The Rusty Chest actually drops from the slimes when killed, however its a separate loot (thus hard to find unless you read here) :P

It dropped off a level 21 Rotting Slime just south of the road into the Warsong Labor Camp. I'm posting a screen shot too. I never would've thought to look for it on one of those since they're such low levels.

Maybe it's not really good explained.

Loads of Rotting Slime creatures walk at the left side of the road to the barrens. When you're lucky, one of the first ten creatures you kill contains a chest. In that chest is the item you need.

I read your comments and thought like aah yea gotta kill the slimes.. but didnt find the box.. or it wasnt there.. Prob was.. you have to drag a slime to the coordinates and kill him there.. then his corpse melts on a chest.

i got it from after about 10-15mins of killing slimes. i only saw the chest drop the once, but it may have dropped before and i just didnt realise. the iron pommel dropped off this chest, along with 2 grey name items.

the highest concentration of Rotting Slimes (lvl 22) can be found at 71,74 when discovering the Dor'Danil Barrow. Found the box after 3 kills, containing the Iron Pommel for Raene's Cleansing.

Tbh, this drop looks as though it was made to confuse the hell outta Wowhead and sites basing on the same principles of data gathering... -.-

Got the chest my first slime. 100% confirmed it's only obtained via the chest, which is dropped by a slime, but the chest appears above the slimes body.

I was running to the barrows to do another quest when I accidentally aggro'd a slime. I killed the slime, and a chest appeared. I thought it wasn't a big deal, because I've killed slimes before that drop a chest like it. I open it up, and there's the quest item! ^-^ Nice little perk.

So, I suppose I was extremely lucky! :)

Yeah just to clarify ; it does NOT appear in the loot you get from the slimes (lots of grey slime related trash) ; it is a SEPARATE OBJECT!

As per screenshot - It has a cog that you have to click. Its as though killing slimes spawns a chest when they die.

It droped for me from the first rooting slime killed.
And yes, there was no chest.

For me it just dropped from a chest just like usual. There is also no tracker on the slimes that indicates the pommel might drop from them.

I got the iron pommel in Dor'Danil Den area after killing only 3 rotting slimes

I really expected this to be in the Forsaken Camp near the Den, since they were the one that killed the Druids sleeping there. While I was planning my attack on the camp, a slime agro'd me, and I got the chest.

Chest for me as well, not from the slime itself. That's also the reason why even the new tooltips don't show you have to kill the slimes for the quest.

This quest is actually quite easy to figure on your own, if you actually read the journal provided to you. It clearly specifies that you need to kill the slimes inhabiting the area.
