it easier to solo around this level. Duskwood is too close together without enough mobs to keep you busy.

I got extremely lucky and found the pattern in AH for 5g being sold by a newbie I'm guessing. I had been trying to farm the pattern for 4 days with no luck. On the 5th day just decided to try AH and there it was, so I snatched it up.

These average about 21-25g on my server and I have made a killing selling these. I do sometimes give them away as well. But I have made at least 25-30 of these robes for sale, I love the Robes of Arcana.

Total crap...I spent 2 hours in Darkshore farming in the tower and this pattern finally dropped. Must have killed at least 100. Paid the outrageous fee in the AH for the spider silk and went on with the quest line. Later the same day I got board and figured I would head to Duskwood to farm some spider silk to make a few more Robes of Arcana. Got close to the Defias farm and thought I would check it out to see how the farming would have been there. Killed the Defias Enchanter in the house and nothing special dropped. Went to the barn to see if there were anymore, and sure enough the 2nd Defias enchanter I killed drops the pattern. I know someone at Blizz was sitting there going "here take this". Anyway short story long...just be ready for some long grinding for the drop unless you just get lucky :)

I recommend farming in Duskwood - lowest level and highest drop rate. Tip - kill all the Defias NPC in and around the buildings as some of them may respawn as Defias enchanters - i spent maybe 30 minutes and one dropped (as a 65 mage)

I would suggest thousand needles, searched in darkshore and duskwood, but 1000 needles is the best, got 2 patterns of robes of arcana in maybe 5 minutes playing !

I'm on Dalaran a high volume server, one was on Auction for 555g. I used trade chat and had alot of responses, sold it for 300g plus a free robe..
and on my server the spider silk is around 7-8g per.. 10 minutes in arathi killing spiders i got 4 and 2 thick spider silk.

This is a R A N D O M drop. Just because one player gets lucky and it drops in five minutes in one location doesn't mean one location is any better than the other. I had this drop of the second Voidcaller in Darkshore on my Warlock on Ghostlands but while grinding for hours on Darkmoon Faire with my DK to get it I haven't seen it yet.

Moved to Thousand Needles started killing cows. 164 Silk Cloth, 75 Wool Cloth, 5 greens and some other stuff. No pattern yet.

Second run on the cow slaugther in Thousand Needles 127 Silk Cloth. 62 Wool Cloth, 7 greens and finally the Pattern.

I started in Duskwood, running back and forth between the two farms and gave up after about an hour and a half. Then I tried Thousand Needles and gave up after 2 hours.
I tried another hour in the Tower in Duskwood and nothing.
This morning I cleared the tower twice and during the third time it finally dropped for me. It's amazing how excited one can get when you see it dropped hehe.
Make sure when you hand the robe in, to bring along a Gold Bar for the next step of the quest.

I have to agree that the drop rate may have been improved. I cleared the Tower with my 80 DK and went outside to have some fun blowing up the low levels. Went back inside, and they were still in the middle of spawning, got one pattern on the top floor, and as I came down (I am not entirely sure why I didn't hearth out immediately) I collected another.

Went to the Tower and the pattern was dropped by the 4th or 5th NPC that I killed (at the top). I did this very late at night (don't know if that makes a difference but perhaps no one else had farmed there for a while).

3x2 hours of clearing the tower and 2 hours at needles with my lvl 43 warlock resultet in 0 patterns. So the drop rate was extremely low for me :(
Lucked out at hte auction house, and got it for 3g. With the robes currently going for 10-12g it was an extremely profitable buy.

Nothing anyone farming it can do will improve your chances of getting this to drop. As uffe stated, it's random so it's purely luck if it drops for you quickly.

I was farming the Tower of Althalaxx with my 33 lock for nearly 3 hours and it didn't drop. Took a break to travel to 1k Needles and do a few instances (which got me to 34) then farmed in 1k Needles for 2 hours, again with no luck. Took another break for some instances (which got me to 35), returned to the tower and tried again for an hour without any luck. Gave up temporarily to go out with my friend, and when i logged back on the next day, it dropped off the first voidcaller I killed. So i spent a total of approximately 6 hours farming before it finally dropped. Quite possibly would've dropped sooner if I stayed in the tower.

Also, I found the tower more suited to my liking for a number of reasons:
-Almost everyone in there has a chance of dropping the pattern (theres a named guy at the top that obviously doesn't)
-You don't have friendlies questing in the area you're trying to farm (1k Needles has a couple quests on the darkcloud pinnacle for horde)
-Most alliance players tend to abandon the Tower of Althalaxx quest chain after completing a few quests in it so its highly unlikely that you will get ganked as horde

If you get mobbed at the top, its easier to keep one voidwalker banished and another feared with dots on him, or a voidcaller feared if theres only one voidwalker left. I died a couple times at 33 in the tower, but had my soul stored so i managed just fine. Didn't die at all after a while, especially not after I leveled up.

The pattern dropped, in Thousand Needles from a random Grimtotem, while doing the Grimtotem Spying quest. It's just to bad that I have already leveled my lock and paid to get this robe. I spent countless hours trying to get it to drop in Duskwood, to no avail.

I went to the Tower of Althalaxx in Darkshore, and by the time I got to the top the pattern for Robes of Arcana had dropped, took me about 10min.

This is quite possible the MOST irritating pattern to farm. I got even more frustrated when this dropped and was still left pattern-less.

I guess I got lucky I only farmed for an hour in the Tower of Althalaxx and bang got it! I used my LVL 43 Shaman, what a good little Alt! LOL

I got really lucky and only farmed the Geomancers in Thousand Needles for about 30 minutes. I just made the rounds from mesa to mesa until I got it - I don't think I even made it to all of the mesas. I looted some silk and this pattern, which are pretty nice gloves for the level. The mobs were pretty easy to kill at level 32 with my imp helping and I got exp for all of them.

I normally just buy things like this because the tedium of farming kills me, but the pattern was going for 700g on my server. Well worth my time to farm it!

Just got the drop on my fifth Voidcaller. Must be extremely lucky as I see people spamming trade for this all the time with no responses. And with a 1.4% drop rate, there goes my one good roll for ICC all week.

I grinded grimtotems with my lv26 for bout half hour, got bored, did instances. Tried again at lv28, got bored, did some instances. At lv30 I tried grinding dark strand voicallers, got bored,died a couple times , did some instances. Decided Id had enough so I checked the AH, nothing, did some instances.... Then last night at half past two, just before I was gonna go bed I found it on AH for 80s, had a load of mead to celebrate, /y w00t and entered random dungeon. still drunk...
The moral of the story is gives up, there's alot of chance you'll be pleasantly suprised XD

Got mine in about the same ammount of time as everyone else - however I did ym farming in Duskwood for a few reasons. First of all there is a ton of ore (tin copper and some iron) and in addition to my pattern i also got about 8 stacks of ore to sell. Same is true for the herbs. Briarthorn swifthistle and more freebies. But the true and real beauty of Duskwood - the thing that in my opinion erally makes it hands down the best - is that there is a chest that spawns at both camp sites, and one that spawns inside the ogre camp you run thru every lap - these chest often contain nothing, but have a pretty decent chance at Blue BoEs as well as gems and leather and cloth which all sell for good money.

TL;DR - Duskwood is the only place to farm this that has a chest every 3mins, tons of ore and herbs and the same average farm time for pattern - you win in like 4 ways if you go duskwood - not to mention the real beauty that even if the pattern is stubborn and never drops your time isnt wasted as you still have lots of other things you gained from your time.

Does this pattern still drop post cata? cause I've been farming the grimtotems in TN for about 5 hours total with no results, but maybe I'm just unlucky, however it would be nice to have the confirmation that the pattern still drops

I'm a bit confused right now as there are two types of Geomancer on Wowhead with different IDs. The other is Geomante Totem Truce . And it doesn't have the pattern in the loot table. Also its spawn points seem to be correct, when Grimtotem Geomancer 's are not.
So can anyone confirm that the pattern still drops?

Edit: Ah, here we are: Wowhead now confirms that recipe doesn't drop any more.

The item is not currently available because the zones where it previously dropped - Darkshore, Duskwood, and Thousand Needles - have been redesigned due to the Cataclysm, and the mobs they dropped from are no longer in-game. Though this pattern may be re-introduced in the future, it can currently only be gained by purchasing it from other players who received it before the Cataclysm.

Edit: What? Got voted down? It's true! 2nd time I died, it brought me a bit closer... but annoyingly, 5min of walking I passed by the spirit in ashenvale I believe it was, which was closer and I've been resurrected at before. Is it a bug? Shouldn't it be resurrecting to the nearest graveyard? I seem to be getting resurrected in random, far away, places.

Thousand Needles, up high on the cliffs/bridges at approximately 38:28 using my Hunter, so, will have to mail it to my Warlock for tailoring. :)

Since too many idiots aren't doing their homework, I'll paste the comment I made on the ROBE here on the RECIPE page:

Hordies, if you're looking at these for Transmogging, DON'T BUY THESE. Period. You're just getting scammed.

You have no less than 2 separate low-level quests that give you identical robes:
Robe of Shame
and
Charged Robes

And, while they're a good looking robe, It's a tough x-mog as there's only 3 pieces to the "official" set
(robe, shoulders, and belt, and even that's not entirely official). You're on your own to figure out the rest of the "set".

/sigh...there's SO many goobers out there who think that, because the recipe isn't available anymore, that the robe itself is so UBER valuable. It's a nice robe for a low-level caster, but that's ALL it is now.
The RECIPE is the only thing worth any money at this point, NOT THE ROBE THAT IT MAKES.

I throw one or two on the AH every once in a while for nostalgia reasons, mostly for those players who played locks back in the day and remember the quest chain (my tailor is a lock, I farmed the recipe back then to do the quest chain since I couldn't afford the AH). I'm always surprised how many ppl don't do their homework on this one, they just see that the recipe isn't around any more and think "everyone's going to come crawling to me to get this", and then try and charge ridiculous amounts of gold for the robe after they buy mine.
Seriously? You're going to try and outsell the guy who makes them? :-) Whatever.

Look, the recipe's only been gone since Cata, and it's been around since Vanilla. If you really want one, and don't want to spend the 2 or 3 whole minutes to get one of the quest reward copies, get the mats and spam Trade in Org or Stormwind, there's plenty of completionist Tailors who have the recipe.

While this recipe has now been removed from the game, don't splurge to buy this from the AH if you see someone who still has it!

With 8.1.5, you can now buy Modello: Vesti Arcane from Commerciante Senza Tempo, which teaches the same recipe!

The new version costs only 75 Raso del Mare Profondo Ricamato.
The vendor takes quite a bit of effort to find, however. You must first craft the BFA Tailoring Tool of the Trade, Filo Sincronico, find one of the many time rifts across Zandalar/Kul Tiras, and then it only has a chance to appear for a brief 1-2 minute window, when you close one.

She also sells a handful of other removed Tailoring recipes for a similar price as well.
